Join us on an unforgettable 9-day offroad and overland expedition through the rugged terrain of Oregon's Backcountry Discovery Route (OBDR). In this video, we document the hard times, challenges, and triumphs we encountered on our adrenaline-fueled journey.
This was a BEAST of a video to film and edit, but I think we ended up with a great second episode of the Powerstop Trail Series!
I hope this inspires you to call your adventure buddies and plan your next big trip.

If I could ask for one thing, turn down the music, love engines, loves tires, don't care for music in outdoor videos. • For the bumper that broke, it was mentioned that the bolts were welded on, tuning them into studs. It is possible that is the root cause of the issue. Many bolts do come with a heat treatment to give them their grade (strength) and welding temps will destroy almost every heat treat, reducing the strength of the bolt to almost nothing. (Grade 1)

  • Back in the 60's when I was a lot younger, my folks belonged to what was back then, the Rough Riders Jeep club. We didn't take 10 day trips cuz no one back then could afford to take 10 days off of work. So we'd go out for three or sometimes 4 days at a time. We went in some pretty knarly places so watching your videos brought back some long forgotten memories. We have a Polaris RZR now and it goes thru terrain like what you guys went thru waaay easier. But of course we can't carry all the stuff you guys carry so we just camp with our 5th wheel camper and just go out for a day at a time. But at least we're still getting out. I'm 73 now and even though I had a double heart attack last year, i'm still going to keep going out and enjoying our beautiful mountains here in Montana.

    • @@MuddyBeards4X4 My first vehicle was a 88 S10 Blazer, that I still have and it could use some updating. Still on IFS but with 4" suspension lift and 2" body lift on 33s. That's why the S10 isn't top of the list. Everything that I would do to it, I probably already want to do to the Blazer. Top of the list is a first gen Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Seems like a super solid platform and the front suspension is shared with the Ranger, so there is support there and I've always wanted some long travel. I have a build all planned out, I just don't have room and can't decide if that money would be better spent on my 97 Powerstroke. A long travel TTB kit is calling my name. There's just too many options! 😂

  • A friend ran across this video and emailed me about it. Epic! I was actually attempting to do a solo drive of ORBDR section 5 the same day you were doing that section. Luck had me run across you guys twice on your trip. Both times, I was turning around because of the depth of snow I was seeing. My vehicle was a white F350 superduty. Now that I see what you guys encountered, I think I made the right decision. Maybe someday I will have the skills and experience to accomplish what you all did. That your suburban made it, tells me I am the limiting factor, not my vehicle! Glad you guys ultimately were successful and congrats on overcoming all the natural and mechanical obstacles that occurred during your trip. Best of luck on your next adventure! Hope to see you on the trails again some day!

  • Awesome video! Thanks for putting your message out there about being a good steward to the land. I used to wheel in AZ....("phoenix area").... There was a man made fire that spread over countless acres and toasted everything. Everything was destroyed for tens of miles in all directions. It was very sad to see. It went from a beautiful desert with saguaro cactus, to a burnt waste land.

  • Great video and a great trip. I noticed no real snorkels for the dust management as I know most people don’t think they need one up until they do a trip like yours with multiple people on dusty roads. Definitely helps with filter life and sadly a mod that most people like to make fun of while not understanding what they do. Wish yah luck on the onX off-road build, great choice of rig.

  • This was an awesome video! You guys really fought hard for this one! I used to live in the Pacific Northwest for 10 years. I had to move away to the Midwest. I miss the PNW every day. Such amazing country. How do you find friends like these to adventure with? No one I know is even remotely interested in these kinds of trips, and I’m the only person I know who even has a Jeep! Needless to say everything I do is solo, which severely limits where I go.

  • I've got a SAS 2000 Denali that has a 4L60. I rarely run in 4th gear unless I'm on really flat ground because of the transmission shifting between 4th & 3rd along with the torque converter locking/unlocking in 4th. I' built the truck about 9 years ago and have put roughly 50,000 miles on it with no tranny issues (knock on wood). I hope he gets his tranny issues lined out...love that big square body.

  • The way overlanders drive over stuff is so badass, like the way press the gas pedal and steer so hard. Nobody else can drive like they do, not even grandma can sit in their SUV all day.

  • Such a cool video! I was born and raised in Oregon and have been all over that state, it’s such a unique state cause it has every terrain, land feature, and scenery you can think of. The deserts of Oregon is by far my favorite place. I used to live in Fort Rock Oregon which is just north west of Christmas valley about 35 miles and that is by far the coolest place I’ve ever lived. So many trails out there and miles and miles of nothingness. When you guys got to CV I got a huge smile on my face and was so thrilled you got to check out that area. This is the first video of yours I’ve watched and look forward to the next! I recently bought a 2014 jku I’m building and cannot wait to take it on some trails soon. Thanks for sharing this awesome adventure, safe travels always, and keep the shiny side up!💪

  • My brother and I have done the Arizona and Colorado BDRs along with four of our friends. We had my Jeep YJ, with our home built off road trailer, a Sprinter Sportsmobile , and my brother and 3 other friends on dual-sport bikes. I wish I could post pictures in this comment section, but let’s just say that the trips were epic. And yes the Sportsmobile made it the whole way on both trips. Ophir pass was the beginning of some of the most clenching shelf roads I have been on, but some of the trails were a lot tougher. Thanks for sharing this Nate . That was awesome.

  • Fun part of snow wheeling in those conditions - if someone had followed your track the next day they would have said "what did they struggle with?" break the crust, the snow melts below very, very quickly.... fun stuff, can't believe how much of that route I've run at various points of my life (used to live near Portland)
