In this video I restored an very old Charcoal Iron from Russia. My friend Sergei sent it to me for restoration, спасибо большое сергей! The charcoal iron was abandoned and in a bad condition. It was super rusty, all parts had play and the handle wasn´t original. Time to do a restoration on this old rusty iron! I started by removing the non original parts. After disassembling i sandblasted all the rusty parts, steel wooled them, cold blued them and gave them an oil bath fur curing. I made a new wooden handle and some new hollow tip rivets and hollow tip shafts for reassembling. The final test shows - the iron works very well and is a pretty cool piece.

1930´s Charcoal Iron | Restoration
This is an incredible job! You gave a second life to this museum piece! It turned out very nice, the handle and rivets look perfect! Thank you very much for such work! This is really interesting content, the result exceeded all my expectations!)
Hey bro, iam glad you enjoyed seeing your iron getting restored! Thank you so much for this piece - I think we will do more stuff together 🙂

Thank you friend. Excellent video. I'm already your subscriber.
This was an absolute joy to watch!! Not only did you make a perfect job on the restoration, you absolutely nailed it with the filming and editing. Talking about nailing stuff, I loved your hollow style rivets. Very good job my friend!
Hearing this from you is a real honor man! Thanks for your words and your support bro!
I am very glad that you liked it!) Thanks for the comment!) I hope we will see the restoration of the jack soon)
OMG Mr Patina, to get such a complement as this you are going to make the other restorers jealous, but really, it's a wonderful job.
Thanks! 🙂

Refreshing to see someone actually RESTORE a piece instead of just grinding the hell out of it

One of the things I personally enjoy about restoration videos is metal work on the lathe, making all the rivets and so on. I loved this video but it would have been so great to see all the work that went into the rivets, nails etc. It is immensely satisfying to see those things turned on a lathe. 😊
Consider getting a filter to go between your camera lens and the arc when welding. You can definitely damage the sensor without something to block at least the high intensity UV.
Hey, thanks for the hint! 🙂
Uuuuuuuuh very nice my friend. I really enjoyed the final tolerances. High quality job, but that's what I know you for. Did I really notice a new sandblasting cabin? You deserve it.
Thanks man, iam really glad you like it! Yep, new cabin. If you’re in need, give me a call 🙂✌️
@@misterpatina you know I will show up unexpectedly and faster than you think
It scares me, but ok. 😄
I watched this video today morning and later went to Bulgakov's museum flat in Moscow, with my friends to show them. And I saw there the same iron. That's not a coincidence!
Hey man, that’s pretty crazy! I hope my iron was close to the museum piece 🙂
@@misterpatina The museum piece is there mainly to make the atmosphere of the pre WWII everyday life, plus to show people what was used then, just like the other stuff there, so it's a bit rusty and dusty. It's obvious that it wasn't used for a long time, yours is closer to how they were brand new but a lot cleaner and nice-looking than it has ever been :) I guess you can say it's a museum quality if you want to imagine what it was like to have it new. There are two ways I see on the internet: some people restore things and make them as pretty as they've never ever been before even brand new, some are trying to make vintage looking things from brand new ones, trying to make them look as if they were heavily used. No one is making rusty things restored, so they function at their best but then vintage them a bit, so they don't look brand new, instead they look like they were used in the everyday life for some time but weren't forgotten, were taken care of. They have some obvious signs of continuous and recent (!) usage but no signs of rust and crumble as if they weren't used for a long time. I don't know how to explain this idea better :)
Wonderful work) To turn scrap metal into such a beautiful thing, you definitely need the talent that the author has) I like such transformations) I tried it myself recently, who is interested to take a look

Классная реставрация!!!!

Beauty charcoal iron. When the restorations are of old objects, the results are much better. Thank you for recovering and giving them a new life. You get better at your jobs as time goes by.

Hey, I'm a 66 yo man...For rise the temp in those antiques (my dad used to iron very well) you have to swing with the extended arm to put air in the charcoal!! A marvelous restoration job ...well done!! I enjoy your videos..Greetings from Chile!

As a collector of Vintage Irons I'm fell in love with this restoration. Hands down the best out there.

Thanks a lot for this video! Especially for the test :) Greetinngs from Russia!
I've learnt a lot from you. One tip I learnt from others though, when building up a piece with the arc welder, back the work with copper. It doesn't melt and doesn't stick.
It's Mr patinas world we just live in it!! 🤘🤘
It just reminds me to my grandmother when she did ironing with an iron like this. However, she used charcoal to heat it. The smell is good. Thank you, Mister Patina, you did a great restoration to this antique stuff.
Thank you so much Djadja!
Top notch restoration on this 1934 Russian Charcoal Iron !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I'm very glad you decided to leave this one unsanded, the end result looks sweet! I know cats don't usually like baths, but it looks like Aurora really is in need of one 😆

Oh, I've already seen what the below prompted and gave a full transcript.
Nice job and enjoyable to watch. If I can make a suggestion; if you’re going for the antique look the rivets and lever are new and shiny. Perhaps some sort of patina on them could have be applied to also give them an aged look?
Always look forward to new videos. Thank you.

That latch click and fitment between top & bottom parts is so satisfying! Good work
Thanks Brian, yeah, the „click“ turned out awesome 🙂
What a masterpiece. With every video, your talents shine through in so many different ways. Looking at this iron, I can truly imagine people using it without having to worry about having to reheat it without electricity. You gave this iron a second life after almost 100 years. You're the best. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey man, thank you so much! What you said means a lot to me. Thank you, really, very much! :-)
Simply outstanding restoration

Wow that is beautiful restoration
I love your work. I only wish I had the time and tools to do some of the more advanced restores that you do. I only have one recommendation for improvement. Unless it's really something complicated, the sandblasting seems to eat up a lot of time that could be spent doing all the cool things you do! I also love your sense of humor.
Great job on bring that beauty back to life. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching Randy!
Nice work, I always thought that they used Hot water in them. But then I saw the holes, to let the coals breath. Great video Love from Scotland 😁👍

Mostly welcome Mario!
Muy buena restauración se usaban en mi niñez por los campesinos colombianos que vivían y trabajaban en fincas cafeteras. También la usaba una tía que era maestra rural. Ah tiempos aquellos!!!!.
Just a note from the lady side. That's a "swing iron". You put the coals in and swing the iron back and forth to make the coals glow hot. As long as you have coals, you don't have to "reheat" the iron. That's the reason for the "dents" at the face of the iron, so that the plate heats up faster.
You are professional 👏 👌 🙌
Thanks!
I like the textures and color scheme.
Yay. What a beautiful transformation. Nice work Mr. P. And I have to agree with MM about your filming & editing.
