Adam Savage Meets Master Chief's Spartan Armor From Halo!

Behold, the Master Chief! We check out a few of the costumes that FBFX adapted from the Halo games for the live action series. Adam chats with Project Manager Alex Dawes to learn how FBFX worked in collaboration with 343 Industries and executive producer Kiki Wolfkill to create the Master Chief and Spartan armors to fit actors and look as awesome as they do in-game. We also examine the intricate electronics systems FBFX designer Simon Lawrence engineers into each helmet--which Adam gets to try on!

    • @@watcherofwatchers Halo has always had one of the most toxic "fan"bases imaginable. It's fine not to like something for these people it is not enough to just have an opinion, they desperately need to control all public discourse about it. Because of that, you can barely find any kind of discussion about matters Halo - be it lore, mechanics, writing etc - without running into disparaging statements after a few lines. If I magically had the resources and talent to makes the next great Halo game, I would think twice before doing it, because I know there are millions of people who will inundate the whole project with hate regardless of quality.

    • @@Wonzling0815 To be fair, you could pretty much substitute any game or media title for "Halo" in your point. Online Fandoms across the board have been destroyed by the people you describe. It's a rare fandom, indeed, that hasn't been overrun by these toxic people.

      @watcherofwatchers@watcherofwatchers Жыл бұрын
    • @@watcherofwatchers This is not true. The halo fans aren't mad because the show isn't following the exact same story as the game. They're mad because the Halo show is just a generic sci-fi show with the name "halo" tacked onto it. Like the only good things about the show are the props and the action sequences. Everything else is just garbage. To reiterate, they aren't mad because the show isn't following the game 1-1, but are mad because the halo lore and the entire halo universe is so well built and amazing and there's so much worldbuilding, you can do so much with it! But the show writers absolutely threw all that out of the window and went with some generic story, like why even? They failed to adapt the source material properly. I could write a whole wall of text about why the show is bad when you're an actual halo fan but I'd rather not and I'd let you read the books and play the games yourself. This show just doesn't capture the spirit of Halo, and don't even get me started on Master Chief.

    • There comes a point where it is no longer cost effective to improve props for actors to wear on set. Everything has to be made in multiples and be largely interchangeable, because things break or go missing. There are time constraints too. So there's a fine balance between detail levels, practicality for actors and how much time and money spent getting things "good enough", as opposed to "nearly perfect". It would be great to make the suits from titanium alloy, carbon fibre and have liquid cooling... but 3D printed plastic with battery operated fans is cheaper and easier.

But the fact that it comes in hundreds of pieces, the undersuit is basically a suit by itself, it's heavy. From knowing so much about the Halo suit in lore, not a lot about the construction was surprising to me.

Yet another franchise being worn like a skin-suit by hack writers and showrunners who have no interest in what made it a bankable franchise in the first place, nor the confidence in their ability to separately sell their own terrible stories without hijacking something else to do it. The extreme amazing talent of the prop and suit makers is wasted on shows like this. They've done some brilliant work on these suits and have been utterly failed by the writers.
