  • You're a Legend. You could be rich right now like all these other reviewers who praise every product they get sent to and then pretend like they are not paid by these companies , which is complete bs. But people obviously like to get lied to... You're sacrificing so much in order to stay true. You really are one of a kind in this world and I appreciate every second of your creations.

    • Yeah, Meze certainly bought all reviewers out there (in and outside of youtube) *facepalm*. I'm glad this channel exists tho because He's showing it's super hard to find heatsets that are neutral. But did I learn a lot on the product itself ? Nope. There is a reason the majority of ppl like this headset. Great sound and design.

    • The HD600 is more neutral. Both Elex and particularly the 109 are a bit more bassy. 109 is a bit "v shape". Elex is the 'clearest' of the three.

  • Cool and honest review. I bought headphones and Meze 109 pro and Topping DX3 Pro+ about a week ago. My ears are used to cheap sound, the best I had was the Sennheiser Momentum M3 and I was surprised by the sound, and I constantly lacked bass in the Meze. And you say that there are many of them, and I understand that my brain is just used to it and the beauty is not in the power of the bass, but in the details. As for the first headphones in the more expensive segment, they are good.

  • I own all three of these headphones and enjoy them all. I'm enjoying your video this morning while wearing the 109 Pro. I don't personally lean toward a particular target, I just want for music to sound GOOD. Before getting into headphones I used to listen to music on traditional hi-fi gear and listened to a big range of loudspeakers by KEF, JBL, Polk Audio, Yamaha, and right on down the line. None of them sounded alike but it didn't really matter to me if they didn't sound horrible. And the 109 doesn't sound horrible. Sure it's boosted in some frequencies but I find them FUN. And they are comfortable on my head. And I find that every single pair of headphones that I own sounds different if I change how and where I place them on my melon. All of these do, so do my Dan Clark Aeon Open, and my Audeze LCD-2 and LCD-X and my Sundara. To each his/her own I always say. And with the 109 Pro atop my gourd I'm not concerned about imminent driver failure so much as I am with the ELEX. Thanks for the review Oluv, I really enjoy your use of Binaural recordings!

Since couple of weeks I listened various videos, all say different. Only common thing Sennheiser 600 series a good start. I listened M99 Classics with Naim Amp in showroom and didnt like much. I listen various of musics soundtracks,pop, rock, our folk music. I want smooth and true response entire freqeuncy band not fatiguing overall in my budget . Around 1000 dollar budget, what is your opinion?

      @teknolojigundemi@teknolojigundemi10 ай бұрын
    • @@teknolojigundemi For me it all began with the HD600 and I love that headphone to this day. I have sold off a few pairs over the years but will keep the Sennheiser HD600. That said, the 660S2 doesn't sound like the 600, it's more lively. It's FUN. It's got a bump in the bottom and an elevated top end that re-awakes my 62 year old ears. I find them to be a terrific headphone, especially if you can land an open box pair which presents as brand new and offers full warranty. A $1000 budget gives you a number of choices, most of which I haven't heard. My last three purchases, the 660S2, the Meze 109 Pro and the Mark Levinson 5909 are keepers all and certainly are within that range. You can score open box deals on anything and save. The 109 Pro comes in a bit more expensive than the 660S2 with the 5909 right at a grand. My understanding of the Meze 99 series is that it's a bass lovers dream but that's not my personal thing. I like a DEEP, tight, well controlled bass kick that I can feel without getting a sense of it being so overpowering that it's likely to rattle my bumpers off. The 109 Pro fits that description, I think. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I find similarities between the 600, Elex, 109 Pro but the 600 does have that veil of which I'm not hearing on the 660S2. A budget of $1000 gets you pretty close to an open box S2 AND open box 109 Pro if you're patient (or lucky enough to locate at once). Then again, there are just so many choices that in the end you're going to have to decide what sounds best to your own ears. I wish I could be more helpful. Best of luck to you on your journey and keep listening!

      @MP_pov@MP_pov Жыл бұрын
    • @@MP_pov The HD 600 is a great, great headphone, but for people looking specifically for a wider soundstage, they are not satifactory. Now this might be a bit controversial, but maybe try a Dt1990 pro? Beyer has it more or less allways as B-stock for around 400 and used they gor for even less. The ..hum...infamous so called "Beyer peak" at 8k can be easily handled with some additional AKG K-240 Foam inlays, IF it is found to be troublesome. I'd recommend this one, because i would say, that there is nothing quite like it at around 400 (dont get it for the original price though-overpriced imo). Above average soundstage with a ..hum..ever so slightly v-shape (i guess). Other then that the AKG 712 pro comes to mind in that price region. Also a VERY pleasant pair for soundstage seakers. The biggest plus buying from companies like beyer, AKG or Sennheiser is, that you will A. allways get spare parts for a B. somewhat reasonable price. Unlike the HD58x you mentioned, which I also own (also: NOT a wide soundstage and the imaging is meh. But yeah, pleasant describes it well) . You need new pads? Yeah, here you go- 65$ on Drop (IF available) plus shipping. thats basically 50% of what i paid for the entire headphone. I tried to use regular senni pads - they do NOT fit quite right due to that rim, which goes into the notch around the cups, which is deeper then on the Drops. with the mentioned companies a problem like that will not occure. Anyway, good luck with your search o/ edith says, that, if you are willing to actually go for a somewhat "exotic" pair, you could try the new Moondrop Venus, which offer a very nice value and a solid entry in the world of planars.

    @gwapster13@gwapster13 Жыл бұрын
    • True. I also prefer different tunings according to the way I'm feeling or the type of music i'm listening, etc. so sometimes a bit of coloration is nice. It can also be useful when one gets older and earing loss begins to become a problem. (though it also depends on the recording)

Therefore I mostly use decently recorded reference tracks that I know well to judge the final sound, although the very first I always play when I try a new device is pink noise. One of my Patrons created a surround kind of pink noise which sounds way more natural than usual uncorrelated pink noise. As you might remember, I use the HD58x, which you recommanded a few years ago as a nobrainer. In your comparism it sounded not very different compared to the HD600. I'm still happy with it and I drive it with my smartphone, which is no problem. If you could compare the equalized HD600 to the unequalized HD58x also, I would be very happy. But as I know that the unequalized HD58x sounds not very different to the unequalized HD600, maybe a little bit warmer, it's not basically neccessary. Thank you for this interesting comparism.

  • I think almost any headphone with a good EQ sounds better than any other without any EQ so it seems rather obvious. The question is whether an EQ of similar granularity would make the 109 sound meaningfully better than the HD600. I would expect there to be an improvement in the bass at the very least. That said neutrality is the best goal with coloration often being a compromise when neutral isn't attainable.

    @hartyewh1@hartyewh1 Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah there is no automatic tool to compensate for every ear canal yet that works reliably. The only thing that works is manual laboring. So basically it's helpful if the company creates simply flat headphones without Resonancy peaks. Like the sennheiser hd600 for example to give a nice starting point

      @cuerex8580@cuerex8580 Жыл бұрын
    • The treble response of the Meze is full of peaks which are hard to control precisely thus my answer would be: no. Best would be a properly tuned IEM as their overall response is way smoother to begin with but you need to recreate the pinna effect properly and compensate for the individual ear canal resonance, then you would benefit from a way cleaner sound. The grainyness or my recording results of strong averaging and smoothing and simply loss of data with every recording step, thus will never represent reality by 100% but I tried to get as close as possible

      @oluvsgadgets@oluvsgadgets Жыл бұрын
    • I use EQ not only for different headphones but for different recordings too. I use APO with 4 presets for hd600 and 4 for dt990pro. I change the presets depending on what I am listening to at the moment. Some recordings are just not recorded/mixed/mastered as they should (especially when recorded live). Over the years I learned to quickly apply the correct preset to compensate - because there are only 4 its not always 100% perfect compensation but it starts to sound acceptable to a point where using more presets would introduce more complication than benefit.

BTW I never thought that sennheiser hd600 can have such accurate treble, I thought all headphones have peaky jagged treble and hd600 is not exception. That's why I dont use headphones anymore only IEM's, I tried to equalize my superlux hd681 using hell of a lot filters like I do with IEM's but it works only until you wear them on your head. I mean you can eq them to close to perfect treble (some very narrow regions at 10.7-11.2 kHz still remain silent probably because of waves cancel each other) - but mostly treble is good - but the moment you put the off and went to drink tea or anything - that's it, you lost your perfect treble, when you put headphones on, you cant do it exactly the same spot and treble becomes shifted again. Even if I try to put them centered and equalize - this doesnt work and btw superlux hd 681 have the same kind of design as meze 109 - soft, not rigid headband.

Overall it's not horrible, compared to other stuff I've heard. It's interesting that you chose the hd600 over the 650 or 58x, I preferred those as the 600 has basically no bass to begin with. Though you didn't like the Sundara, it's what I use, the treble is a bit hot but otherwise it's more or less balanced for the rest of the response. It sounds much like the AMT-1 speakers a friend had. The mids are lowered compared to the hd600 which is a drawback.. I kind of hate messing with EQ since I use headphones on all sorts of devices. Often, it just made it worse because of wrong targets.
