I swear, if Linus wasn't the owner of LTT, he'd be asked to stay in another room during these unboxings and tests. He'd be assigned to holding the script but only if it's printed on paper and not on a tablet or any device that costs more than $10.
He'd probably also never be trusted to give opinions on high end stuff like the microled screen he looked at if he's that amazed by a "cheap" projector on a white wall despite having very high end OLED stuff around him everywhere.

@@anepicotter4595 this is not one of the best projectors on the market. It's only around 3000:1 contrast. That's poor and is around the same contrast as an $800 projector. In practice you won't care about black levels too much because epson dynamic contrast is really good
1:56 the happiness on linus' face just before dropping it just shows how much he loves new tech and how much eager he is for this theatre room.
I know that this was basically the whole point of this series and the home as a whole for Linus, but man, his house really is going to be the absolute dream home for tech nerds everywhere.
Reminds me of when I was an apprentice electrician for an electrical construction company years ago. Anytime there wasn't enough work for everybody, the boss would send the extra guys to work on his house. He wanted to be able to pay everyone for full time, even when business was slow. He was a good guy. His house was big, but by no means a mansion. Maybe 3,500 - 5,000 square feet. I think he spent a lot of time just thinking up shit for us to do to his house. He had 3 big electrical panels, plus a backup panel for his backup generator. He built a shed in the backyard with a 200 Amp service panel in it (200A service is what most new single family homes have here in the US). The shed had an overhead garage door. His front hallway had a chandelier with a motor to lower it to the ground for cleaning. The attic had lights and power receptacles throughout the whole thing. He had ethernet and HDMI cables going to each room. Speaker systems throughout the house. Camera system. He had outdoor storage sheds with water-tight lighting and power receptacles. Outdoor ground lights going along paths around the whole house. Undercabinet lighting everywhere. Intercom systems. Central vacuum. It was insane.
@@UserNameAnonymous That's amazing lol
Some 20 years ago I dreamt on playing Quake 3 Arena on a projector, now that dream is a feasible reality tbh 👌 😳 😊

This is what I put in our theatre room as well. I painted the whole room with “Black 3” paint, which was more expensive than I thought, and put up a 130” screen. I absolutely love it. I game on it all the time. We also bought 6 big, comfy theatre chairs(full recliner). The room has 2.1 hdmi splitter, my 4k movie/tv collection has been ripped, and now I have one project left, and that’s making everything on my media pc accessible by an android tablet (which isn’t a huge job, just haven’t gotten to it yet, the room is new).
Nice work mate. Sounds like a dream setup. Home theatre is sometimes an addiction, but when you hit that setup that will last you the next 4 years, it feels golden.
The fact that they're just gaming together and Linus goes "did you just fart?" is part of why I love whenever they're together in a video like this! Just a good dynamic

By this point in Linus’s career, you’d think he wouldn’t get so giddy over a $5,000 projector. He’s crossed paths with so much high end equipment that a projector doesn’t seem like it would be very exciting.

Incredible editing on this one. It’s easy to forget the talent off screen when enjoying the content on 🙌
From someone who has experience with projectors: use a GREY high contrast screen! It will take off some brightness (this projector has enough) but highly improve black levels and contrast in rooms that are not 100 % blacked out.
That's brilliant.
Just be sure to try a sample to check for laser speckle. Not sure if the Epson's are as susceptible as the LG's are.
This man know's his shit. Listen. All white would be horrible for this room unless you completely blacked it out and painted walls vanta black
Also it really helps if screen "floats" few feet in front of the wall
I had positive Experiences with Elitescreens and VNX.
I'm glad he dropped it BEFORE telling us the price. My heart would have dropped if I knew it was worth that much
is it sad to think he's going to drop this isn't he? This time it happened before i even got the words out of my mouth... Still i would be crapping myself for a month if dropped this.
I knew it's price going in and my first thought was ".... I can't believe he ALREADY broke it. "
But for a projector like that it's actually really cheap. JVC DLA-NZ9 8K is of course better, but it's $26k. Dropping that would feel bad.
it was much cheaper than I expected
All I want in life is an actually decent projector for under $200

If you paint the projector wall white and all the other walls in Vantablack, you should have the best light control, as even the reflective light from the projector itself would be absorbed by the Vantablack. Just a thought :D
Just be ready for the brightness to drop, and the colour to change over time. We've got Epson laser projectors at work, and it's quite noticeable - especially if you've got a new one next to it to compare to.
Which models? And what kind of usage? And is it running at max brightness? Something isn't right if they're newer. You should be getting 10-15 thousand hours with maybe a 20-25% brightness drop. It's then supposed to drop off more quickly as it hits 20,000 hours. Something like 50% brightness at that point.
Fairly heavy use, probably not at max brightness (but I won't guarantee someone didn't set it up stupidly), and it's most noticeable with the oldest ones we have (probably EB-L1755UNL, unless those ones are an older model). It's mostly annoying because we have a pair side by side in a couple of rooms, which means that you can't necessarily just replace _one_ if it has a fault. Especially with the colour shifting over time.
Big difference between models though, although both laser with 3LCD there is a big difference in brightness (15000 vs 2700 lm) and application. Plus the L1755 has mad Color calibration functions built-in with camera assistance.
Gotta appreciate how much Jake knows about stuff. Love vids that he's in because he seems to know pretty much everything about anything he's working on lol

Also great value. A projector for 80" screen costs only a fraction of TV. And for those of us who lives on the cheap, just a normal white wall or normal screen will produce perfectly adequate quality well worth the tradeoff for the larger display.
It's not surprising at all when you have the need to share your screen with a room full of people.

Yup almost every house in Germany has those. So nice when you want to sleep in
@@smithj Blackout isn't good for sleeping. Your brain doesn't stop to produce melatonin in the morning if there's no daylight. Don't paint the entire room, 95% light reduction is really really dark
@@Tallnerdyguy Yea I just rewatched a video where someone painted a small box room in mousu black and its very sureal and dark. Jake's ribbing of Linus was great. You can really see their relationship and how much they care about each other.
You should paint the back wall with Mouso Black or Black 3.0 paint. I don't think you could do the whole room in it, for safety reasons with the little ones. But the back wall would absorb everything that that doesn't hit the screen. Maybe you could feather it a little at the top and sides.

Make sure your screen is a 2.35 full width of room you can always use a curtain to bring it down to 1.85. It looks good.
Pro tip if you want to blackout windows. Get some insulation sheeting. Its about 1cm thick comes in square or rectangle sections. Its normally down the isle for radiators (to but behind) or in the floor underlay section. It is basically a foam sheet covered in tinfoil. Perfect to reflect 100% of the light hitting it ;). Can cut it to exact shape you need and simply slot it in the window gap when needed.
Wow, that looks awesome! I have a 6yr old LCD projector in my play room / theater and it's my showcase when people come visit. I'd love to get a nice Ultra short throw projector next so there's no issue with "people shadows" and brighter since it's closer to the wall, but still waiting for my old one to go out. If you can have a dedicated room, projectors are the way to go IMO.
Yeah boi
I used to feel the same, I had projectors since the first 720p ones came out since that was the cheapest way to get large screen for the money. I bought one of these Epson FauxK projectors to replace my old infocus after the color wheel exploded. Sent it right back, it is just not sharp. The pixel shifting is a good idea in theory but its pretty obvious it is not real 4K. Ended up just buying a 75" Samsung flat panel, at this point with the price of flat panels I just cant see going back to projectors.
@@JerryBiehler laser is a whole different story though.

Yes! Apart from losing brightness, any kind of Keystone or zoom adjustment will also "lose" pixels or resolution. Jake is right set it up at the correct throw and it'll be perfect.
Exactly. If you are just throwing up a projector on a room(or outside) temporarily then all those features help get you a decent picture quick but for a dedicated theater room it would serve you well to do the math and find the correct spot. Ideally you want to never use the keystone adjustment options and a minimal amount of zoom to zero in the picture to the screen It’s also not just pixel loss or brightness loss. Keystone correction also requires image processing by the projector which means it increase input lag. Not a big deal for watching movies but if you are gaming on the projector is can be noticeable
All the Linus and Jake videos have been so much fun! Love this duo!

How is it always how to train your dragon? I could go through every monitor, laptop, tv, phone and projector review you guys have done and compile all the clips to make the full movie free to watch by this point HAHA
Just an educated guess but I think it's because of 2 reasons the first that the HDR and colors in the movie are probably done well and diverse making it a good benchmark and the second because like you said they always use that movie they can compare it how it looked on other devices and be able to see the difference it's the same with games it's always doom and tomb raider
Finally another new house update!
Always good seeing jake in videos, love his personality
You’re on your own there mate

its a little old but I have a Epson Pro L1505UH here at work, love their projectors.
Back in the early '00s I went back to school. We got in SO MUCH trouble for using the classroom projector for playing games. I never understood how that was going to damage it but it was fun well it lasted...
Got the dvd projector now but have not tried connecting the hdmi to it yet
“How are you sideways?” had me actually laughing out loud, and this is a tech video!
Linus is an absolute genius, getting his top of the line home electronics supplied for him by making videos of kitting out his house with stuff he doesn't even have to pay for and making money off the video. I would be surprised if he doesn't end up net positive on buying and renovating his house.
That's, a very basic technique among busineesmen. Nothing genius about it. Personal gain disguised as "company expense".
The amount of tech in his new house is “holy s@$t” level!! I would be in tech nerd heaven living in that house!!
I was looking at it too. Made me realize how poor I am watching this in my room. He lives in the same city as me and it's nice to see Linus thriving and living well.
You should paint the room with the least reflective/most light absorbing black paint you can get your hands on (the one used by the Action Lab guy). That would be amazing.
Can’t get enough of the new home content… keep it coming!
We need to see more of just these 2 guys only , love it !!
Big fan of projectors for movies. This joy looks to be ×1000! Very interesting.
I own a LS500 short throw from Epson and it is freakin awesome!
This new Epson really is pretty groundbreaking, the tech is fancy and has been around in the higher end enthusiast and commercial space for a while now, but the price point is where it shines. This is the first projector of its class, that truly encompasses everything (aside from 3D and tonemapping support, which is a shame on the latter but not a deal breaker) at a price point that challenges not only other projectors, specifically laser projectors and the ultra high end of the remaining lamp projector lineups, but also the elevated premium lineup of TVs. Projectors are never going to overtake TVs purely because it's an enthusiast product, you have to put a lot more time, effort and research into a projector comparative to a relatively simple TV market (it's not simple, but for the majority of consumers and premium purchasers, it's greatly simplified by what's on the shelf and what looks best at the time, unfortunately a lot of consumers just don't put much research into their purchases). But this might be the start of at least somewhat of an increased shift, or perhaps just a consolidation, of the existing Projector Market to better serve consumers. The downsides of a projector are starting the thin out, the primary reasons consumers don't buy into them is a mixture of complexity and price, Projectors today compared to 10 years ago on both fronts have greatly improved. Will be interesting to see where the market is in the next 10 years, especially as more of these market leading features become commonplace at genuinely affordable* prices (affordable for the enthusiast market, ofc these projectors will never be at a price point where the typical $500 TV purchaser will have use of them, there's just not a large enough economy of scale in the projector market to make that happen).
Would love to see part two once the room is done!
Best Segway ever and best Outro ever. From now on, you should game while doing all video endings IMO.
10:48 the movie is How to Train your Dragon 3 (2019)
7:52 I love how Jake is basically Linus's dad and you can clearly tell... Major " Are we there yet? / Can we get MacDonalds?" vibes here.
I did 3 tours in Iraq. I had a small projector with me every time. Where ever my bunk was always became movie night area. Having a projector was such a simple solution to portable entertainment. I am now a veteran and I still have a projector for our homes movie room. And yeah I have one above my bed so it shoots across to the far wall lol. I watch KZhead and movies and some Twitch stuff. Its great. Glad to see Linus also discovering projectors are now really great movie gaming experiences.
Curious on what your plan is for the walls & ceiling acoustic wise.
Micro led is amazing, but it's still quite a ways away from consumer grade. I'm a big fan of the potential of it ever arrives. I will say and element of scene matching ambient light is nice and reduces eye strain, but at the cost of reducing the contrast of your blacks in this case.
i love how Linus is the ceo but i always hear him asking his employees if he is allowed to do things now XD
