did the dutch maker just say we use ''ketchup'' on frikandel speciaal????? no you have to teach them that ketchup and curry are 2 different sauces and not letting them make the mistake of mistaking curry for ketchup i know this is a small detail and it won't ruin their lives.....but come on the ketchup and curry we (dutchies) know and grow up with taste so different...... i am not getting over this....
Yes Bram, Originally it was with ketchup. 30 years ago there was no curry in the Netherlands. Btw there is curry-ketchup. Mostly this is used for frikandel speciaal.
The curry on a frikadel speciaal is a spiced ketchup. Although I do think it's kinda dumb to not differentiate between them, their taste is nothing alike.

How does one not know the difference between an onion and a piece of garlic? AFTER smelling it!
i bet he has never cooked for himself (even though he seem to have eaten quite much...looking at him) i imagine him having to go with his mother, whom works in the Netherlands at the moment and still cooks all his food. i mean come on.... first, he can't tell the difference by sight and after that he cannot smell it's clearly not garlic............that means probably one thing (if we consider that he's not rich enough to order food everyday)

Garlic, onion, leek etc. All are part of the same plant family. And he apparently isn't educated enough or never uses the raw products.
Bram van Betuw i would like to let you know that i do cook for my self, and when i smelled it i didn’t get in hint of either garlic or onion. Not sure why, i just didnt smell anything. Yes i am american and dutch, and yes i am obese. Thank you for pointing it out. Have a nice day

Lijkt me iets dat vrij dicht bij de discodel in smaak light, maar i.p.v. discodip met siroop (beide suiker). Geen goede combi in mijn ogen 😂
Ik ook! Ik denk dat ik maar even naar de snackbar ga. Ik neem zelf de siroop wel mee, want dat zullen ze daar niet hebben, vrees ik.
En stel je nu een pannenkoek frikadel met stroop voor 😂

Who knows what a treat it might be.... By now you also have shops who try new flavors, frikandel with "disco-dip", or "knetterpop". Or the pizza, pancake, and "vlaai" with frikandel.

Nou ja goed de frikandel speciaal heeft een hoop verschillende versies in elk stadje. Ik ben de versie gewend met mayo, curry, sate en ui. {I mean...the frikandel speciaal has many different versions in every city. I'm used to the version with mayonnaise, curry, saute and onions.} Yes i just went ahead and translated that in english haha. Ngl, I'm better at my second language than i am at my first and i almost wrote "hope" instead of "hoop" 😂

How to prepare it properly: 1. Deep fry the frikandel so it is at least warm, then take it out of the deep fryer. 2. Get a knife and make a cut length wise, then put it back in to the deep fryer. 3. Cut the onion in little cubes of about 5mm thick on all sides, could vary depending on taste 4. Take the frikandel out of the deep fryer when done 5. Put in mayonaise and curry over the full length of the cut 6. Cover the sauce with a lot of onion Ready to be served after that.
You've to drown it in sauce tho

I totally agree with all of you. We also have "croquetas" (Spanish kroketten) which are made of meat and we don't know exactly what they're made of, but they're simply delicious. 😅

Frikandel speciaal is samen met een broodje kroket en een kop snert een van de weinige dingen waar je me s'nachts wakker voor kan maken.
Frikandel speciaal mag je mij ook wakker voor maken, maar zorg ervoor dat er meer zijn anders wordt ik chagrijnig. Ik kan niet leven op een frikandel

You missed a perfect chance to explain what “Hakkedelle” are, it’s the frikadel cut up in pieces of 4 Cm and then fried.
The basis is now a day mostly Processed Chicken some cow or Pork with spices and some water. Depends on the producer. In for the discussion about it:)

Ik word zooo naar van al die mensen die mosterd en siroop op de friekandel doen oooo en die vlagentjes stoooooooop
"waste meat, it's not advisable to eat it"... Actually it's all regulated and safe to eat meat. It's just the scraps you are left over with when making things "look better" for the stores. If anything the frikadel is very environmentally friendly because you eat those little scraps instead of just throwing them away.

The best way to try from the beginning natural ( no souse) ,frikadrlen are lekker special here like sausages in Germany and everywhere at the world,I eat clear way ,mash potato included and ketchup ,and mayonnaise, up for you

Depending where you are in the Netherlands they either use Curry or Ketchup,.. for people that can`t make ur their minds there`s also Curry/Ketchup But i think Curry is used the most. And i think the same this is happening to the tosti.

Not really fair. In time the frikandel speciaal must be occompanied with specifiying the ketchup or curry. So you would order a "frikandel speciaal curry" or a "frikandel speciaal ketchup" If you dont specify you will receive a frikandel speciaal ketchup, which is the moet regular one.

Frikadel (no ‘n’) is also eaten in South Africa Afrikaans community. It’s made with spicy sausage and mince meat, onion, tomato sauce, chutney and baked in an oven. So kind of based on Dutch Frikandel. No mayonnaise or mustard.

Is there even a word for frikandel in English? I always say fry candle cus that's what they look like but I honestly don't know if any other language even has a name for it because most countries don't even sell it. The only other country I've been where I was able to get it so far has been Germany where the fast-food places where serve it in hotdog style which was a brilliant idea btw ty for that Münster.

This is kinda hard, a frikandel speciaal is different in Southern parts (with curry). My girlfriend grew up in North-Holland and excepts ketchup instead of curry.
In the west big citys they eat it with ketchup and mayonaise. But in the east citys we eat it with curry. But it is not al the time this way
