The 2021 Mazda Mazda3 hatchback is now available with all-wheel drive and a turbo-charged 2.5-liter engine. Is this the Subaru WRX-replacement hot hatchback we've been waiting for? Ryan tests it's 0-60 (to a fault) and the hooning abilities of this compact on a snow-covered lakeside location to see just how far Mazda has come.

    • If you need lane keep assist in a car, then you definitely should not have a drivers license. I can't believe we are at a point in humanity where a driver can't keep a car straight within a lane on a highway. Like seriously WTF are you doing behind the wheel then?

      @GrayFox370@GrayFox3703 жыл бұрын
    • @@GrayFox370 I would agree for cars like Tesla, cause its just keeps going and that can be dangerous and drivers should always be 'driving'. Some manufacturers like Volkswagen have a 15 second only assistance that warns you to take the wheel. I think of it as a way to keep you a bit safe in case you took your eyes off the road for whatever reason or even starting dozing off.. To me that is ok. kzhead.info/sun/ldGLmpqqqoSgYJs/bejne.html

  • It's amazing the difference Mazda has made with their cars in the last few years. I had a 2014 Mazda6 base trim (the only way to get a manual) and last week upgraded to this hatchback with the 2.5L premium non-turbo trim (again - only way to get a manual). While the 6 was very reliable and enjoyable to drive, The difference in comfort, features, and interior quality was astounding with the new car.

If they could squeeze a bit more horsepower out of this engine say 280-290 on premium and 250-260 on regular,they would have a even more unique proposition,that and quicken the shifts on the transmission. I like the styling and see a bit of Alfa Romeo in their design language.

If its a city car or a long road trip car i would prefer a cvt. Better mileage and smoother power delivery. If you have a lot of merging from highway to highway i would go with a standard auto. It all depends on your commute. As for reliability, the cvt is holding up with no issues at 100k miles

Right off the bat, I had one recall that involved a possible sudden emergency stop auto activating while on the highway. Only one or a couple cases of this happening, but due to the severity of this glitch, I'm glad they recalled them and fixed that promptly. Also, when I bought my car the dealership already fixed an earlier recall where the rear view mirror had issues coming lose. Later, I had to take my car in for another recall that involved the possibility of a scenario where you could lock the key fob inside the car. Lastly, I had to bring my car in for another "recall", not really one, but Mazda had a software update on my system that enabled a new feature in my car for free. They gave my car the ability to remote start, unlock/lock and turn lights on/off through my smartphone app for Mazda. No other recalls aside from the two I had to take it in for, that rear-view mirror one, and that complimentary connected services feature. Not bad for a new generation on a car model. Now for quality issues, I've had issues with the weather seals on the driver and passenger front doors. They started tearing and sticking when opening and closing the doors. They fixed it and haven't had issues since. That's it for me. Never had to pay a penny.

One thing to note on the 0-60, I've read that a few journalists are getting much better times once the car is thoroughly broken in (which makes sense). I read an article yesterday of someone who got 0-60 in around 6.3 seconds on average with 200 miles on the odometer, and then was getting closer to 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with 800 miles on the odometer. • 2021 Mazda 3 GX Sport owner here. The issue you have with the channel list being hard to navigate. You can give the command through AI to play a specific channel or tune you like from your phone so that is the shortcut instead of rolling all the way down the list. Works for XM well. Only con i don't like about the car is the physical visibility but all models have the same safety systems such as blind sport monitoring to help with this. I love it :) Interior is so upscale and probably the best interior to be in compared to any base models on the market today. It's so ergonomic too requiring next to no thought to select or do what you want to do. Highly recommend the base model! Even got the fuel rating down to 5.9L/100km on the highway so far.

  • They have improved in a lot of ways, and I like their cars a lot. I bought a Subaru Impreza in 2019 before the AWD 3 or CX-30 were available. I would consider them for sure if I were buying a car today. I dont really care about lane tracing, and it is great that they have an otherwise complete driver assistance suite standard. The wide rear pillars of the hatchback really put me off, but the styling of the sedan is beautiful. However, my contention, and many road testers seems to agree, that the central button operated infotainment system Mazda uses is more complicated and distracting than most touch systems, so equally or more so "dangerous". Also, Android Auto, which is the primary feature I use (provides both navigation and music) is specifically engineered to touch operation. In fact, I believe the new CX-50 allows touch commands when AA is in use.
