  • Some advice. When you put the 977 back together use a block and tackle instead of the chain. You can then make small adjustments to lign this up. Moving the forks is way too jerks and inaccurate.

  • Years ago I puled the transmission out of my Cat track loader. The experienced mechanic said, if you paint the transmission before you put it in, It won't fit.

  • Had the option to buy one like it this spring, sitting in weeds under a tree, much like this one, only had so much money and I spent it on the 2 Ford 5000s they were also sitting neglected at the same place. The guy that bought the michigan got it running while I was there and after it ran for at least a full minute, blowing walnuts out of the stack, a red squirrel came barreling out too!! That detroit sounded so good, made me question my decision.

  • In the loader, is it possible the air leak is causing the air brakes to lock up the wheels, creating the drive problem…or at a minimum making it worse? When trying to push the 977, it looked like maybe that was an issue. Just a thought.

  • That took some creative thinking for a shop crane substitute! Another crazy shade tree mechanic solution is if you're lucky to have a giant oak tree: tow the dozer under a strong branch, lift the transmission with a chain block attached to the strong branch, tow the dozer out from under it and lower the transmission.

  • To make it easier to remove the transmission with an implement, use a 1 1/2 ton hoist, that makes it easier to remove it without having to move the machines, that is a very unsafe condition, doing it the way they are doing it. .

  • If the pedal was used to turn off the engine there's usually a stop where you have to put your foot under the pedal to pull it back and you can feel the pedal click to shut it off and when you go to start if you push the gas pedal a little then let off of it and then it locks into place so the engine will run

  • My crazy idea is using the loader forks as a base and attaching a heavier winch or as someone else mentioned a chain block & tackle. I myself would use at least an 8,000 pound electric winch. Or set the transmission on some steel plate in/on the machine and then adjust chains. Gotta think outside the box but safety comes first¡!!

  • You could make a horizontal crane 🏗️ mounted to a 48” tall vertical post welded to a base with rectangular tubing that slides over the Kubota forks with large bolts that tighten down on the forks. That would increase your lifting height
