In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

The “create tension” task is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The way every single one of them has a totally different approach.
And no one blindfolded Alex with an apple on his head and (pretended to) shoot a crossbow at it.... 😅.

With this baby task and finding the grabber in the boxing glove last episode, John is the type of contestant that tries to find the tries to find the loopholes, not necessarily the best at the tasks but the bests to watch and root for
In the very first (non-prize) task of the first episode, the first thing John did on entering the room is to look under the table. This guy Taskmasters.
In the podcast he's talked about having watched every series in preparation, so him looking for some tricks and loopholes is not surprising. On the other hand he's been friends with Alex for years, so Alex knows about his competitiveness and will have kept that in mind, I'm sure :)
I find him really hard to warm up to for the same reason.

It reminds me of the Season 7 art team task. Rhod: "Whoops. Whoops right banana, left banana." James: "Oh, you mean like that?" Rhod, nodding: "Left banana." And their communication over the rest of the team tasks only went downhill from there. 🤣

Every season with Taskmaster is the same experience for me - the first two episodes I'm a bit apprehensive about the contestants, I tell myself "ah well, they can't all be hitters, just a weaker group I guess" then somewhere around episode 3 it clicks and I start to appreciate them more. And, I expect by the end of the series I'll be convinced they're the greatest group yet. Happens every series basically.
Yea, there are certainly some casts I like more than others, but by and large I think one thing you can count on is that Alex and the Taskmaster crew are very very good at casting. I just enter each season assuming the cast is going to be great.
Nah. I was in love with Mike Wozniak, Tim Key, Mel Giedrich immediately.
I just said almost the exact same thing word for word to my husband. This was absolutely that episode for me as well.
Really? I can think of some seasons that had much weaker casts! Season 6 comes to mind. And season 8 too! Season 16's cast remains my favourite even after rewatching older seasons after season 16. The team tasks were phenomenal - Julian, Sam and Lucy were totally unhinged and I laughed till i cried at their last team tasks, and the 2 sue besties were so lovely and wholesome and feel good together.

in a sense this is one of the show's key tricks. he's built a whole persona around being bullyable because otherwise people would think of him, accurately, as the guy who comes up with the tasks, and greg is an apparatus of that persona, a figure of contrasting confidence.
I feel this whole show is an outlet for his various secrete kinks..
Good idea on that time-locked food bowl. If they can reduce Greg's suit-tailoring budget they might be able to afford a full-sized Alex Horne.

Same! I don't like him on Cats Does Countdown, but I just love him here.
they usually gerrymander the tasks in a way that lets everyone get an episode win when it's possible
100% agree! I hate his Mr. Swallow character but he's such a sweetheart here.
OMG I didn't realize he was Mr Swallow. Of course I've only seen Mr. Swallow once and that was enough to know that if I even get a whiff that he's on something I avoid it like the plague. So I'm glad I didn't know. I adore him as Nick the adorable vampire.
That's one of the greatest things about this show! Comedians just being themselves!
I love the way they pixelate Mr. Blobby before the reveal. It literally looks like how they censor something particularly gorey and gruesome on the news.
I liked how the "operator" had Mr. Blobby chase after LAH during Steve's go. And you can briefly see someone walking toward the tent (?) during Nick's go...
I was watching the Mr Blobby task waiting for someone to realize there was no rules against stepping backwards. They could have finished farther than where they started and see Mr Blobby without taking their eyes off of the duck as long as they still stepped forward with each quack.
The task was "you must take an average length step towards the duck" so can't step backwards which would be away from duck.
no stepping backwards allowed but i personally was screaming for them to move diagonnally /somewhat/ towards the duck but not really!!
Alex was a fool for accepting Steve’s Hangman Challenge. He literally creates cryptic crosswords, I’m sure he knows a few fancy words.
It was scripted to the bit.
@@kischtrineI'm not a big expert on telly tasks, but I think to have it go spontaneously would take far less time than to sit down, script every bit of the task, and later also to film it, everything within 20 minutes.
Must be easy to be cryptic when you cheat, The fact absolutely no one has called it out is baffling to me too...."A" is a vowel.
@@lnkmusic2534they were not allowed to ask for vowels. The words were allowed to have them. Where did they cheat?
@ericvanderaa I guess that's one way to interpret it. I've never heard of such a thing and with the wording used I would've assumed that no vowels were allowed in our chosen words. Maybe that's a u.k thing or something, would explain why no one batted an eye
Sophie's questions are absolutely demented, I could not love her more 😂
Joanne understood the "Create tension" task in a way I don't think any contestant has ever understood a task before. She saw the baseball coming and hit it a thousand miles.
I'm starting to like Nick's personality so much more than his stage personas
no duh, his personas are irritating as hell
Joanne McNally's tension creation is one of the best things I ever saw.
I never would have guessed that hangman word because I didn't know it. The word meaning 'assistant' is just a chief's kiss towards Alex.
If you were in the military - you may know what an "adjutant" is... I learned about it in the US Civil Air Patrol as a kid (CAP is an auxiliary of the US Air Force).
I don’t even get this on tv in America and I’ve seen every episode, even the international ones. Love the show!
I started screaming Mr. Blobby as soon as Steve got a yes to the letter B. This show just has Mr. Blobby energy 😂
I thought it was a chair for an elephant to sit down on.
Great episode. I expected better from Alex, saying that pounds is not a unit for tension. Unlike the kilogram, which is strictly a unit for mass, the pound (lbf) is technically for force.
Ohhh, task me, Master, TASK ME!
Nick has pure puppy energy. He's just so happy to be there and doing whatever it is he has to do
I really cracked up at Nick's tablecloth pull. I've seen people try that irl before and while it's very, very hard to pull it clean with everything still standing, I've seen people at least get the cloth out without knocking things off the table. To have everything roll right towards him with broken glass was a spectacular failure.
Imagine the "Create Tension" task with Rhod Gilbert?
Nick is so stinkin adorable!
I don’t know who John is, but I just want to hang out with him. He seems like a fun guy.
I love her leaving the room and saying ‘don’t look at me ever again,’ as if it’s his fault that she did that.
Alex creating tension was so good!
Taskmaster is always great! The one thing missing this season so far is any interaction or banter between the contestants. They come over as 5 strangers to each other
According to the task rules, someone who reaches the duck could walk around it, still facing/looking-at the duck at all times, but manage to look back and legally see who was following.
I'd argue that Sophie WAS facing the duck the entire time. Walking around to the other side of the duck is absolutely something that would have been allowed in the past. Rhod would've found a loophole to do it in zero steps.
"common mudpuppy" is definitely not a bird
That was disappointing - I love mudpuppies. Maybe the person overlaying the graphic got mixed up? I refuse to believe Alex doesn't know what a mudpuppy is. ;)
I had to disect one in college, definitely not a bird! Lol
Nice to see John finally winning. Even though I have no idea who she is, I really want Sophie to win an episode. She's made me laugh more than anyone else so far.
I see Joanne went to the Sally Phillips school of Taskmaster contestant 💯💯💯
asking how much each person was making and if they were making more than me was exactly my first thought for the tension task lol
it's a small thing but i really appreciated joanne shouting out that at every point she'd gotten consent to do...all that to alex.
I dated a guy for a short time in college who couldn't stand when I put my hi-liter marker on the table "standing up" because he couldn't stand the tension.
I wonder if the create tension task was inspired by Julian Clary on last season 😂
I really love you putting the episodes on KZhead, it is much more easier to get to this :D
