Kobe cooked JR and that's from multiple sources, he didn't however cook Jerry Stackhouse at the John Lucas run, that story took on legs but people who were there have said that while Kobe ended up getting the upperhand it wasn't a smackdown.

  • Brian Shaw ...he was my 1st basketball hero when he played for Rome's team in 1989-90 in the italian league 🇮🇹, instead of joining Bird's Celtics after university! Indeed, before going to the Nba, Danny Ferry (#2 drafted in 1989) and Brian Shaw accepted the high offer from the new management in Rome who want to build up a dinasty in the italian city. There were more expectations on Danny Ferry, but Brian Shaw did better, and he became a star of the league, at that time very competitive: the italian champions were to beat Ewing's Knicks at the McDonalds Open....they had advantage in the last seconds and only some circumstances allowed Knicks to avoid the defeat. Anyway....I have a personal anecdote about Brian Shaw. Late in the season, there was an event ...the football/basket friendly match against the As Rome football team: half time playing basketball, half time playing futsal, with mixed players. There was lot of energy and 15.000 of attendance, the biggest in Europe at that time. During the warm-up before the basketball part, given the atmosphere was friendly, I dared to go down the stands, approaching Brian, and asking him the ball for an off court try. I called him....asked him ...at the beginning he didn't understand, but as soon as he did, he didn't hesitate a single second and threw me the ball. I couldn't believe it! I made my try, but it was so poor...not even the screen. He looked at me, with a "dont worry" expression, and grabbed another ball to continue his warm up. ....you know? ...I dared to ask for a 2nd try! When he understood my 2nd request, his expression wasn't anymore the same, but a bit bothered. Nonetheless, he suddenly passed me the ball for the 2nd time, but unfortunately also this one went very poor. It was enough, and I thanked him. He then made a deed to mime how I should have shot better. All that in front of 15.000 of audience. He was incredibly friendly. Few months later, he decided to start his journey in the Nba and what happened at the 2nd game? Celtics won at Chicago with a Brian Shaw's last second shot, with the Bulls (who would win the first title at the end of that season) losing the second match after losing the 1st one. Brian Shaw was guarded by Michael Jordan .....and I couldnt believe that someone who passed me a basketball in front of 15.000 people, won a game to Michael Jordan in Chicago, beating him directly. You cannot imagine how outside Usa we used to watch at Nba stars in those years. They were seen literally as aliens anyway Brian is such a good person, and I was very sad when I got to know his painful story in the family
