French Palaces immerses us in the universe of some historical figures such as Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci and Catherine de Medici, but also introduces us to those who continue to keep France’s great chateaus alive today. Historians, curators, caretakers, landscape gardeners, artists and researchers have made these medieval gems their daily work and their passion. They guide us behind the scenes of these magical places to discover paintings, multicolored garden mosaics and priceless furniture.
Nowadays, an extensive cultural program is played out against the backdrop of these mythical chateaus. Contemporary art installations, exhibitions by great photographers, concerts, ephemeral garden displays: all the ingredients are combined to preserve this world cultural heritage.

  • This was great. I tried to watch a previous episode on Chateau Villandry but the voiceover was incomprehensible, this version is lovely. Well done.

  • Beautiful, interesting to find out that the original chateau was a dungeon and I liked learning the techniques they used to restore it.

  • I love the 'normal' English accents and intonation when translating from French. It does make me laugh 😃

  • It's a video more about the curators, the restoration than it is about the history

  • It’s a Tibetan saddle but a “Chinese delegation” says “No, that is a Chinese saddle” ...hmmmm interesting 🤨 (Given the history, of course they’re going to say that) Personally, I’d stick to your original description, but hey that’s just me.

  • Better title would be "preparing for a celebration." They didn't even show or explain the very unique double stairway.

  • 350,000 visitors every year paying full ticket price of 12€ to see the gardens and the chateau is 6,125,000 AUD/year. Now I’m interested in what they spend each year on staff and maintenance etc and what’s profit.

  • Very interesting piece. Had I been younger and healthier, I would have volunteered my time to assist you. I do however have a half serious challenge for you. The reconstruction of the Earls of d'Varenne castle in Bellencombre.

  • I've been finding it to be very difficult to find any information on French castles, mostly do to the language barrier and the fact that the French use the same word for castle as they do for mansions and other big houses.

  • If they r going to do restoration work the stone masons should use the same ancient methods & natural products of their time like not using a power blade to cut the stones but a chisel & hammer 🔨 or wood wedges so its not perfectly straight & adds to the character of the building, i find the restored castle walls in video appears to be too straight & perfect & newly painted like modern buildings or man made castle Disneyland, i would rather pay $ to see a real rough & rugged castle with rough walls & drafty open windows not visit a modernised sanitised unrecognisable castle building museum which is a pity cos this castle has such a rich history of famous rulers occupants

    • I appreciate your enthusiasm. But I would like to see you deal with such logistics. The castle in my opinion is being handled well. Remember someone paid for this grand estate & they want to preserve it as best you can. Must keep up with the times in some regard. Many castles were very VERY COLD & WET in the old world = THAT IS NOT A GOOD SIGN FOR MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENTS SUCH AS THESE
