I came home from work, watched Cutting Edge Engineering weekly video, as it finished up came a notification On Fire Welding video is on, great timing saw the new line boring machine, now it’s time to sleep. 😁👍
Me too.
WTF me too LOL
Me three. BTW, that Frenna was a mess of rust. Do they live near the coast at all? Like within about 5 miles? I'd put it all together with neverseize, if it were me.
Wow, unreal, same here... Incredibly enough...
@@tetedur377The CEE Franna crane was previously used to load parts into and out of a caustic wash bay is my understanding from what Curtis described in the early videos on the machine. Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Im impressed at your decision to set this up slowly without rushing into it. So many (to many) people try to show how much they know by speeding through procedures like this and ultimately making a mistake or three and ruining the workpiece or the tool. You have gained respect and appreciation by your process.
I came up with a good alignment method when referencing off of an existing parallel bore. I went and got heim joints with eyes the same diameter as the boring bar and I welded bar ends into different lengths of dom tubing. They are basically adjustable link bars that allows me to perfectly line up the bore.
Given your experience and knowledge of line boring and the fact that you already own what is probably the very best line boring setup available, I would say that you gave S-Power a ringing endorsement. I’ve commented many times before on your videos about my fascination with line boring and desire to get into it. I believe, based on your experience as well as other S-Power customer review videos that I’ve watched, that this is a system that I could use and afford in order to get started. Thanks for your insights.
I mean lol he is recommending it as a starter kit. Not like he’d going to recommend his own, best on the market, kit, for someone starting out.
Thx for the obvious comment & response lol. It’s like lol No Sht Sherlock 😂🫡
Well, I see the mean girls are awake! Obvious? I’ll give you that. Thought I’d try to help Greg’s algorithm for taking the time to do the review with something slightly more intelligent than, “First”. Glad you fellers found it entertaining. Have a blessed day.
I don’t laugh at people figuring out how to make something work. Great job.
Sure beats figuring out how to fix it again if you don't... nice job.
I think he did a great job, just look at the results! Especially with a machine he never used before.
I realize that I like your vids for the great experience you display; but I also like it because you seem like a moderate, calm person unlike some die-hard guys in this field. Your shop is bold, not filled with propaganda posters (either side of the fence, propaganda takes us for more stupid then we actually are). It is all about welding and an important welder experience. Your vids make me see the importance of dual shield (I was a bit under the stick mode dogma). Thanks!
Thank you. I have my beliefs but I try to keep KZhead professional. I do call people out in the comments though! Dual shield is great. But stick has its place.
Another Texan says hello. Love to watch you work and solve problems.
Hello fellow Texan!
Jesus man, you have some serious Mits !! Thank God you are a welder and not a proctologist
*On Fire Welding* Great job as always, thank-you sir for taking the time to bring us along. GOD Bless.
Wow, I know nothing about welding, machining or boring and am totally fascinated with your abilities and work! Thank you for sharing with us!
Greg all I will say you are a true craftsman and mechanic
For that small amount of money I can see my shop expanding to offer line boring now. Great video as usual. Thanks
It's amaizing to me your repair ! also amaising the force it must have taken to bend that link so much ..... and it didnt break
Well a great part 2 . Really enjoyed watching the review on the line boring kit . I agree there is always going to be teething problems but for the limited heads up on how to use it you did a fantastic job . For the price it seems a good investment for a start up item . As said a few improvements on certain parts could help in the long run but it's a usable tool out the box . Thanks for the overall time frame on the repair a lot of the time a couple of hours in a video really doesn't give the real time perspective with the hours it can take you to do the repair . And not a bad match on the paint . Thanks again fir a great video with great content .
Another good job ... I kind of thought that trying to straighten that one side was not gonna workout. Glad to see you had the replacement side already to go. Nice J Joint weld, got to love the 71M wire. I did watch guys doing line boring but the Co i was working for at the time hired me to do cracks and weld on grouser bar so could not do a lot of learning at that time. my background is Welding, Machining,Lathe and mill And operator of all kinds of equipment
Excellent presentation. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us.
9:50 Now _that_ is what I call truly _quiet!1_ Astonishing! 😮
Hello Greg. I'm new to your channel and really enjoy watching it. The reason I am writing to you is I watch C & C Equipment KZhead channel and he just bought a metal fab shop complete with lots of fab equipment . There are a lot of Miller welders that he is talking about selling, so I thought I would give you a heads up so you see if there is any welders or other equipment you might be interested in. His video was just posted yesterday. Take care, Russ
Thank you. I will check it out.
Absolutely beautiful, you always take great pride in your work.
Great two part video. Thanks for the review on the boring equipment.
You are a brave soldier!! Nice narration of the goods and bads. I thank KZhead for the privilege of watching "On Fire Welding", "I C Weld", C&C, & CEE some really great machinist/welders. THANK ALL OF YOU. Ye Ole Caterpillar Cowboy out here in Illinois. If "S-Power" doesn't take advantage of your experience and make some changes DAMN fast they are missing the boat. Back to the project. I think I'd drill thru the pin delivery grease in two places at once. Congrats Gregg, excellent project.
Well done. Thanks for the video Scott
awesome review of the product. I appreciate your frustration at the 1/2 fine thread and 1/2 coarse thread. That seems as if it is a manufacturing error. especially when the screws they sent you do not fit and you have to use your own. Great job on the repair.
Well done, Greg!
Lots of work, great job!
Another great job, thank you.
Very interesting project, than you for sharing your skills.
I need to buy a new line boring setup thanks for the review
You do very excellent work.
I have to say that was a crap load of work but the end result is very nice, Great Job!
Beautiful job! Hello from the State of Texas.
I enjoyed this video very much. You did a great job.
1,122 👍's up on fire welding thank you for sharing 🤗
Nice result from a very difficult repair! Best wishes!
very good vid, enjoy your work and your skill very good at anything you do,highly skilled I think, and been doing this type work since late 60'sthank you
Turned out great again.
👌👍! Great job! Keep them coming! Thanks for sharing!
Great job ! Would love to of been there when that bent, sure it made a pretty good thud
Nice work! As usual. Seems like that line bore setup is pretty good.
great work as always!
Part 2 ,,, morning coffeesss on! Here we go!!;-)!!! Cheers!
Nice setup you have
Really interesting video. Went and visited their factory last week in China and it was a really cool operation. A lot of manual mills with a few cnc lathes they seem to make a good product considering the price.
Have you ordered one form China? Lot less then usa
beautiful job congratulations , small shop big jobs .
Great job! My guess is that customer had you do this repair because a new link was either not available. Not available in a reasonable time and or price. Love it if you included in your videos exactly what you saved your customer by doing this.
Yep, a new or used link was not available. And the repair was about half of a new one if it was available.
Awesome work man!
Amazing job 👏
Great video that is a great price to get into line boring.
Looks very sturdy well done. I always wanted a line borer but stuck with the site welding and lathe/mill. Guess you could use the pitch of the grub screw for roughing cuts 2mm pitch one turn = 4mm Maybe shorten the arc length to stop that wire problem .
Great video and great job!
Awesome as Always... Really loved this one Great content..
Fantastic looking kit 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
This was a good video to watch.
An interesting episdoe young man. No doubt as with a lot of things from the orient, doing some modification improvements can convert the product into a much improved tool over the original.
Nice job 👍
Thanks for sharing mate
Good work 👍
Bro that thing has some serious torque...
Great video!! Maybe clamp a thick copper plate so the weld would have a backing plate to keep the weld inside the bore.
Good video on the new boring machine. It was strange to receive the rusty set screws which did not belong. Milwaukee has a good reputation and this really disturbed me. I liked the graduated screw hole to assist with tool depth. Too bad the measuring device did not work. Yours is better.
Nice job 😊
Well done!
Awesome man I was waiting for this one 🍻
I think we're used to the sound of the Climax ! 😂
Used to max out and start to melting cables shooting weld studs back in shop days😂
Amazing work as always. Wish you were in the St Louis area
Hi Greg, I just finished both videos on this repair and I have to say that it was one hell of a repair. That part must go through hundreds of cycles during a day of operation when you stop and think about it, so it is a little surprising that there is metal on metal contact between the arm and the pin and the other connection without having any bushings to take up some of the daily wear. It is all a bit much expecting the grease to do all of the work and we are all aware that not everyone is diligent with their daily grease patrol of their equipment. But then again what would I know? 😅 I noticed during the video that your press frame lower bar was flexing during the operation and you mentioned that it has bowed, so I guess that we can all look forward to when you get busy and Frankenstein the press! I love a good bit of Frankenstein equipment! 😅 Keep busy and stay safe! Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Well lucky for this machine it’s retired and lives on a farm and gets used a couple times a year. But yes, this is a bad design.
As always I look forward to see your videos to me it's like sitting in a classroom and you're the teacher always something to learn from what you're doing
Nice job, see where the old pin sheared at the grease hole drilling. Also common in the Volvo machine.
Pretty much every bored pin.
great work
Just found this channel 🎉
Pretty incredible. You have to know what you're doing with this equipment.
That was nice brother.
so the bars should all be threaded m10 x 1.0mm pitch which is metric very fine I ended up retapping all the threads on my bars I have them from 1000mm out to 2500mm the measuring tool is very good it just takes a little bit of getting used to as its measuring tool stick out x2 +bar diameter to give you your bore diameter you need to sweep it across the top of the tool to find the proper height if you turn the adjuster 1mm it adjusts the diameter 2mm for mounting the motor I made up some short studs to make mounting easier it saves a lot of hassle ,to get round the bore welding issues cut the liner back a bit and screw it into the threaded part they are made too long that's why it arced inside they are very good machines and they don't cost a lot I am keen to see your thoughts on the facing head another top video 👍 to get around the issue of the welding tapering to the edge I sometimes swap the motor to the other side for reference I run 2 of these machines and got rid of my hydraulic one
Another job is done and it may work for a while, I don't know who engineered or designed that setup but it should have been oversized and bushing installed so the bushings would wear instead of the pin and arm. because you could see from the camera angles that there were areas where the pin was not touching the bore 100% better than you started with
That doesn't look pretty good, that's beautiful, good job. I don't know anything about line boring but i could see the two sides were not parallel. You saved someone a lot of Buck$.
The Italian line borer that Kurtis (CEE) uses seems easier to install. Subbed to your channel! Awesome skills
I would definitely say his is better than this particular one. But it’s also a lot more expensive.
Seems the haters came on strong on this one. I thought it looked good. He made it back to factory? It looked like an older machine and this repair will probably last the rest of its/owners life.
Nice Job
CEE has a really nice line boring machine, and I'm pretty sure I've seen him use a runout tab, or pipe in this case, to weld at least one bore. That might be the solution that would fix your tapering weld situation here
Or maybe as an alternative if it works, weld from the center out from both sides. I think you could do this with just two setups, step the first welds then fill in from the other side
Yes, his machine is definitely nicer than this one. But this one was cheap and it works pretty well, that was a part of the test. A run out tab is probably the best solution, but in the time spent making one you could just weld the end by hand.
Great job, holy shit that was a lot of work.
I don't ever expect to need to do any line boring but I would have to say that, based on the finish issues of burs and mismatched hole tapping of the bar holes - there are serious quality issues. I'm guessing that Milwaukee buys some components rather than make them so it could be a vendor issue but they owe a look at the entire system to the customer prior to pushing it out the door. I would hope they pay attention and fix these (and other noted) problems, being that the rest of the system seems to work adequately.
Milwaukee only makes the boxes. S power makes everything in them. For the price it’s decent. But could be improved on.
Spower smachine sis sgreat!!!
On the cheap bore welder we have we can only run it counter clockwise when looking from behind it If you run it the other way the threads can unwind causing the gun to come apart inside and arc out Kinda looked like what happened to you?
Small line boring I've watched some large line boring done on gas and steam turbines, I was there to make sure power integrity. The shaft sizes were up to 12 inches in diameter.
Yes, this is very small.
BEST WELDER NORTH OF THE ARTIC CIRCLE
Did you think about doing PWHT (post weld heat treatment) To that heavy weld? He’s going to be a lot of stress associated with the welding. Something to consider.
Nice cardboard aided fabrication.
a way to fine adjust the bar location and different angle welding nozzles seem like pretty clear upgrades that should be done either by the manufacturer or the owner. thanks for sharing!!
I have been waiting for this video ..... the only reasson i havent got a spower machine is most of the equipment i do has smaller holes than the s power dose ...
They do sell a small bar kit I believe. I also think it would be pretty easy to make a small bar kit yourself. I saw someone with a S power and 1” bar.
После того как вы увидели где резец не берет металл, нужно было наплавить не хватающее количество металла, а уже после этого растачивать под нужный размер.
First, great repair/rebuild efforts! Probably an optical illusion from my perspective, but while you made the two bars parallel from one end to the other in the "y" axis, it looked like they were off from each other in the "x" axis. They just didn't look like they both were lined up measuring from the floor up to both bars... It looked like the arm had a slight twist motion to it from one side to the other. I'm sure that wasn't they case, but just an illusion from my perspective on screen... Thumbs Up!
Ya, it’s hard to see in the video. I used a digital level to make them parallel. It probably looks half ass in the video.
@@OFW Oh, I am positive you did and made them perfect. It was just the camera angle or something. But I knew you didn't bore them wrong...that's just not you...
@@garymucher4082 I think it was because the bars were not parallel to the edge of the bench, combined with the camera angle.
I was waiting for the infamous white pick-up to make an appearance, but sadly it was probably out for a respray.....LOL Great video.
Nice repair using a new system for the first time, your insights and evals are to the point, you provide a valuable resource to any of your viewers who may be seeking to add this type of process. Rattle spray paint is always a hit or miss process with respect to color match and paints are never very durable. I like the rotating welding table/vise why not do a review of the model you are using? Do you ever consider induction hardening of the pin/s you make? Ray Stormont
Ya, I didn’t like the paint job but the customer is my friend so he doesn’t care. And he wanted to use a regular pin not induction hardened.
That’s easily over a $8K repair! Solid repair.
Nice job Doug (Greg)lol!
that was not bad, but never compare American equipment with the Chinese one, good job see you in next video ❤
Respekt!!!!🧐👌👍👍
Amazing job well done 🦘
I have several customers that have been wanting me to get into the line boring because they hate farming it out and so do I. That is in my price range to try it out and learn it. this was a very informative video! Because of the angle of the nozzle when you’re welding on the far side of the hole, what would happen if you clamped to say quarter inch thick copper plate up there to weld up against your welding, so you don’t run out on the wire and the? Just a thought as I was watching the video.
Maybe. I think I just need more experience with it.
