  • I can't deny that this broke my heart a little bit... For the whole family but mostly for Ryan. I remember my son growing up at the track, he won a lot and I took too much of the fun out of it for him..... Wish I wouldn't have done that... Then a friend of ours was killed in a rhythm section at 11 years old. 2 weeks later my son broke his tib-fib in that same rhythm section. At that point in time we gave racing up..... we still ride for fun and it means more now than it ever did....

  • I remember meeting Villopoto a few years back. I've met a lot of pros over the years and ALL of them except one have been happy to meet a fan and talk to them. I knew some people that could get me and my dad into the Anaheim pits at the end of the night once everything had quieted down. Saw Villopoto hanging out next to his rig while the guys were starting to tear things down so figured we'd say hi. Can't remember how he placed that night, but the guys face was just cold and indifferent. He was nice enough to take a pic with us but just turned and walked away once the camera was lowered lol. Guess this video shows thats just how he is. Shame a professional athlete could seem so unhappy about what they do.

RV is happier than ever now that all of that had passed. • are you putting enough effort on racing?

      @stefane458@stefane45810 жыл бұрын
    • No I enter a race once or twice a year usually a harescramble. I do it just for fun, I dont care if i win or loose, it takes riding to a whole new level of fun. Being to serious about racing I think can for sure make your life in a non fun direction.

      @vic2340@vic234010 жыл бұрын
    • Well I mean...It's a job. Same way for any other motorsport. You start at 4, and ages 9-18 it's as serious as it's ever going to get. You HOPE that it stays fun enough to offset the bullshit, but sometimes it doesn't. Prime example is Kimi Raikonnen. I honestly believe he races because he gets cut a wicked check, he'd rather be in Finland fishing. Doesn't give a damn about winning. His mentality is more "If i'm going to be here, I might as well win", not "I MUST win at any cost".

      @MichaelF1@MichaelF19 жыл бұрын
    • Very good points there. thanks for the insight, I agree, I dont think mx is a healthy lifestyle, these guys get mentally and physically destroyed all day everyday, they must have a lot of metal in there bodies by the time they retire, and as you said a lot of guys just think of it as a job, I would think of it only as fun, as soon as its a job, im out.

      @vic2340@vic23409 жыл бұрын
    • +vic2340 I wouldn't mind doing this as a job, i've already managed to get permanent damage to my body because of it. And atleast it would've been a job and a lifestyle that i enjoy, i'm going to a mx school this year, and probably next year too. Nothing but good memories of it. I'm not out to be the best though, it'd be fun, but the only thing i want with my bike, is what it gives me. Joy.

  • Even at this younger age, I can tell Kylie Villopoto is a sharp young lady with good values who grew up watching her brother become "Somebody Great!". A few months ago, (6 years after this vid), I read an interview of her in a MX mag, (Dream jobs), as she now works in the industry. Her attitude impressed me there also. Who ever tries to marry that gal better be a hero, or working on it, because she will not accept anything less, and she should not. Watch this gal earn a great life also. Good values, are worth keeping. :)

Just imagine smashing your leg to bits on a horror fall like that, ending up in traction for months, all the pain and agony, then getting back on a MX bike knowing one fall which is highly possible racing at the pace these do. That in itself is insane to me. Great rider and story.
