@@WilliamHollinger2019 Rich in life!....
Have never driven a lambo but I've rented a McLaren and regularly have more fun in my crudely modified Bimmers. I can beat on them and don't care that much when I break something where the entire time we had the supercar I was stressed about it. The Lambo you can't really personalize outside of the paint and body work so I'll bet owning one doesn't even feel like you own it.

LMAOOOO how poetic 🤣🤣
If nothing else was done to the truck, it really speaks to how well the Ford Ranger holds up. Being so old and having 250k miles. It was impressive to even do that much out in the desert and still take a beating. I can't wait to see it fully modded.
Nothing like seeing an old Ford Ranger being put to the test! Can't wait to see how this build progresses.

That slowmo shot of the rack falling off was so majestic, it's like the truck was breaking free from the chains of its past life

had the 2000 4.0 which was the last model with the OHV engine (same as in the vid, the 4.3 is incorrect). them losing it on the road with the wheel spin is super nostalgic throwback to my time in college with it. one of the most nonsensical power-torque ratios ever put to a truck under 3500 lbs.
Correct rangers had either 2.3s, 3.0s, or 4.0s.
Had an 02 ranger for my highschool truck. Thing was a tank and one of my favorite cars I’ve owned. Never had an issue with the thing and I put 275k on it before I sold it. I’m trying to buy another one of them for my hunting and cabin vehicle since I have a Corolla for a daily these days
yeah the 4.3l was the s10/s15 trucks
I'm from small town Canada.... you would not find a ranger that nice for under 5 grand round here. what a beauty!
Tell me about it, most of the newer ones from the last Gen up to 2011 are a minimum 10k
When the rack flew off the bed, I like to imagine it like that scene from cars 3 when Lightning’s old paint job gets revealed. I like to imagine the ranger understands its assignment and what it needs to become now.
Great character development
It’s work truck days are over

Now this is what ive been waiting for! Got a 2006 ford ranger xlt 2wd with the 3.0 v6. My great grandfather left it to me when he passed away. Ive been doing small mods on it but im getting ready for a lift and tires. I couldnt imagine ever getting rid of it! Great little trucks!
A man who lives near me has a small handyman/landscape company that he runs. He has a yard full of that generation Ford Rangers, each attached to a different piece of equipment or trailer. He's got a Ranger hooked up to a stump grinder, a separate Ranger hooked up to a landscape trailer, a separate Ranger hooked up to a small cement mixer, and a separate Ranger hooked up to a dump trailer. He just gets up in the morning and gets in whatever Ranger is hooked up to what he needs for the day. I think he's a genius.
Always has a back up vehicle and spares just in case.
The small truck was amazing. It sucks that companies don't make them anymore.
Those rangers were tough little things, my dad had one, went around 300k miles before the transmission started doing dodgy stuff
That’s funny. Never has to hitch anything up just get in and go. I bet keeping track of all the different keys can be a pain
@@CRneu I agree, Ford makes the maverick now but it doesn't compare to 90-00s Ranger, S10, Tacoma/Hilux, Frontiers/Navara of that era. Those are the toughest and best small trucks ever made.

4.0 V6 Doesnt actually matter, but the only 6 cyl available for the Ranger were a 3.0 and a 4.0 V6.
Yeah that really threw me off.
Yeah. S10 had the 4.3. Ranger was 4.0 OHV and 4.0 SOHC (both were pretty slow).

Rangers are ALL I've ever owned and I've been on the road for over 30 years now. Currently own three and all are on the road weekly. An 85 survivor long bed, an 87 V8/T5Z shortbed that I've sunk 40k into, and a 2001 4.0 4x4 short bed standard cab on 33" MT's that is rare as it gets for Rangers. I'll be watching this build eagerly. (oh and the Ranger never came with a 4.3 V6 guys)

I got an 86 with the 4-banger. Eventually it's going to get that 2.9 Cologne that saved my life back in the 90's.
@rangeraficiano. Well I just bought 92 XLT 4x4 and I have never been a ford guy but had to get one for all the passion I've heard for this trucks over the years. I'm stoked to see this series myself.
I had a 93 s10 with a 4.3 and that thing was bulletproof!
Yea they are cheap now. But after this video . People are going to mark up prices on this great pickup truck
My dad had a yellow 99 ranger back in the day. I loved that little truck. When he passed my mom gave it to my cousin who promptly hit a dear and flipped it into a ravine, but the little ranger kept him safe with just a few bumps and scratches. Love those trucks, can't wait for the build.
My 1993 ran 450k miles and still ran when I traded it in.
As someone building a 97 ranger prerunner, this is going to be my favorite series yet! Really hoping you do a I-beam and trailing arm setup!
@Donut, compliments to your graphics guys, really levelling up the little details. Nice.
My dad brought home a brand new one just like that in 1993, but ours was an XL with a 3.0 V6 and a 5 speed manual. I learned to drive stick on it, and so did my little brother. I learned how to install a stereo in it with a sub, and I had a muffler shop do a custom catback which my mom hated and had redone back to stock. I jumped it when we had floods warp some of the roads around us. It stayed in our family until my brother took it to the junkyard a decade ago, it probably still had a lot of life left in it. Also, that is a 4.0 liter V6, the 4.3 liter V6 was the GM engine from that era.
I was just thinking about that. Rangers came with a 4.0v6 not a 4.3 v6
Ya they messed up anyways, 4.3L was a chev engine, this is a 4.0L most likely
12:27 When that music kicked in and I saw the truck bouncing, all I could think of was…. WAAHHOOO! Tow Mater comin atchya!
Oh bro, I'm so excited for this build! I'm putting some love into the '88 this year and will be watching y'all closely! Much love guys 🙏
This is one I'm actually excited to watch. I own a 02 ranger xlt 4x4. My plan is to eventually turn it into an overland truck and spend some time driving trails and camping. Not super different requirements than a Baja truck. I just won't need as expensive parts.
My first vehicle was a 94 Ranger 4.0 V6 2wd, It was a gift from my grandparents and I loved the hell out of that truck. It had those really comfortable seats, it drove well it was a fun first vehicle. In fact I still have it and refuse to part with it or let it die, plus its as old as me so I feel more connected to it.

That’s what i was thinking when i heard him say it but i don’t know enough about rangers
Looking forward to this series! lets go!
I've had a couple rangers. Great trucks. Excited for this series.
The dash isn't from a 93. Unless that's a newer cab or something... The pushrod 4.0 ❤ got one sitting in my garage. If you keep the front ttb you're going to want to get the super runner equal length steering and length extended radius arms for travel. Get a 8.8 out of a explorer put in for 31 spline axles and ditch the auto if it's automatic. Chevy 1500 springs fit the rear. You remove the front spring hanger and move it forward to the front 2 bolt holes. Bolt it back on and drill 2 new holes. Instant longer travel and softer.
Came to say the same thing about the year. That’s 100% not a 93

My first car was a 2wd 4cyl '99 Ranger. The year I got it, we broke all the snowfall records here in Detroit. I threw 300lbs of sand in the bed and only got stuck once when I slid off the road into a ditch doing a little "drifting". Was super reliable other than when I blew a brake line because the previous owner had filled the brake system with coolant (I have no idea how). I sold it a year and a half later to buy a crappy old '91 wrangler. I don't regret selling it, but I do miss it.

I love ford rangers! I’ve owned at least 10, most running, some not, one was bought wrecked as a parts truck, all of them were 2.3l 5 speeds (wrecked truck was an auto). I love this generation of ranger too (93-97). They definitely got the best generation ranger. Although, if they have to do a heater core, it’ll suck in that one. I’m 13 seconds in and they have a 95-97 ranger. The heater core in a 93-94 is a 30 minute job, max. Heater core in a 95-97 is like an 8 hour job. Edit: Nolan is wrong about it being a 93. It’s not. Dash is different, grill is different. Grill is easy to change. Dash has a few different mounting studs. Unless someone went through the trouble to swap a newer dash into an older ranger, it’s a 95-97. Second edit: a ranger of that era, if it had a V6, it was a 3.0 or a 4.0. They both sucked. My ex bought a 4.0 2000 ranger after I told her I didn’t want to work on it. She bought it and was like, you love rangers! It’ll be easy. So, I proceeded to do head gaskets, timing chain, cam synchro, front cover gasket. Just to cover the basics for those 4.0’s. Third edit: the dinger is a 95-97. Seriously, I know these trucks.
Yeah not a 4.3, that's GM. I got a 1996 4.0 5 speed 2wd.

I'm excited to watch this build, you guys are right where I was 20 years ago when I bought my '85 Ranger on eBay for $550 with the goal of making a poor-man's Lightning (289 V8 and T-5 5-speed swap). It's been a great project, and I still own it today. The Ranger is sort of the gift that keeps on giving as I come up with new things modify here and there. $500 for a truck that runs is pretty fantastic. You pretty much knew from the start you would be replacing everything but some of the frame and body anyway. I miss my 94 4.0 5 spd splash. It was the ranger version of the s10 xtreme. Just less extreme. Color matching mirrors, grill and lower valence. Slight drop from the factory. I added a 4/5 djm drop to that thing. Was a burnout monster. I miss it
Old rangers are the best small trucks ever! I've had mine for 16 years. 215k miles. I've jumped it, raced it, drifted it, and even had it on 2 wheels. They are damn near indestructible.
I have to politely disagree as an S10 guy. Also, as an S10 guy, I love these rangers. I’m just glad they exist. The rivalry between the two is great. No real hate because it’s really just small trucks vs the world!
Really looking forward to this. I just recently bought a 2006 Mazda b2300 (The Ranger's twin) with only 43K miles for $3k, always garage kept in a retirement community. I bought it as a cheap city driver, but I am already getting the itch to make some improvements. Mainly to the suspension to improve the ride. While it has low mileage, after 18 years, the suspension bushings need a refresh, and the shocks are obviously low on fluid as this thing bounces like an old Cadillac.
Got the same truck! 2004 tho, bought it with 100k for 5 but I live in cali so a 3k truck is rare and far between :,)
@@sierrab.1373 how is your highway mpg? I was able to get 20mpg on a 107 mile trip last weekend. The tires on it now are slightly oversize, by about 12% in diameter, so I am hoping putting on a set of stock tire size makes an improvement. Not sure how this truck is going to get anywhere near its EPA 26mpg highway, without getting towed.
@@ageekandhistacoma funny I have some beefy tires on there too, wider than the stock 225, they are 255’s or something so I’d say around 20-23 mpg on a good day. The larger tank helps, but I usually never drive highway it’s all under 30 mile trips and through town. Longest trip I went on was around an hour and I think I averaged around 22 mpg 😭 definitely not a gas saver but could be worse
@sierrab.1373 I wish I could get over 20 in city driving. I've been getting around 17. I need to do a full once over on everything. Check the spark plugs, clean the maf and TB, put in new brake fluid. I've just been driving it as is since I bought it, except for getting an oil change. I know of one thing that is bad, and that is the idle air control valve. It gets stuck sometimes. I have a new one coming in a few days, and I'm hoping that also helps with gas mileage.
@@ageekandhistacoma oh man I could write an essay of everything I’ve done 😐 She’s got a vibration sort of in the front end, but I believe now it’s coming from the rear differential. I’ve replaced the tie rods, control arms, rack, drive shaft, rear seal main seal, front breaks, shocks, wheel bearings, pvc valve, water pump/belt, and thermostat And general fluid maintenance So far though, even after all the drive train work it’s still got a shake going over 70 🥲 great truck just cannot get the shake out, I’m putting new rims on and getting an alignment so I’ll see where that takes me but I’m at a loss now The rear pinion seal where the drive shaft meets the differential is leaking, which makes me believe it’s something with the gears in the rear, any ideas if you have them are appreciated 😭
Cannot wait for this series
Cant wait to see this thing being built!
I'm so excited for this! The Ranger (especially this generation) has a special place in my heart. When I was 14 and working weekends on a friend's farm that was the truck that my buddies and I used to get around. It's also among the first and (sadly) only manuals I've ever used.
I have a 97 ranger auto, I can't wait to see him modify my daily
A 2wd 94 ford ranger was my first car and It was so good I bought it back two years after I sold it for a jeep. These trucks are loads of fun off road even without 4x4 or mods. Worst problem Ive ever had with mine is the center console latch broke. Love these trucks and looking forward to the build,😮 and Im a little bit jealous of the intact center console.
LOL my buddy's center console latch broke in his Ranger also.
I had a '94 2wd 5-speed V6 Ranger as my first car. The only thing in the interior that broke was the center console latch, and I also sold it for a Jeep. Haven't had the chance to buy it back yet though, likely I'll never see it again. The guy who bought it came up from Mexico and brought it back down with him. Still my greatest regret.
I'm here for the trip, ready for the next video
been waiting for this forever !!! free runners are so fkn cool !!
This makes me so happy. The way you described the so cal ranger bro dream was SPOT ON. I owned a 2007 ranger and that is exactly how I felt. Had that baby for a while, eventually moved to Texas and ended up selling it for a Tacoma. I always wanted a prerunner 😢
You could have just ditched the plates and no one would have known you were a Californian. We didn't ever have to know, bro.
When I was a kid, my parents had an '89 Ford Ranger 5 speed that was red with paint off chipping off of it everywhere, I would BEG my mom to pick me up from school in it. They never understood what I loved so much about that POS truck when my dad had Cadillacs and my brother had a much nicer Dodge Dakota RT that was almost brand new, my mom just drove a Festiva. I now own 75% of my vehicles as manuals, and the only reason I have automatic anything is my Fiancé. It was that damn stick in the middle of the floor that I loved so much. Fascinated me when everyone else's cars and trucks just had a lever you pulled.
