LYRICS
If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all ok
And not to worry because worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I will not be made useless
I won't be idled with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
But it didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But i knew it wasn't ever after
We will fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small, i know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes God's hands God's mind
We are God's eyes God's hands God's heart
We are God's eyes God's hands God's eyes God's hands
We are God's hands God's hands We are God's hands
Heard this in the airport returning back from war. Tired, hungry, beaten, lost, just discharged from the Marines. I heard the lyrics and it saved my life. I was close to not being alive had I not heard the voice of an angel. Praise God.🙏🏼🇺🇸
Welcome home Runnin’ Rebel ❤❤❤❤🇺🇸

I’m listening to Jewel Hands late February 2024 0:26
I binge watch American Idol (dont judge me lol) and Season 6 Episode 1, a girl came on trying to sing like Jewel and got told "no" and this song came on and "Good Day" so I googled the lyrics I heard and so glad I found this.
Burn bright and shine on my friends 🎩🖤
Am right here
RIP dj ck
We are God's hands. We are never broken. Live it.
"Poverty stole your golden shoes, it didn't steal your laughter" what a beyond powerful verse
what I believe is she was meant to share love and almost lost her life because she couldnt even afford a Dr.....she is golden that's a given
Deep!
Absolutely 💯

I really wish we could say the same of all suffering of life
Thank you God for giving Jewel to us 🙏
Jewel is a rare breed such a unique one of a kind voice. 90s music was the best time for music.
Agreed
The best time to exist
The last great decade for music, you mean. The 60s, 70s, and 80s had their fair share of excellent song as well.
@@spotter121877exactly. Several decades of good music before the turn of the century
I'll take the 80s all day. The 90s was the beginning of the end and ushered in so much soulless pop crap
My twin sister passed away from ALS at 56 years young. She loved this song and her daughter sang it to her while she was bedridden. It is burned in my brain the lyrics, "In the end, only kindness matters!" As she lay dying struggling to even speak, she thanked the nurses...."Thank you for your kindness" As they gave her medicines and helped her. This song has greater meaning for me as it is entwined with my loss. Her last year of life it was her mantra...only kindness matters.
🕯️
I'm so heartbroken for your loss may God give you the peace that passes understanding
“I Am Never Broken” One Day you will see your twin sister again… we are all blessed ❤️
Beautiful sentiment for you and your sister 😇
My condolences on the loss of your twin sister 🌿🕊
Decades later and I still get goosebumps as she sings "cause where there´s a man who has no voice there ours shall go sing!" This song always brings tears to my eyes. Jewels touches on some strings no one else can.
yeeeaaahhh , i feel the same ... and i remember when was showed this video for the first time... i did´t feel anything, but today, i confess that i feel a tear in my eyes... i´m more old...

🎶We'll fight, not out of spite For someone must stand up for what's right🎶
Thank You, Jewel for singing this song for me 12/28/23 at the Sheridan Opera House-Telluride, CO. It was beautiful!!! Requested, In memory of my Granny Sanders who got down on her knees every day and Prayed! Yes, We are God's....eyes, hands, heart...
I am never broken. In the end, only kindness matters.
Faith, Hope, Trust, in Christ, Kindness towards other's is needed! We need to show Love, and Kindness to each other. That's what God wants! Blessings! 🎶💜🎶✝️🦋
One of the most thoughtful lyrics and music videos out there. I wish Jewel was still making songs like this. ❤️
We don't listen to the music.. We listen to the memories attached to it..❤❤❤
Exactly. My mother had just passed away and I had just moved into a new apartment. The Monica Lewinsky scandal was going on and Titanic was still playing in theaters. Such a different time.
It’s mind blowing that she wrote the lyrics to this song at 16.
homeless living in her car in Alaska and never loosing her faith. I love her
What's so great about them? What has she done to help society? She made a song?
@brandonk1502 Well then, maybe you should ask her yourself! It's not very kind to have such presumptuous questions of someone you don't even know.
@@brandonk1502 She gives a message of HOPE, and no just questioning somebody else...
@@brandonk1502 A song _is_ more useful than contemptuous youtube comments, so she's got that going for her.
nothing can ever hope to match the greatness of 1990's music..... :,,(
Derrick La Saga, the 90's did produce some really awesome music. But so did the 60's and 70's. Don't discount the music from those eras so easily.
Derrick La Saga this music is better than lady Gaga or anything now!!!!
Deerbeer Busch why Lady Gaga? There are so many great artists out there but to satisfy your pretentiousness, you don't look beyond the Top40s.
Same with the 80's!!!
My favorite Jewel song & one of my favorite's of all time. As a Humanist Buddhist, I love how she sings WE are God's eyes & hands because WE are God, the spirit of love & kindness inside all of us and how we interconnect. Opposed to something that's outside of us. My daughter's middle name is Jewel, named after the singer & also because it does with her name, Crystalinda - that means "Beautiful Crystal" in Spanish.
Yilmaz - Language!
nice comment i´m from chile big hug...bye
Wow! We see there's no class in that category.
Your taking it out of context, we are gods eyes and his hands because we are made in the likeness and image of him. Not that we are literally him der duh der
lucaboden because she wants to feel "accepted" in society. Sad!
I love her... She's a saint in my book - a divine princess.... If God was here as a lady, she would be her... She's my inspiration in a world of fading light waiting for the sunrise...
❤
Jewel is so strong. I love that when she went for it, she went all homeless.. and she made art like this. Just beautiful.
I too was homeless. It was tough at times but I'm glad you were able to make it out. No one should have to go unloved. 💖
I miss this era... I miss this music... When everything is real, raw, and honest.
90s music had soul
This song and foolish games are my favorite of jewels. Phenomenal gripping melodies with excellent lyrics. She inspires so many of us. We love you Jewel!!

I heard this song at the shops the other day and remembered it being played to us at weekly reflection and religion class at my Catholic highschool here in Australia. I remember the teachers telling us Pope John Paul loved the song and we would reflect to it. I honestly was too young and immature to properly understand the meaning of the song but now, wow what a message. Can't believe she wrote this herself at such a young age.
I had no idea pope john paul loved this song 😊😊
nothing like 90's music ... i swear.
+Amy Piedra Except 80's music. I miss that even more.
+Amy Piedra agree, 90s best decade.

Funny thing is Jewel was legit living out of her car for a while, majorly legit.
scorpiomaj27 yes, she was. Her and her whole family were until she was around 14-15. She said she was discovered at a coffee shop.

@@widdershiznit it's a metaphor !
Just heard a excellent story about Jewel. Apparently when she had no health insurance she got sick. She was living in car and thought she would die, she was very poor and they refused to see her. A doctor did see her and gave her medication. She would have died. Then after she got famous her mother stole most of money. She kept going and is doing well in life now. Such a humble and sad story, but never give up life. God bless people who are struggling.
These lyrics!! I mean you don’t hear music like this anymore. Love Jewel.
Nice comment hello Jennifer how are you doing
yes , is true ...
It's earnest, honest and simple.
It's true a lot of the music I hear now has a lot of swear words in it
This song is divinely inspired for sure. Therefore will always be relevant.
It’s a harsh world we live in. Absolutely love this song
The single most important song of my childhood. When I first heard this, it was during an exceptionally tumultuous and dangerous time in my home that ultimately ended in tragedy. For comfort, I’d listen to my local light-rock station at night, and every time this song came on, I’d become transfixed upon it. It deeply touched my heart and helped me process my emotions in those dark times. On a musician’s note, this song really sealed me into valuing F natural minor as my absolute favorite chord/scale/key signature. Now, every time I hear anything rooted in F minor, I immediately gravitate toward it.
Music has that effect on our souls. I am uplifted into heaven every time I hear Bach's Minuet in G.
this song has helped me to keep going when things seemed most hopeless....
Australia?
Things... for lack of better words, happen... we learn and grow. And heal. And help others to learn and grow and heal. The hardest things In life happen, sometimes, to the people who have had the worst things happen to or around them. I am sorry for your pain. (Past present, future) I hope life brings you joy, For all of eternity. If no one has said this lately... I love you 💙
I hope things are better for you now. This song has also been a blessing for me. Bless you. ❤
Who else came here from JRE mystified by how powerful her story is? This is some raw shit that just hits different now
The 90's were big on emotional music. Great decade.
I know! Jewel, Martin Page, Des’ree, Seal, Alanis: they just don’t make songs like they used to.
Don't forget Grunge with Nirvana, NIN and AIC. Darker emotions are emotions.
It's crazy how God puts people in your life, even though it's for a second. I have been struggling with anxiety and depression and I walked into the grocery store "broken", but God put the grocery store clerk in my life for a reason. She asked me if I had heard this song and of course I replied yes! She started talking to me about what lyrics meant to her and I was in "awe" because that's what I needed to hear. May God bless her today and always. She made my day for sure!💕
That story sucked.
I liked it
She was not homeless lol this was her 4hth mega hit . She's comfortable living in Calabasas
I think the point is that Jewel was drawing on the experiences of her life when she wrote the song. She may have been rich at the time that she wrote it but That Will never erase the time when she was homeless.
God doesn't do it. It's just chance. When I worked at the children's Cancer ward at my hospital I knew 100% there's no divine and perfect entity watching over anyone. And If there was and that entity had the tiniest bit of mercy these innocent children would not be suffering while so many scumbags walked unharmed.
This song was with me throughout medical school, post graduate training and now that I am teaching medical students. So relevant through all phases ... Thank you Jewel Kilcher.

I think this song is fitting for what’s going on in the world today
Right? We can all do something. Even if you're stuck in quarantine (HELLO from New Orleans!) but you can still donate blood, donate money, donate time if places like second harvest are still taking volunteers in your area. Raise money for things like diapers. Or even just checking on your neighbors specially if you know they are elderly. If we all do a little something, we won't be broken.
I literally JUST had the same thought. Be safe all love from NYC. 🙏🏽
Ya
This song is always fitting
💔 just shared this video for that very reason. GOD in heaven forgive us our sins. 🙏
Jewel was poor. Her and her mother lived in a car for awhile. She had faith and God answered her prayers. God bless Jewel for giving us this beautiful song...
Her mom abandoned her when she was small and she never lived in a car with her.
@@angelamarie4137 Her parents got a divorce in Alaska and then she moved San Diego where she was trying to sing and she was working another job and her boss tried to have sex with her ... She refused and he did not pay her and hence she was living in her car cause she couldn't pay rent then her car stolen and had nowhere to go ! She started stealing things, food mainly and wanted to steal a dress that was $40 and thought I have to change and wrote this song about her hands stealing. Cheers
@@zxbryc move on to what?
@@zxbryc Oh really.. I guess that answers it all. Some random person on youtube claims to know the answer to questions unanswered throughout humanities existence. Get over yourself. You don't know whether or not God exists, and that is the truth. How absurdly delusional can you be.
A Cry! For Meaning. Valid Truths - in the face of ignorance. But The Cry! For Meaning still persists. "Make Sense of all this! Though I curse it." "Reveal YOURSELF! Though I deny your Worth." "Comfort me! Though I refuse you yours." "Though you have never been Real to me, 'LORD'.... Please, HEAL my soul." This is pain. This is emotion deadbolted and forgotten. This is a Cry Out! For Meaning. Whilst denying the Possibility of Meaning. Wishing still, there was Meaning... Where no Possibility exists. But, of course, these thoughts could be misplaced. We're stumbling through the darkness.... Looking for A ROCK -- to call -- HOME BASE.

PRAYER IS A MAJOR THING THAT WE ALL NEED TO DO.. IN WHATEVER WAY THAT WORKS FOR YOU, YOU CAN JUST THINK PRAYER, HE HEARS YA, GIVE IT A TRY, YOU CAN DO IT. IN THIS WORLD, WITH ALL THAT IS HAPPENING WE HAVE GOT TO LEARN TO HELP EACH OTHER, IF YOU'RE NOT, START... THERE IS MORE TO COME. SO FOR ME, HAVE TRUST IN WHAT I SAY WHICH COMES FROM GOD TO SHARE IT..LOOK, I AM JUST A PERSON OUT HERE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING PERFECT-- NOBODY IS! BUT WE ARE LOVED. FOR SURE! Well, that was debatable in a capitalist West. In a Trump-lead America, kindness is a weakness and will be exploited and profited upon..
However: his hands are small, I know. But the are not yours, they are his own...

Hands for fixing everything that is going on right now... So true that “in the end, only kindness matters.”
Lost my husband this year to cancer. Watching the person you love get taken has a profound effect. This song reminds me of the journey i took with him, the small kindnesses of strangers, the trauma. those brief moments and flashes of spiritual openess and the strength I needed to hold in order to to try and protect and carry him through. It reminds me to stay strong and that "we are never broken"
Praise God and God bless you 🙏 🌹
*When this song was released most people slept on it because everybody was expecting a big comeback song... instead we got the song we needed but just didn't know it. In fact less than 3 years later, 9/11 happened and the world fully understood the full impact of this brilliant gem. God bless you Jewel for sticking to your guns and releasing the songs you wanted to make! "Hands" is so beautiful and profound it's practically a Gospel song and perpetually relevant!*
The theology in it is spot on. Truly a beautiful message from an angel.
Absolutely so well spoken 👏
I agree when this song come out in 1998 I was 9 and I loved this song when it first come out listened to it over and over agin But yes today’s the song fits with everything that happened over the years with 9/ 11 when 2,977 people where killed it was tragic and still remembered till this day . And Then 18 to 19 teen years later Covid 19 hit and every thing was shut down and every one had to stay in quarantine and Covid killed the most people worldwide That was one of are most biggest tragedies I guess god was telling us something the whole time.
There's no end ,we live for infinity.so kindness is all that matters .God can repair anything 😀

"Poverty stole your golden shoes, not your laughter.." greatest lyric in this song. difficult but truth. This woman's talent makes me think of that Journey song, "Girl Can't Help It." She is drop dead gorgeous, strong minded but yet soft-hearted and gifted. Even read her book of poetry. Yes, in the end kindness only matters right along with love, because ya'll that is all there is. Love behind eyes...
This song makes me think of my niece because I wore this CD out and she liked it so much I gave it to her, but she passed away in 2003 @ only sixteen...such beauty from the inside to the outside gone from the planet...love, love, love to Rachel...

….an Angel from Heaven walks amongst us …I love this beautiful lady from the north 🎶🙏🏽🎶
We sang this song at a party. Because I was in the Navy. As a religious singer for the troops who are currently at war because of COVID-1. I need prayer as much as we all need. Jesus please hear my cries because I needed a hug from you. My mom said good luck at my best. God is good. Amen.
Still one of the most beautiful and truest songs of all time. "If I could tell the world just one thing It would be that we're all okay And not to worry 'Cause worry is wasteful & useless in times like these... In the end, only kindness matters... We are never broken."
I will get down on my knees. I will pray.
What a strange world we live in. Tragedy brings out the best in us, it reminds us that we are all connected, we forget about our material desires and our love flows through us and we help each other without question. I wish we could be like that all the time.
You said it brother .... if only
If only we could be...I couldn't agree with you more. It brings to mind a now very popular quote of Ghandi...Be the change you wish to see. Like Jewel says/sings in the end only kindness matters....
We are all born enlightend We just get distracted to easily and for far to long and the road back is a place not to many people want to travel because of fear of them selves and the reality that the world their dreams created is slowly tearing apart the same world needed for the next generations of the enlightend . Some dreams should stay dreams. Our Pride needs to take a back seat
***** It also brings to mind another Ghandi quote, my personal favorite, "Poverty is the worst form of violence."
SirGooglinMort Smith , I know you wrote this several months ago, but I find it beautiful and profound. May I use it as my sig as long as you are credited?
Dawson's Creek - 1998 (2x5) I just saw it and listened to this song and started to remember that year... beautiful times 🥰❤
