Lee.. I am a KZhead junkie and have completed hundreds of projects after having watched thousands if not tens of thousands of videos posted by numerous KZheadrs but I have never, ever seen anything like what you have offered here. You are an amazingly organized soul and your willingness to share that is incredibly generous!! You deserve a standing ovation. I went looking for a simple video and walked away with the Encyclopedia Brittanica of Wind Chimes, you are a master craftsman and I truly appreciate your art. Take care Jeff
Jeff, Thank you for the kind comments. I guess you could say this is just the way my brain works. We're all wired differently and I need to do things in a logical fashion. Besides that, this keeps an engineer off the street. 😊 Best of success with your chime project. Lee
@@LeeHiteVideo Yes , I was supposed to go out somewhere and could not put off watching this . You really just blew my mind ; thank you so much for all the work you put into it ! ... plus you are so straightforward and humble ; sometimes a rare thing on the internet in this age of narcissism ... but it is such a BEAUTIFUL thing to see ... BLESS YOU .
@@gardensofthegods Hey thanks! Just trying to make sense of it all, as the saying goes.
I was thinking the same thing.. let’s make our wind sing the notes of life itself!! Thank you Lee. God bless you
I had no idea that chimes were so complicated. I thought(incorrectly) that you could just hang tubes and call it good! This is possibly the most detailed tutorial in any subject I have ever watched.
You are the grandfather of wind chimes, this calculator is invaluable!
Thank you so much. Now I am kicking myself for giving away old copper pipe from the bathroom renovation. I just hope I have enough left out the back shed to have a go at making myself a chime, and that I can achieve something even a little close to this standard. My siblings used to call me a daddy's girl as a kid, and I have definitely turned into my father. If he were alive now and saw this type of demonstration on KZhead he would be amazed and impresed, as I am now. This quality demonstration is most inspiring!
The best instructional video I've seen on any subject. You've not only shown us how to make a wind chime, you've also shown how to make an instructional video. Five stars for editing, script, videography, clarity, comprehensiveness, attention to detail and especially, generosity. Thank you.
Thanks, sorry about the choppy video. This is a one man operation and I am not a very good video editor. Glad the video was useful.
Everything about this video instruction is excellent. Not only the presentation and the detail, but the knowledge that you pass on in your spreadsheets is a model for how to instruct. Thank you.
Thanks for making the video. My dad asked for a set of Corinthian wind chimes for Christmas. I stumbled on your site when figuring out what exactly a Corinthian chime was. The fact that I can make it myself is that much better. I need to get started only have a few days left to get it together. Thanks again.
Best of success and let me know if construction issues come up.
I didn’t make it very far before the first issue. I will be making a 44” copper tube type L 1.5” diameter in the scale of C. I see you have listed the notes for the Corinthian in C @ C,D,E,G,A and C. Using your diy calculator for my given tube size it shows if I started at C3 the tube length would be 45 3/4” do I then go down to D in the same octave meaning D would be a length of 43 3/16”? Would that mean the last C in the scale would be a C4?
@@simplytodd4155 yes, you have it exactly correct. Occasionally a chime set will bridge between two octaves.
Ok got it. Your website is a wealth of info. Thanks again.
I hope they turned out perfect. thanks.
I was going to refurbish (for sentimental reasons) a set of copper chimes my late father made. They sounded good but were primitive to be sure. Now, after watching your video, and appreciating all the technical engineering you contributed to it, I've decided to adapt his materials and upgrade the design following your plans and suggestions. A most fitting way to honor my Dad on this Memorial Day; he was a two-year combat vet of WWII. Bless them all!
We're you able to complete the upgrade of the chimes?
William , please tell us did you finish refurbishing your Dad's copper chimes ? My Dad was also in WWII but was in the South Pacific . Yes bless them all they were a great generation of people who had class and I've never met one who ever took a cheap shot at others . They weren't whiners and complainers either it's just incredible how Americans have degenerated into big babies who want everything on a platinum platter yesterday
You are a legend!!! Every video I see on YT, you have done most of the heavy lifting.
I appreciate the time you took out of your day too educate us.....☺️
My brother and I made Chimes for a all of our siblings and parents (and in-laws) many Christmases ago. This year I want to make another for an amazing friend, I was searching everywhere for your video I'm so glad to have found it again. Thank you so much, I truly love hearing the beautiful chimes we have made under your direction, so do our loved ones. May your notes ring loud and clear forever. Your attention to detail on the subject matter is astounding. The Bob Ross of Wind Chimes. Thank you.
Love the simplicity old school as myself ,the tools the idea the good results-amazing !
Thank you for making and publishing this. I am making steel c4 wind chimes and couldn't have started without your wonderful tutorial.
Great, let me know if issues come up. Best of success with the project.
You are a pure soul. Thank you very much for sharing this precious knowledge! You deserve more subscribers.
Love the detail. For center hung chimes, I use the wire part from paper binder clips (you get two from each clip and they come in different sizes). Tie the support string to it, squeeze together and push into the pipe. push it down and rotate until the ends pop into the two drilled holes. It's nice because if for some reason you need to re-hang the chime, the ends just push back in and you can remove and redo it.
How AWESOME of you to do this and share your info!!! I am a chime-a-holic and have always wanted to make my own GIANT chimes for a tree in my yard. I will post when I do it.
you are amazing and have blown my mind. Thank you for the in depth rabbit hole of Windchimes. I am making a few and have inspired me to do art. every day I work on it a little. thank you so much for not restricting your intelligence for us, heavy but simple subject. super happy man thanks. subbd. learned so much about something I knew nothing about. My tones sound great the chart is amazing man. so smart. appreciate you.
I've been wanting to get a set of large deep wind chimes for a long time and a friend challenged me to make a set and I found your website. Great job and very big thanks for sharing the information and all your work.
You sir are very thorough! Absolutely loved this video. The content was great but your execution was amazing. You knew what questions and surprises may come up and included the explanations and possible solutions.
Your attention to all things that make a chime function and sound beautifully is admirable.
Thank you for your site, what an amazing job who have done Mr. Lee, I have always wanted to build wind chimes... nothing is more pleasant then sitting on my back patio during a soft rain storm and hearing the wonderful sounds, I can't wait to get in my shop and see what I can do.
Thanks Lee. A great in depth lesson. Your a excellent teacher.
Thank you, Lee. This is more of a workshop or course than a typical youtube video. I have made a couple of chimes from an old copper pipe, just spitballing with my basic skills. It is great to learn master techniques. Thanks again.
Absolutely love this! Can't wait to get started...
I think you need to expand into demonstrating to everyone who post videos on KZhead how to do it right, amazing.
Thank you so much. Your work and willingness to share is inspiring .
Thank you for generously sharing your research and development.Very clear and concise.
Great Video Lee!...Sharing all your hardwork is very unselfish. Thanks so much. This will take a lot of guesswork out of making wind chimes...Best regards!...
I have used your predetermined charts for four chime sets. The special advice about support disks and strikers is valuable. I have used salvaged material, mostly EMT tubing. All chime sets have worked nicely. Currently embarked on a set in conjunction with my granddaughter.
Thank you so much for this information and fascinating how-to. Very inspiring, too.
An incredible resource! Thank you for taking the time to help DIYers out.
So many awesome informations. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for taking the time to share your vast knowledge!
Have been designing my own set of chimes using the information you have on your web site and just stumbled on this video. Your web site is an awesome resource for someone looking for the design considerations for chimes. Thanks for all the work you put into that resource.
dang Lee! just plain all around awesome .. the website is a goldmine! God Bless you sir
What a wonderful resource. Thank you.
Thank you for ewery minute you invested in research and experiment in the making souch a beatiful chimes and let it avaliable for us. You are great sir, hats off !!!
Thank you for the very detailed explantion !! and thank you for sharing sooo much information , here and in your website !!
This is a fantastic video. Extremely thorough.
Amazing! I guess I was expecting a more 'how'd ya do that?' video but found myself thoroughly intrigued by the technical aspects that you have already calculated and made easily available (bless you!) so even I can make a tuned chime set. This means there *is* a pleasant, profound way to utterly destroy the incessant clinkety clanking sounds of the neighbors' tacky chimes of glass (for crying out loud!), ceramics, forks n spoons = teeth-gritting shudders 24/7. Bwah ha ha ha!! Thank you!
You're welcome and yes, we all want to avoid those annoying chimes made from a variety of items that go tinkle tinkle. :)
Now that was a very thoughtful instruction. You anticipated all my questions and left a good trail of bread crumbs. I’m definitely going to give this a good ‘ole try this summer. Thanks very much.
This is incredible, you've saved my project! Fantastic Excel documents too, I hugely appreciate your hard work.
You're most welcome and this is was one of the original intents of the internet, sharing ideas. Glad it helped.
Thank you Sir. I admire the rare degree of care and level of detail that you’ve included in this presentation. I feel privileged that you have shared your own research with us. Thankyou.
Thanks for the info. Excellent and informative video without the obnoxious and distracting music that some people seem to think is necessary to "make a good video".
You're most welcome. Happy it has been of some help.
Wonderful Resources! Thank-you!
Drilling them in the sweet spot will make them sustain longer. And the type if string type and length is also important.
Best chime diy video ever watched. Very scientific and detailed
This is so detailed and very informative. Thank you!!!
Thank you Lee. Great instruction.... I’m gonna build one!
Wonderful. Distant chimes are to love. A 3 inch diameter chime would be fantastic.... Thank you for sharing.
Incredibly informative.
So nice of u.Provided so much detail on the website.
Awesome video! Thank you so much for doing it and for the website too.
Thank you for the resources
This is great information. Thank you for making this video.
Thank you so much for this video! And your website is so helpful!
Thanks for this Lee! I just finished my first, and while I can clean it up some, I love it and had lots of fun! I see a drill press in my future...
What a great educational video..such an excellent teacher..thank you.
Truly inspirational. I have sourced several 10 inch used circular saw blades to hang chimes from. Cheers from Downunder
I have a brand called Jacob's Ladder that my mom bought in old Sacramento in about the mid-'70s, maybe; 1 1/2-2 feet tall overall. Has a sustained and sweet sound. They don't do the larger ones anymore. So happy I found your video what a treasure. Like an answer to a with I made.
Thanks for the chart-I've made several chimes for X-mas presents over the years with it.
Awesome instructions and great detail and presentation! Thanks!
Absolutely great and comprehensive! Many thanks
Awesome tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to upload this video and for sharing.
That was a fantastic tutorial. My heart goes out to the birds that try to nest in a wind chime though.
Thank you, Mr. Hite for this most excellent tut on making wind chimes. I have been wanting a "bassy" wind chime (similar to church bells) for some time but they usually run $200 and up. A bit steep for a yard decoration if you ask me. I have always known I could make a good one but did not have the design details. You have provided it. Thank you.
Your'e most welcome.
You said it "dude"... These larger bassy windchimes (especially if tuned) go for $600 and up... You make and sale enough of these beauties , you've made ur house payment. Problem now days seems like this younger generation doesn't want to work for their money. Such a shame if you ask me. This man has done all the musical, chemistry, metallurgy, and probably some biology right here for anyone to use !
Fantastic video, thank you sir.
This was a super informative video. Thank you.
Very informative. Thank you.
Very very concise and organized instructions.
Thanks. I always looked for were to buy these wind chimes to no avail. Right now I have made several wonderfully sounding wind chimes for my home after going through your website and videos. God bless you.
Thank you for this very educational video with web link. Watching it gave me confidence I could repair my two wind chimes. I also subscribed to your channel and clicked the bell so I would not miss your forthcoming videos.
Thank you for your great job!. fantastic
Thank you for showing!
Super cool video! You are quite the craftsman. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This is great information. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise.
Thank you for the kind words and glad you can make use of this information. Making wind chimes is a great home activity in light of the pandemic. Best of success. Lee
Amazing video. Thank you for sharing this information.
Thank you for sharing. it is such a great resource to learn.
I just finished cutting my 1" (type "L") copper pipe for the C4 version of the C9 chord. This is such a great resource Lee. Many thanks to you for all the hard work and for your kindness in sharing this with everyone. Once I'm done with the C9 chimes, I plan to try your calculator on some Solfeggio frequencies. This is a lot of fun and even may end up producing some unique Christmas presents for a few family members. You have surely spread a lot of joy to a lot of people...very nice indeed!
Hello Freddy... I want to build some chimes to play along other instruments. I tried to determine the note of the chimes on the video, but... to me, at least, they sound like F#4, F4, F4, F#4, and F4. Am I missing something? have you compared your C4 to other instruments?
Thankyou a million times ove!!!
Thank you so much 4 this 🥰 im getting ready to make a bamboo chime, going to make a metal one too now 😄
Very impressive and thorough research Mr. Hite! I only wish other people who post "how to videos" would take note and work to be more factual and accurate as you obviously have. Well done!!
Thank You for wonder full tutorial especially the calculator ! Many many thank You ! :)
You're welcome. Glad it was of some help . . .
This man is a genius.i want to make one so bad
Just amazing video instruction, so much information I have to re-watch and take notes. I'm going to attempt an oxy steel tank, solo chime.
Greetings from India.Thank you. Regards.
Wow, such resources. Thanks very much
Thank you, that was a wealth of information.
Were you an engineer or scientist? Luv your well-conceived, thorough diy wind chime tutorial. Noy only did you save me 500 bucks for a store bought bass wind chime, but you introduced me to a new hobby with endless creative ideas. Grateful...
Glad this information was helpful which is why I did this. I am guilty thought of being an engineer by training. :) I hope your new hobby has much success, chime are a lot of fun . . .
Lee Hite , wonderful and informative video, on this subject-matter. I appreciate all your precise details on wind chimes. Sir, have a blessed day.
You are THE MAN!
This is fantastic information. Thank you so much for sharing :)
Awesome ! Thanks for sharing Mr. Lee Hitr . :)
excellent work sir!
I never knew it was so scientific. Awsome.
Thank you very much to explain with details how to make a chime. I would like to learn with you, but I live in Chile. I will keep this video.
Excellent videoThanks for sharing
Wonderful tutorial.
Fantastic information. Thank you very much!
You're most welcome
superb work. thank you
Excellent video! I'm looking to make my own doorbell chime, that can also chime on the hour using some solenoids for striking and an arduino to drive it. Love how you get into the science of how to cut the tube to the right length to tune it, and what the different types of metal sound like. Really appreciate that you took the time to make this great video.
Thanks Kevin, glad to hear the site has been useful and best of success with the doorbell chime project. Lee
