  • I think the thing that stands out for me is how smooth and relaxed this operator is and that’s just got to be skill.

  • i find with new guys they constantly dg from the bottom up... instead of taking the trench down in stages. it just means a cleaner trench and much easier on the machine. its kind of like when shovelling from a pile of sand, you see people taking every shovel from the bottom and lifting it into the barrow. might as well take it from the top while you can and go straight across to the barrow... hope that analogy makes some sense

    • Especially when doing larger and wider cuts , say your cut is 15 feet deep and your scooping from the bottom every scoop it’s as if you were cutting at 15 feet the entire time if that makes sense

  • Thanks for sharing. I have been renting minis for awhile for work around the farm. I had no experience or training and recently was curious about my technique (or lack thereof) figured there would be some good KZhead info for technique and this one is great. Awesome how smooth and precise you are moving in and out of the trench with clean up along the way. On my property I can't touch the soil without a bucket full of rocks, from gravel to mommas that are easily 600-1000 lbs or better. Great help, thanks.

    • How would you recommend digging a basement that's roughly 35x40. I have 2 proficiencies to pass. 1 is digging a basement in 2 hours and 3 spill piles but all 4 corners exposed. Then digging a V ditch which you explained in one of your videos already

  • you need 2ft minimum from edge of trench to edge/beginning of spoil pile. 6" is not adequate or legal. Don't train to keep your spoil too close to trench!!

  • Hello Barry. Thanks for your “how to” videos. I got a upcoming digging project: Its a 9 deep trench ( about frost in the Yukon Territory) around 30 feet long, and around 2 -3 feet wide for a water pipe to a new house. To make it as (worker) safe as possible, how you would dig that? I thougth to make a slope all the way down to the bottom. I have only a Massey Ferguson Backhoe to dig. Thanks in advance. -Joseph-

    • Rules have changed alot since this video was made back then unless someone was going in the ditch you could have the spill right next to it.now it must be 1.2m back everywhere.

      @manhoer@manhoer Жыл бұрын
  • Well OSHA regs. say your spoil must be a min. of 24" from the trench....and speed is all of it combined...or your "cycle time" ( from bucket dig position in trench to dump and back to that position you started ....usually around 9 to 13 seconds

    @danielwhite4825@danielwhite48257 жыл бұрын
    • Daniel White in Alberta Canada your spill must be 1m back from the edge of the ditch but only if someone is going into that ditch in this video I am digging mainline ditch where no one has to enter.

      @manhoer@manhoer7 жыл бұрын
    • Barry Kozdrowski that's not entirely true. Also depends on depth as well. But yes for a trench like you are digging you could put your spoil pile right on the edge if you wanted. That's oh&s we not have osha or msha up her

      @Deere2154D@Deere2154D6 жыл бұрын
    • depends on the size of the machine as to 'cycle time ' .. my smaller machine is way quicker than 9 seconds.. depending on the type of soil/depth etc... and who gives a fuck about ohsa regs..

    @steviemotherfuckinv6374@steviemotherfuckinv63744 жыл бұрын
    • When this video was made you only needed 1m (3ft) in areas people were going to enter this was mainline ditch so it was not necessary. Since then rules have changed and now all spill must be back 1.2m (4ft) from edge of ditch in Canada.

    • Barry Kozdrowski right know im grading for a street that’s 800Ft i could keep grade if i had a string line on both sides but they haven’t put the grade stakes yet so i have to follow the grade in front of me thats below the existing concrete whenever i do follow it, it seems my grade starts to come up im trying to keep it fairly even, thanks for replying back.

    @marc-andrebelanger4649@marc-andrebelanger46498 жыл бұрын
