    • But still it is narrow mindedness or shallow thinking (no offense), imagine you could spend the fraction of that money on feeding or helping needy children or families, probably that should give you more satisfaction because you can help people who really will bless you.

    • @@TheSharmaFilms sorry but that woke mindset is very shallow. Nothing wrong with spending money for your own good. You can do both. Spend on your own hobbies and needs while helping others. Non of those are exclusive to each other. Narrow-mindedness is assuming people who spend on themselves only spend on themselves.

  • I’ve been collecting watches for over 20 years and have gotten comments/questions only four times. Once wearing a Rolex Kermit (vintage aluminum bezel); another was when wearing a Tissot Racing T-Touch; Omega Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup; and a metal G-Shock. And the G-Shock was the best conversation. So 99% of the time, people don’t know or care what’s on your wrist. But I wear them for me, not for a conversion starter.

  • I’m not at the point I can afford luxury watches yet, but I did treat myself to a new pilot watch to celebrate my leap from a soul crushing job at the postal service to starting flight school. It makes me happy every time I put it on and it keeps me motivated on my journey towards my dream career as an airline pilot. The large dial and simple design stands out too compared to more typical dress or dive watches, which tends to spark conversation. That’s great for me because the stereotypes about pilots are true. The only thing we love as much as flying is talking about flying. 😅

  • I don't have a Rolex, but I know I had good sense of pride and accomplishment when I bought my first automatic watch. It was a sense of pride in that I now knew what an automatic watch was. It was also the culmination of saving up for it on a limited budget and then being able to buy it in cash. It's my daily wear piece and I always enjoy looking down at it on my wrist. So yes a thing can bring me happiness, but it's because of the experience surrounding the thing for me.

  • This is a really good video and definitely on the spot. 👌🏼 My first luxury watch was a Omega Seamaster 300M - I bought it because I reached a milestone, it still in my collection, even if nowadays I don’t wear it very often. Then two years ago my next one also a Omega, a Speedmaster for the next milestone. And last month I gifted myself with a Rolex - it makes me happy because they also remind me where I’m coming from and what I’ve reached. They’re also pieces of personal history. So I absolutely get your point. Conversation starter? Sometimes…, because most of the people don’t really recognise what kind of watch I wear and most people just simply don’t care. Sure, it depends on which company you are in at the moment.

  • My father gave me one of his Rolex watches after I went on a statewide manhunt to fix his 1970’s breitling datora. The Rolex he gave me was an oyster perpetual date (not datejust) with a white Buckley dial. It’s unassuming and very classy. I swapped out the oyster bracelet for some leather straps since I like to have fun with it. Does it get attention? Sometimes. Usually an old timer that notices the magnifier will ask me about it. Sometimes a woman sees Rolex on the dial will comment on it. Would it have been the kind of Rolex that I would’ve picked out for myself? No, but it is a gift from my father that I have grown to love through building a relationship with it on my wrist.

  • I tried it with watches and cars. It’s only a moment of happiness at the time of buying, but after that you get worried about taking care of it and you wanna get rid of that burden by finally selling it. So basically you knew you can do it, you got the “good” feeling and got it out of your system and no longer desire it.

I showed him my Timex Expedition. He was shocked that I wore a $35 watch when it was clear that I could afford any watch on the market. I replied with a quote from Warren Buffet: "I don't need that to validate my self worth". I expanded that by saying the $35 watch kept great time, was good to 35 meters (in case I fell off my boat), and I could buy an exact replacement almost anywhere when the battery went bad or if it became damaged. The same couldn't be said of my Brietling (which was a gift from my wife).

Luckily, there is a British trained tailor about an hour away from me. 100k - A watch. My wife and I want to go to Switzerland for vacation some time, and that's where I'll get that special watch. It'll be from a little shop on a Swiss town. Not a name brand like Rolex, Patek Phillipe, or Swatch. • I do have 2 Rolexes (Submariner and GMT Master 2) and an Omega (Speedmaster Professional). Each of them were aspirational pieces and marked specific times in my life, achievements and career goals. Each of my watches gets worn and used on a regular basis and I plan on handing them down to my daughter one day. You’re absolutely right that the ownership of my pieces in and of themselves does not bring me any extra happiness, but the memories and pictures of events with those specific watches does. Snorkeling in Hawaii with my Submariner, business trips with my GMT. Driving in wine country with my wife, with my Speedy. Looking back on those memories brings me so much happiness. It is a reminder that I have such a fortunate life and not to take anything for granted.

I take pride in looking sharp on a dime, finding a bargain and getting compliments for actually using my brain and thinking my outfits through. Following your advice on how to buy a few pieces and get 100s of combos from them. I have a Fossil watch and a Citizen Eco as my EDCs, both in steel. I still have my watch from the military and it works great. Its a Timex in black from the 80s. Also have a vintage real gold Timex big face winder for my vanity watch. Have had it since college and works great. Only I know its real gold, most people smile and say “Cool watch, have you had it for long…”

For example, I’ll be in a conversation with someone, and the person I’m speaking with will notice my Rolex, and all of a sudden become more interested in what I’m saying. Even more, the next time I encounter the same person, they will often notice that I’m wearing a different Rolex (I own 4 Rolexes), which fantastic for business. They idea being that when you can wear different Rolexes each day, then people definitely want to hear what you have to say. Im a Rolex enthusiast, but they are also excellent business tools.

My point is I enjoy the hell out of these watches and I only paid a few hundred quid for. My advice is it doesn't matter how much it costs as long as you love it and you paid the right price for it. • I think that luxury watches are obviously like great jewels, and being an indivudual that is really passionate about the watch world, there are three ways to live this world: first, if you want a watch that makes your life better, then I would buy a Garmin, because it helps you in so many ways that is incredible; second, for you the watch is a great jewel and has great value for a sentimental point of view, and so you collect them or you look for a rare piece to add into a collection; third, you use watches as an investment for the future. For me an important jewel like watches must be important and I would never sell it, because its value goes over the simple money factor. P.s: if you want to impress a woman, you can do it with a Rolex, but maybe Breguet or Patek Philippe are even better.

  • I know I commented lots before, but all bants aside I’ll answer things properly. So I remember when I bought my first lux watch it was a seamaster and I loved the bond link ever since I was a child so I bought it and I felt great. I then went onto buy a new Aston Martin at 27. I felt like bond I was shaking for a week before getting delivery of the car. I got my first Rolex when I was 29 and it felt great a proper aspirational piece. Then it all went strange. Since then I’m 34 I’ve had multiple watches now worth way more than the Rolex, and other nice cars. Im totally numb now to them now I get the next watch and im thinking about the next one and then the next one. 6 Rolexes in im Hoarding them they are pointless. I can’t remember the last time I felt a buzz for anything bordering on a feeling of loosing my purpose or my value in life. It’s strange because you can objectively look at how far you have come and your “Better” but still you loose that feeling I describe it as a child on Christmas morning when you really wanted a present and you would be looking forward to that thing you asked for weeks before it. That’s where middle success sucks, anything you want within reason but not enough to go buying lots of super cars and stuff your kind of trapped and it’s depressing.

  • FYI never take a Rolex off in public. You can accidentally leave it in a restroom or be a victim of the switcharo! If you must take it off get in the habit of putting it in your front trouser pocket. I’m speaking from experience. I was lucky and got my watch back. Will never make that mistake with a Rolex again.

  • $30,000 on a watch?! Ridiculous! I’ve still got my Fossil watch that I spent less than $200 on back in college. I get compliments everywhere I go. That’s good enough for me. My work in the community and seeing people thrive is my reward. I don’t need an expensive item to prove my worth.

    @NewCreationRedeemed@NewCreationRedeemed Жыл бұрын
    • Your $200 fossil watch is more expensive than that 12k Rolex. That fossil will eventually break and be worth nothing, you will have spent $200. With a Rolex it will last for ever, and continue to increase in value. To each there own, but just because you don't understand something or aren't into it that doesn't make it ridiculous. I would encourage you in life to keep an open mind.

    • @@NewCreationRedeemed that's great, and I hope you get 20 more years of use and joy from it. However, it's not worth anything. A $200 through away item is more expensive than $20,000 asset that increases in value. The watch you are saying is ridiculous he could sell for a solid proft if he wanted to after years of use. If you don't understand how that is better financially it's all good brother.

    • @@rickyromano6659 With the deep financial depression that’s coming, actual gold and silver, food, gas, clothing, etc will be the things worth anything at all. No one is gonna give you $30,000 worth of goods for a watch. People are going to become a lot more discretionary with their spending. I suggest you do the same.

      @NewCreationRedeemed@NewCreationRedeemed Жыл бұрын
    • @@NewCreationRedeemed you think we are going to be on barter and trade system? OK, well I hope you have a good bunker with lots of dried non-perishable food and access to water lol. If what you are saying is true then money won't matter anymore and we may as well blow what we have on the things we want now while society still existsl. Also, we may have a global recession, maybe, but the economy here in the US is actually pretty good, that is why we have been having inflation, lots of demand, people have money and jobs, but there have been supply chain and manufacturing shortages which has driven up costs of many items, including essentials like food. That said companies just started reporting their q3 earnings and so far the consumer is holding up way better than analysts expected. B of A and Wells Fargo had an amazing quarters with great deposits and strong customer savings. Society and capitalism isn't ending buddy. And again, if it was your paper money or digital currency wouldn't matter anyway, so you may as well buy what like or take that vacation if you really believe that. Lastly, I save and invest around 70% of what I make for the last 10 years, and live well below my means. Buying almost any Rolex at retail is one of the best and safest investments you can make. Rolex has beaten the S&P consistently for the last 20 years. Probably a huge waste of my time, but hopefully this helps you or anyone else reading this.
