The welterweight division of the UFC was once dominated by one, Georges Rush St-Pierre. During that time, the Canadian made easy work of most of his opponents and embarrassed them in the process. Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, B.J. Penn, Josh Koscheck, Nick Diaz and Michael Bisping are some examples that we're going to take a closer look at, what they said before and after fighting the greatest to ever do it.

  • GSP is the best to have ever fought in the UFC. Never ducked anyone, never shied away from opponents he wasnt so sure he could beat, always put himself in a challenge even though he might lose, never afraid to fight bigger opponents, and was the first to advocate serious drug testing in the UFC.

    • @@austinbatton4849 Thats not how the UFC works..... Its a changing sport, like Georges said himself, if the sport was stagnant it wouldnt be popular. Fighters come in, have succsess and it grows. People bring in new techniques, new pratices, new fighting styles and win and they inspire the next generation to build off those. Even he said he cant compete in todays UFC. Theyve gotten so much better. That said, to judge a fighter based on whether they would be successfull today is ironically a backwards thought process. Micheal Jordan cant be the GOAT, he played 25 years ago, Babe Ruth cant be one of the GOATs, he played 100 years ago. Disounting guys accomplishments by criticizing their era doesnt make sense. Context matters, and Georges took on the best of the best, he was PFP for most of his career, constantly defended his belts and the 2 times he lost, he avenged his losses in dominant fashion. Dont let the out of ring stuff distract you from how great he was in the ring. I personally dont think the UFC can have on singular GOAT because of the tons of factors that go into how great a fighter was, like how good the competition was, how long they fought for, how many titles and defenses and so much more. Along with all that, he was a quality person in and out of the ring. He was dominant in the ring without all the nonsense and trash talk, he respected his opponents, he put everything on the line, he fought the best, he worked his ass off and so much more. When another GOAT candidate in Khabib says GSP was his inspiration, you know you did something right. I do think George is a top candidate in that debate, and thats for a reason. I think Khabib and Jon Jones belong in that debate too among some others, though JJ might not be the best person or example outside of the cage. Both Georges and Khabib showed you can be the best without all that Bs.

GSP not only avenged his losses, he left absolutely no doubt as to who was better. Constantly improving, beating wrestlers on the ground, beating strikers on the feet, not to mention coming back after 4 years and dispatching of Bisping despite basically having diverticulitis.

  • The one thing George had going for him that people never bring up is he was just a nice guy. He was terrible at trash talk. He only got into it a little bit to try to sell fights because he felt pressured to do so. Now when you do that and you go in and fight, it's a lot less pressure which causes people to relax me personally with the experience I have fighting anytime I was supposed to win or anytime I was hyped up. It's a lot of pressure but George always went in as the nice guy with nothing to lose necessarily. That's huge
