MST RMX 2.0 Aluminum Upgrades!! | Installing a Ball Diff in the RMX 2.0 RTR

After breaking my MST RMX 2.0 RWD Drift car last time out, something I thought would be pretty hard to do, I had to start looking for replacement parts. I thought about just replacing it as well as looking for upgrades but parts seem to be hard to find for these cars right now. I really wanted to upgrade since the plastic broke so easily but couldn't find any metal outdrives anywhere.
I found a complete ball diff set for the MST RMX 2.0S, and I think it should fit. This is the first time I ever build a ball diff so its a learning experience for me. I hope this video helps out anyone else maybe looking for parts like me or has never built a ball diff before. Time to get back out and practice sliding some more!!
Hope You enjoy the Video!

  • I just put together a 2.0S. That differential was the most intimidating part of the entire assembly. I just used a toothpick with a good amount of grease on the end to pick up those ball bearings. I built the entire chassis up to that point, saw that diff, and stopped for a moment. I walked the dog, vacuumed the house, did the dishes, and cut the grass, to mentally prepare for the coming frustration. Luckily, my experience with real cars paid off and it went together in one shot. The only problem that I had was that I didn't tighten the two ends together enough, ended up losing power to the wheels and blowing my spur gear apart. But I stole some things off my RTR to fix everything.

  • I’ve had this idea for a while now and I plan on doing it with my car. But you should make some intake holes on your corvette body (like the full scale turbo holes) and have piping go from them to your esc fan. Idk how well it would help with cooling but it’s something to think about

    @ashermorales8276@ashermorales82763 жыл бұрын
    • Not sure if it would help with cooling but it would look scale, I plan on making it a little more scale looking.

  • Any tips on tightening the diff up? I currently got it that when you press the throttle and hold one of the tires it barely applies force to it (while hold the tire with the hand) soon as you let go it spins normally. Dunno if its too loose atm 🤔

    • You can try to put as heavy fluid as you can find, 1 million or more. The heavier the fluid the better

  • got a question man about the no prep drag scene . is it always on 2s and if so is it always the case where you must use a sensored set up. reason i ask is i get amazing throttle reaction on my slash drag build with a 3s lihv with a sensor less hobbywing 5400, 90 spur/23 pinion, but with my 2s 100 c zeee battery i get a cogging launch/ delayed response. this leads me to believe that i have to get a sensored setup to get the launch i need. my question is do most leagues follow the 2s rule or do some use 3s. also if i start a league using 3s sensor less am i making a mockery of the hobby. thanks

    @chuckpg31@chuckpg313 жыл бұрын
    • All No Prep class rules I've seen limit the battery to 2s. I'm sure you could run in a outlaw class or something with 3s. I thing 2s just keeps in more competitive and even.

  • This same exact thing was happening to me in my fwd drag car but I’m not gonna have those problems anymore (hopefully) because I’m building a whole new chassis that’s gonna have the common 3 gear transmissions in no prep cars. Edit could you link me that diff kit. I’d like to get a couple for the chassis that I have right now and I’d like to still use that one as well

  • With the ball diff installed can you hold one wheel/tire and and spin the other? Or is it still locked like the stock spool diff?

    @brokenhondagarage7462@brokenhondagarage7462 Жыл бұрын
    • You are able to spin it like a normal diff or you can tighten down on it to lock it out actually.

      @FullThrottleRC@FullThrottleRC Жыл бұрын
  • Hi can you use the 13/40T gear that come with the diff set? I am going to get one but someone said the gear need to use back the original

    @eddietsang2274@eddietsang22742 жыл бұрын
    • I showed the back and forth I went through in the video. If I remember correctly I had to reuse the original gears.

  • Does it matter if the slits in the out drive cups are perpendicular to one another?

    @HighhScore@HighhScore2 жыл бұрын
    • Not really, when the diff actually spins it's unlikely it'll stay that way. I just built it that way because I'm a little ocd 😬

  • What difference did you noticed with that ball diff vs the spool?

  • I really am tempted to grab one of these kits, but the build of that ball diff and thrust bearing looks intimidating....I can see myself losing one of them tiny ass balls.

    @DOFIXERR@DOFIXERR2 жыл бұрын
    • It really wasn't all that hard. I took my time with it being it was my first time building one. Just make sure to build it over your worksurface so if any of the balls fall, they won't be gone forever!

      @FullThrottleRC@FullThrottleRC2 жыл бұрын
    • @@FullThrottleRC Thanks! That is good to know. I will definitely be ordering the kit for sure. The price of the kit is fairly cheap!

  • I tried building this ball diff and when i installed in car only one wheel spun. What did i do wrong?

    @MrQueezyFBaby@MrQueezyFBaby3 жыл бұрын
    • You may need to tighten it down more. Sounds like the diff is slipping and only allowing one wheel to spin.

  • Do you know the difference between RMX 2.0 RTR and RMX 2.0 ATR?

    @bkirkbir@bkirkbir3 жыл бұрын
    • I believe the ARTR is just a RTR with a clear body. So to make it RTR you just need to paint the body.

  • no diff tightness adjustment?

    @howintesting940@howintesting9407 ай бұрын
    • With the ball diff, the adjustment is done by how much you tighten the screws on the diff. I actually didn't realize that at first and couldn't get the diff to budge at all and thought I did something wrong.
