Brilliant shot, but I cannot help but wonder why the pilot refused to land knowing his craft had been hit. He had time and plenty of space to land and the control surfaces all seems okay.
I doubt his controls were working to allow him to land.
Maybe he wanted to land in friendly area
I think he lost control already he slowly let it drift down but then kaboom
I think the pilot was out cold. We cannot underestimate the internal or proximity shock wave from what appears to be a small surface explosion
my thoughts exactly
I’m impressed with how long it managed to stay in the air after that hit.
és a végén ott volt a jól bevált vágás a videóban....
Normally every helecopter does that it's not like instantly any aircraft will crash after being hit
@@Sumeetracer really! It’s normal? Tell you what, you link me all the choppers that took a direct hit and stayed airborne for nearly a full minute afterwards and I’ll link ones that weren’t so fortunate and let’s see how normal it is.
It did stay up in the air for quite some time. Anyway huge mistake by the pilot thinking he could fly it home after a hit like that instead of landing immediately.
@@Bajtjr That's why i feel sad for him, he had ample time to save others if they were there. The worst that could happen is they surrender but in one piece
I am actually impressed for how long the helicopter remained in the sky
If the pilot didnt bring it back he had to pay for it.

@@markovovchok6767 The flowers are sunflowers growing Russian graves.
Whats the name of this song mate? Do you know maybe:-)?
there is a song in the background. Something like this: Ivan, get up, what is it? Prepare a package for yourself! Ivan, get up, don't run! There is nowhere to go!
At the end in Ukrainian means Bitches so it is welcome to Ukraine Bitches
That chopper took that hit like a champ.
Now it's just a piece of junk with a very dead crew.
he took that hit like a IDIOT . Land and escape, but no, the pilot wanted all dead!
You MUST be commenting about a different video otherwise your comment makes no sense whatsoever
I see a lot of post about how long it stayed in the air, it's possible that the pilot was rendered incapacitated by the impact, it's also possible the pilot though as long as he continued forward progression that the flames would go backwards and spare him. My grandfather was in the army air corps during ww2 and it was something that pilots often tried . He said it wasn't very effective but every now and then it worked.
Song?? 🙏🏻
The pilot made a controlled landing approach. Couldn't set it down softly enough. There is a another video that shows the approach.

I don't think the pilot was dead on impact. The helicopter pitches upward significantly right at landing. It looks like the pilot is trying to perform an autorotation (helicopter emergency landing procedure). While it could just be coincidence, it would appear that the pilot was consciously flying the helicopter. My question is, why didn't he put the damn thing down sooner?
I mean if you just got shot, it probably isnt safe to land there.
Irrelevant, got what they deserve.
Probably wanted to get out of the Hot Zone... not to be captured. Bad mistake, death was instead..

@@dachinjo2119 They both have MI8s
Good job guys! 👍🏼
This is likely a case of ghost flight - a moment of flight when the pilots are dead yet the aircraft has enough momentum, control, and lift to remain flying for a period of time. There is a similar more common occurrence during World War II where many pilots in the pacific and European campaigns ran out of fuel after extremely lengthy missions and would just ride the wind as their engines turned off midair, their courses could be held for quite some time, usually up to around 100 miles away. This was however what tragically led to many soldiers ending up as POWs during the war.
This is not the case. First of all, Helicopters are not like that. planes? Yes, but helicopters require constant adjustments and control from the pilot. This added to the fact that you can visibly see the pilot making adjustments such as the pull up at 0:57 it is clear the pilot is still alive.
@@tethryss5001 flight controls have advanced considerably, you would be surprised. But I agree after watching it a few more times, the pilot is likely conscious trying to land. I doubt any of them made it out unscathed. When it tipped over many of them if not all of them likely died, if there were even others inside.
@@liamwilson7549 What likely happened is that the pilot upon getting hit, immediately dropped the landing gear as is seen in the shot. Then, he tries to begin slowing the chopper in order to land, but his decreased ability to control the helicopter causes him to be incapable of a safe landing. This leads to him frantically trying to raise the nose of the chopper to slow the vessel down, but in doing so, he stalls the helicopter, and thus after the cut he buries the nose into the ground. Likely, the pilot was not very experienced considering what we have learned about the Russian Airforce.
The last sentence reminded me of the last shot of Dunkirk when the pilot gets captured after gliding without fuel.
MI 8 does not have retract gear. It has fixed. You can not "stall" a helicopter. You just loose forward flight and the helicopter settles into a hover. What can happen is close to the ground is what's called vortex ring state, where the rotors are flying into the rotor wash effectively loosing all lift. This helicopter was under control all the way to the end as you can see pitch changes in the rotors. He hit the tail on landing causing the torque to flip the helicopter over and break apart.
I flew in MI-8 and 17s all over Afghanistan. I knew they were tough. I just didn't know they were that tough! I get the feeling if the crew wasn't dead, the skipper was just barely conscious. There was certainly enough time to put it down.
Nah Probably dead stick

Might be tough to get out after you've been hit in the face with a missile.
They are ruskies....everything is possible
I'm pretty sure they did, but being engulfed in a fireball makes piloting a helicopter a tad difficult, I'd imagine anyway...
I thought the same. I'm guessing the crew didn't realize how bad the fire was and thought they may be able to get the crippled bird back to friendly territory before putting her down (after all, she still had at least partial power and seemed airworthy for the first while). It was a costly error in judgement.
They were burned inside while the chopper is still on the air.
