Battle Stations: B2 Bomber (War History Documentary)
With its origins in single wing experimentation carried out in Germany in the 1930s, and continuing through cutting edge aviation research in the 1950s and 60s, the B-2 was developed under a cloak of secrecy.

  • Shortly before his death, Jack Northrop was given clearance to see designs and hold a scale model of the B-2, which shared design features of his YB-35 and YB-49. The B-2, for example, has the same 172-foot wingspan as the jet-powered flying wing, YB-49. Northrop reportedly wrote on a sheet of paper "Now I know why God has kept me alive for 25 years". B-2 project designer John Cashen said, "As he held this model in his shaking hands, it was as if you could see his entire history with the flying wing passing through his mind." Northrop died ten months later.

  • Pretty crazy the design has been around, and flying, since the 1940s. The Northrup guys were geniuses.

    • @@omegal9344 Well, that's what I don't get because the only reason the Americans were first with a piston engine flying wing was because they ordered the German prototype destroyed for exceeding post WW1 airplane limits. The Germans did manage to get the first jet powered flying wing.

  • As I recall...a PRESIDENTIAL speech announced the existence of "...a plane that can evade radar". My father and I were watching the speech and looked at each other and said, "Oh great...why would he SAY that?!"

  • The mig probably didn't know you guys were above him because he was busy being chased by the FAT eagle on his ass ready to shoot him down. The F15 saved the B2 mission that night.

    • That is indicative of the rapid advance of technology in the Western World. This type of weapons technology won't be used against any third world state unless they are rogue states. But in a full blown nuclear war against either China or Russia, I am sure America including its allies, does not take chances; it will use all weapons at its disposal for its own security and the freedom and security of the free world.

    • @@levylacambra9510 The problem is that the biggest threats to freedom and security of the free world are the countries that are not prospering. Countries that would get devastated by the cheap and rugged A-10 Thunderbolt II. Meanwhile the US is hopelessly buried in debt because it keeps trying to fight a future war with a 1st world nation.

    • @@Edax_Royeaux To understand the situation please revisit the history of the ist and 2nd world wars. It is always a phenomenal consequence to invest on research specifically on weapons tech because we can not wars with outdated weaponsysyem my brother. You have to be 1 or 2 steps ahead of your enemy; it is not the third World countries that are fueling world crisis but it is China. This is my personal conviction: it could be excellent of only we could meet personally and have a healthy argument on the issue. Thanks

If you think that these hit the US hard, wait till you see the next ones! Already, the Trump administration is trying to stop the government from serving the American people and to concentrate on serving the MIC and the corporations, and it has only just begun!
