Lennox had one thing right, time would improve his legacy. He is still the last undisputed Heavyweight champion nearly 20 years later. Mike Tyson is a pop culture icon here in America, but real boxing fans know that Lennox Lewis was "the man" of that era of heavyweight boxing.
Lennox dodged no one... and smashed everyone... Tyson was great to watch... but he wasn't technical like Lennox.. so once Tyson hand speed went .. he was gone.. Lennox had a long carreer cause he had shape and style to last imho Also, as that coach said.. Tyson wasn't a fighter... he was no Gatti/Ward.. he didn't have the heart to get up like say Tyson Fury.. to get over an obstacle. Once Tyson started to lose... he always lost.. In his prime though Tyson was unbeatable.. a monster... Lennox was a monster too.. not as spectacular .. but less flaws and longer lived...bit like comparing pacman and mayweather. Bit unfair to tyson .. Tyson was front loaded... so if you could last through the initial tirade... and the longer the fight went on... the better your chances... Lennox was consistent.. loaded front .. middle and back
ybet1000 Tyson beat many many opponents much bigger in size. You have to give the credit where credit is due.
@Scalping Forever nah, real boxing fans laugh at tyson fanboys and their excuses, to me Lennox was the best hw I have seen
@@ybet1000 Tyson wasn't technical? I agree in his later years he turned into a flat footed head hunter, but in the 80's he was a monster; go watch his old fights for pete's sake
@@BOZ_11 In his day he was unbeatable. His speed... I watched him... become champ.. even his punches.. when landing sounded different.. But that speed was also saving him... and once he lost the speed... he was gone as he wasn't technical..ie.. he did the best he could with his style and shape etc.. but a big guy... 6.8 to 7 ft.. with a great jab..and a bit of movement... ie a fury, lennox, urkainian brothers etc.. will last alot longer.. they can lose a bit of speed and still be unbeatable .. tyson was a "shooting star" like roy jones junior etc unbeatable until the speed is gone ..then not technical enough to keep the show going..
Lennox is a class act. Sensible dude who knew how look after himself in and out of the ring.

@@SDiskic And he has still "all horses in the stable".

Lenox didn't want to show up all those years.
I totaly agree. He was a phenomenal boxer, he's articulate a gentleman and yet he's underated still.
He was one of the best, but he never fought guys in their prime. Always older fighters. Mercer- 35yrs old, Holyfield- 36 n 37, Tyson- 37. Who did he fight in their prime? Morrison who likely had hiv by then? haha. AND, knocked out, flat back, twice. So he's not the best ever, but he was very good, still.
@@hw5091 Ali is regarded as the best ever and he lost 5 fights. So Lewis getting knocked out isn't that big of a deal. You look at a boxer's entire career as a whole when they retire, not cherry pick a couple of their fights to belittle them. This was a great interview, Lennox is a nice humble guy. It would have been great to have shown a few clips when he talked about various fights. I'd love to see him back in the ring again for a charity event or something.🥊
The rematch against Rahman was one of my favourite fights.
Lennox Lewis deserves to be considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all time imo. I don't think people realize how great he was. This interview was very well done. The interviewer had immense respect for Lewis but was not star struck. He asked pertinent and germane questions throughout the interview. Lewis trusted him and while responding to his questions was candid and honest. One thing Lewis said about what it takes to be a champion is a very strong chin is necessary. This is absolutely true. If you can't take a punch well you will never be great. This attribute if a person has it cannot be trained for. It's a physical gift. All in all this is one of the best boxing interviews I've seen.
Absolutely one of the Top 5 heavyweights of all time 💪🏻🥊🥊

Probably the 2nd best heavyweight ever. Peak Ali probably finds a way to beat him, but no-one else. Louis was vulnerable to a big hitter, and Lewis was always at his most dangerous against guys who could punch. Lewis retired rich and healthy, and has stayed retired, rich & healthy. Admirable!
The boxers of Ali's era wouldn't stand a chance against the likes of Lennox, he's George Formans size and power with smarts and skills to match his own including the greatest jab in history, there is nothing Ali could do to seriously harm him. You can maybe make a debate for whos got the best career but not about the 2 in a face off

That Lewis Bruno fight shows that you can't hook with a hooker, but you can jab with a jabber. Bruno wasn't as talented as Lewis, but he was faster and had his own jab, so he caused Lewis many problems. Lewis is definitely in the top 5 heavyweights of all time!
Bruno was terrible and his style was horrific. Bruno was one jab and grab . One jab an occasional right hand and grab . He was so frustrating to watch .

Lennox Lewis is my personal goat. Such an inspiration
The first heavyweight in the 6'6" range to be able to move and box instead of just using the height and weight as an advantage, 2 losses by lucky punches and an absolutely banging record with a list of who's who on his resume. Top 10 for sure!!
He answered every question asked of him in the ring and has always been a totally class act. A real super star.
Top 5, at the very least. Other than that, I agree with everything :) Lewis was and still is the first real prototype of a modern day heavyweight boxer: ideal height, weight, athleticism, speed, power, strength, stamina, and even (the so often criticized) chin. I absolutely loved his fights later in his career, when he hired Steward! The balance and movement coordination which the legendary American boxing guru instilled in him and then honed to absolute perfection was simply phenomenal for such a big man in the ring! No awkward, clumsy, unnecessary movements, everything calculated literally in miliseconds and milimeters, every single action, move, punch or step with a clean purpose, no wasteful movements whatsoever. Simply almost professor-like, noble, highest possible art of heavyweight boxing! And he could adapt, even when things weren't going his way. He could be just as brutal and quick with certain opponents as he was tactical and patient with others. And just as you said, the guy's faced everyone. The only two boxers that could come close to him in terms of having that label of "modern day heavyweight" were the Klitschkos, but even they were inferior to him in almost every of the above-mentioned aspects, especially Wladimir with his questionable chin and heart. Vitali was way better in these two crucial departments, but we all still know how that fight with Lennox ended... And the brothers' resume of opponents and defining fights, even when combined, doesn't come even close to that of Lennox, though that's naturally not entirely their fault. True that Joshua and Fury both beat Wladimir, even if an aging one, but the former has meanwhile been badly exposed to Ruiz and Usyk, whereas the latter is still too inconsistent in his fights and preparation, despite still being unbeaten and recently doing his third number on Wilder, who's nothing more than a decent puncher that, boxer-wise, doesn't even come close to Klitschkos, let alone Lewis. So all in all, Lennox has all the reasons to stay comfortably in retirement and watch the father time do him justice.
Tony Tucker could as well, he moved really well, but he wasn't as good and nowhere near as powerful.

The man that Mike Tyson paid money not to fight.....
Yep, Mike wanted absolutely no smoke with Lewis, he even said when he retired ''I could've never beaten him (Lewis) He's just too big and too strong.. a masterful boxer'' Mikes own words. And most Mike fans complain that Lewis only fought Mike when Mike was finished in 2002, but that was because Mike had dodged him for 6 years since '96 when he gave up his WBC belt rather then defend it against Lewis when Lewis was mandatory.
Yeah and then they did and lewis knocked him out. Sick to hear peoole say about their "peak" buisness. People forget lewis is younger, and lewis was just as dangerous in his prime. Difference is tyson was moved differently and his story was more controversial
