The Soviets based the BTR-80 on the BTR-70 APC. It has a 260-hp, V-8 turbocharged, water-cooled, diesel engine. The reconfigured rear portion of the hull accommodates a new, single engine. The Soviets removed the roof chamfers of the modified BTR-70, raised the rear, and squared off the rearward-sloping engine compartment. Standard equipment include TNPO vision blocks, optical devices TNP-B and TKN-3 for the driver and commander, an OU-3GA2M infra-red search light, six 81mm smoke grenade launchers 902V "Tucha", a radioset (R-173 or R-163-50U), an intercom and hydrojets.

i was 11 years old when sited on the chair and pressed the button. BTR-80 the best!
That is the most beautiful piece of machinery I have seen. Hard to believe that this thing was out before the USA Striker, yet the BTR seems just as good if not better. I would love to go off-roading in that thing. I think I would trust my life in that APC more than I would in U.S. Apc. Great Video,. I hope to see more video footage of this APC in the future.
Looking at this 13 years later, you might aswell be dead (in which case I am sorry), but if youre alive you know how the BTR is doing in a certain eastern country..
@@RhaegarDefense not like the Striker did any better in the Middle East...
@@RhaegarDefense Like the bradley is doing any better lol and it's not even an apc like the btr but an ifv
This and the BMP - Masterpieces of Soviet Ingenuity! And the Hind - What a BEAST!
that wobble is the barrel resonating upon being fired and cycling, if we are referring to the same thing. if you pause the video, you will see that it returns to the original position in time to fire the next shot as for not being able to hit a skyscraper - 2:42 now, about 3:12, notice that the vehicle is initially climbing the obstacle by scraping the overhang. it impacts the obstacle with the body. notice on the preceding clip where it's driving over rough terrain the gun is not wobbling.
Question: Was the BPPU always stabilized (when it was first fitted onto BTR-80A) or was it stabilized later?
Magnificos vehiculos de combate los mejores👍👍👍🇷🇺
Nice!
Bangladesh Army is the 2nd largest operator of BTR-80 after Russian Ground Forces. 1025+ Proud of Bangladesh Army.

Abi türk müsün ?
I've heard from a US Army officer a firsthand account from a Georgian army officer. Apparently in a battalion-sized night attack on entrenched Russians, US-trained Georgian troops inflicted some 180 Russian casualties for a handful of their own. Its quite impressive to chew up two whole infantry companies in one night.
@erer270 Dear erer270! Could you please explain your point of view? What's remarkable BTR-90 has to make it the best ifv? Thank you in advance.
Best APC to date for versatility.
Halt schwienhundt, you're forgetting the updated ceramic armor, and counter blast plates and the totally awsome air conditioned troop quarters. both are NBC capable. I think I'd still take the striker over the bimpy or BTR any day
If anyone's wondering, song is Der Dritte Raum - Hale Bopp
Front two axles turn as a unit. The vehicle is 8x8 with runflat tires and I believe centralized pressure controls. Its quite mobile.
one word : BEAUTIFUL
Thanks :)
Whats the mine/IED resistance like for these BTR? Flat bottom looks soft.
Awesome music and awesome APC :)
IDK but I love the song, it matches to the video and the BTR is absolutely classic :3
NICE! i thought this thing only carried people and thats it, its like a fortess on wheels!
what do you guys think about btr-82, is amazing and the best too
omg the BTR is so fucking cool. Especially like the firing ports, so nice
This APC looks not only scary .... better you fight whit it not against it. very nice movie
barrel bounce? what exactly are you talking about? if you are referring to the 30mm barrel resonating upon firing, that is not special or unique. the M2HB has the same "issue" the only difference being that it is less visible on it's comparatively shorter and under less stress barrel. furthermore, have you observed that the barrel retracts backwards upon firing almost as if into a buffer system...
may i ask what tires the bdrm-2 use play and thanks
Super video! Very interesting!
Cool machines 👍
Wikipedia. In Russia btr-60 (2000) btr-70 (2000) btr-80 (3500-4000)
To penetrate the hull on an Abrams from an RPG requires multiple shots in the same place. It doesn't even destroy the tank it just penetrates the hull.
@MuffiiinMan that model does not have anything(as far as i know) other than the drivers forward viewing hatch(open) to stop water coming in in a steep drop like that
Nice video, BTR's are awesome.
i can't say for sure, but i would imagine yes because the purpose of the BPPU was to address the performance deficiencies of the BPU, one of them being the lack of stabilization which made it hard to fire on the move.
I totally want on of those! Santa might have a hard time delivering it though...
the btr is a pretty good idea, for probably a cheaper cost you can create a vehicle capable of matching a tank but better with infantry support tactics.
From 3:33 and on it is BTR-90. You can recognize it by the absence of windows on the front.
actually, they do. depending on the exhibition, which is usually done as a competition of designs for possible purchase, but most of them have the vehicles and weapons crewed by the potential buyer nations own crew unless specified otherwise and ammunition used is the training or live ammunition provided by the country, unless they have none in stock
Can it out turn and out burn a stryker or The Pirannah.
The huge number of weapons systems is a liability in itself, each increasing the technical skills needed by the gunner as well as his maintenance tasks. And you're right, survivability is -not- a feature of this series, which is made more crucial given the vehicles high threat profile.
@patrikasLTL Which are miniature BMP-3's, or vice versa, carrying only a handful of dismounts. Not being better than the Stryker, I don't see your point in mentioning that. Yes. Russian infantrymen are issued shovels and would likely dig foxholes rather than sleep in pup tents during the night. The Kornet, being a crew-served tripod ATGM, could surely manage that. Javelins, being man-portable, is issued to the Anti Armor Specialist in each of a Stryker rifle platoon's three squads.
Still one of the best!
one badass machine
@123A1231 They also had the first man in space! Thats a monumental archievement!
cool vehicle.. the music matches to the apc :3
Very good video man!
as for the remote guns, you are right, they are remote operated, but that also means that they are remote fed, meaning that they have to be reloaded from OUTSIDE of the vehicle, as opposed to the russian BPU and BPPU turrets that have an internal ammunition feed, capable of the exact same performance and optics with a better field of view. The new BPPU is stabilized which some RWS are not and it carries multiple weapons, not just one.
BTR-80 is fucking gorgeous!
@zerocker45 That's right: it was the first and probably the only encounter of the MRAP type vehicles with APCs. As I've read MRAPs were doing better in the mine war. Well, it was primarily designed for.
Yep, some parts of latest Boeing Dreamliner are made near Yekaterinburg, Russia. The designing of this plane was also outsoursed to Boeing's Moscow design center.
@Alexander1068 wtf is the btr-82?
@dekster14LP No. Generally speaking not all 8x8 chasis are from Tatra. :-) Or more correctly, only Tatra 8x8 chasis is Tatra's. Others are not: on BTR-60/70/80, Piranha, LAV, Stryker, Puma, BTR-4, Patria, you name! :-) Thank you.
You can't compare the vehicles, since they are armed in entirely different ways, designed for entirely different roles, and at vastly different levels of electronic sophistication.
! круто
that apc looks cool
and to add to that, the BTR at least has a back up 7.62, which the stryker doesn't and has the ability to add a 30mm grenade launcher too. plus the ammunition feed for the 30mm or 14.5mm and the 7.62mm and even the optional 30mm grenade launcher is internal, meaning no unlucky bastard has to climb up on the vehicle to replace the spent ammo box and belt every 50 or 100 rounds.
if anyone wants to know the name of the track (since i searched for it) -> Dr. Kucho - Hale bopp have fun :) and yes, BTR 80 and all other russian military vehicles kick major ass ;)
Увлекательные туры по Европе на танках!!!Солярка наша, впечатления ваши, отправка по мере комплектования батальонов...!!!
Google for Stryker criticism. The family simply doesn't do what it was intended for(and the whole idea was flawed to begin with): 1) It has no strattegical transportability advantage over Bradley or even Abrams. 2) It is not protected against any kind of threat except firearms. 3) Modular system doesn't work because conversion is too difficult in the remote theatre(may as well bring Abrams instead of MGS). 4) Low TechSpecs of the LAV chasiss. And that is only the begining.
hi Petteerr, whats the name of the song? its really cool, thank you
At 1:44 did that BTR sink? it went in and didn't come up
I have seen on youtube, even roadside bomb in real combat could not destroy BTR-80. it made BTR jump for about 100 cm but it carried on driving, good machine I wont one!
Nice vid
the Patria AMV is arguably the best western 8x8 APC currently available. in terms of how it compares to the BTR-80, it is probably a a little better, though how much dependent on the version. it has a very powerful engine, is amphibious (unless you get the heavy, non-amphibious version) has a fairly spacious troop compartment and when they say it is modular, they are not lying. what it lacks, in the APC version compared to the BTR-80 is armament and that the hatches are a little awkward.
In my country they dismanteld a lot of this things, i liked them when i was a little kid, they are pretty fast , saw one on the street roaring along at night, u just don't see that today now.
@goodluckpeace44 It has V shaped bottom so it has big chance to save the crew
still does not account for the substantially better accuracy demonstrated in this video at the time frame i mentioned and it still doesn't account for inaccuracy on the tender, since later on in the video the BMP-3 demonstrates almost the same level of inaccuracy as the BTR-80A
True =)
Hi, could someone tell me how much it costs the currently BTR80
about the only thing that can compete in fuel comsumption with a '68 Cad 8.2litre lol... buy bloody hell, its worth every drop!! Amazing... the APC totaly made the movie AVP-R worth watching ^^
@patrikasLTL I wouldn't make such broad comparisons. The BTR-90, for example, might be more powerful than a Stryker ICV. However the infantry squad carried in the ICV is not only larger but carries the anti-tank firepower; a Javelin ATGM. You couldn't say the outdated Konkurs SACLOS system is greater than fire and forget Javelin, could you? Or that a Russian dismount element of conscripts which doesn't have a radio is more tactically alert than LandWarrior equipped professional infantrymen?
cool music i like it
nice music!
@GoldenZealot21 You were referring to dead soldiers, but in my post I was referring to casualties. I don't imagine the Georgian troops were better armed than US army units.
I Adore It!!)))))It Looks cool!!I saw the inside-it has special holes on the sides to Fire from them with a gun stabilizer!!)))))) What's the name of the track??
WHICH ONE IS BETTER BTR OR THE STRYKER?
Nice. I really prefer the BTR-90- more electronics, armor and much more firepower. Hope it can be put into mass use soon, but it dosen't seem so, unfortunately...
indeed, and you know what you can also clearly see? that that's a LAV-25, a vehicle some 4 tons lighter than the stryker.
The BTR-80 should be called the Honey Badger. "Oh, look! There's water. Honey Badger don't give a shit!" I mean it even looks like one, haha. :D
бэтр 90 офигенен)
I wouldn't mind having one of these during a zombie apocalypse...
"Rameriz! Take down that BTR with your throwing knife!"
what is the music please?
Der Dritte Raum - Hale Bopp
what track is about...the first 10 seconds of the vid? it's not hale bopp, it's easy to miss the transition but it's a different track
Maybe BRDM-3 or BTR-82
Is the undercarriage design based on a tatra truck?
no, they take their own personnel, give them some basic training, often at the hands of the actual demonstration crews (in order to assure non-biased testing and how well their own personnel adapt to the new machine) and they use ammo they procured and tested (also, to ensure unbiased testing and have a basic benchmark)
@SpaiderChief actually the US military has some really good APCs and IFVs e.g. strykers and bradleys
I wish the US would just by some JUST to try it. Yeah it's not stealthy, but it goes everywhere and is heavily armored. It's a beefier LAV3. The stryker is a piece of crud compared to REAL wheeled APC's like this and the LAV it's based off of. Not to mention that the Stryker's armor is only 'resistant' to 14.7mm gunfire. Meaning two or more of these and you're a goner.
they ride atop because of land mines. Having single entry behind as in Bradley has is more trap.
The side exit door for the infantry makes it inferior compared to the Ukrainian version of the BTR which has more sensible rear opening doors for infantry exit.
the best apc from this world
not to mention that the BTR, for all it's flaws is far more maneuverable than the Stryker, since it is more stable, has wider tires and is amphibious, making it a more tactically and strategically versatile vehicle. in terms of armour, the stryker wouldn't survive particularly more if anything more than a BTR-80 would anyway, so your point is moot.
They do have top hatches . Back hatch would be nice though , but it's technically impossible ,cause engine and gearbox are in the back .
@YellowBigLemon Which Stryker? The MGS? The ATGM carrier? The mortar carrier? The Mk19 ICV? The M2 ICV? The recon vehicle? The ambulence? Sure, its better at blowing up a hard target than the Strykers which aren't designed to fight hard targets. But against the MGS or ATGM, the scenario plays out quite differently. Or the recon vehicle just lases the BTR for an Apache; the real tank-killers in the US army. Its apples and oranges.
Its also a troop transport? Thats epic!!!
You might be right, but from what I read today there has just recently been a big revamp of how the Russian eng. industry functions. Something about unifying these large industries under one federal one, this is mainly in the aerospace sector but Im sure this will also include others. Interesting thing to note is that a Russian aerospace company supplies Boeing and a dozen other aircraft with precision titanium parts, so the there is def. no qaulity issues with the Russian eng. industry.
cool
Music please?
the stryker is kind of, sort of, but not really derived from it. add the Patria AMV to that list, though it has the same problem of RWS instead of a proper weapon turret as most other modern western 8x8-s APCs. still, it is easily the best western Armoured Modular Vehicle in terms of overall performance and has a LOT of variants.
Does anyone know what the music is please?
