That's about right. I liked that the 2014 movie gave the universe a nice setting and build up (needed more G-Man though) so I'm more lenient with it since the last time we had a Godzilla movie(1998) we got a train wreck. So 6 or even a 7 would be fine with me as a rating for 2014.

What I think sold the fight scenes so well is that you could actually feel the animosity between Kong and Godzilla. They were tearing each other apart, every blow was a killing blow.

That’s the problem with all of these super hero movies and Captain America Civil War is the only movie that actually took that into consideration!!! 😂😭 Edit: There are other movies that had similar plot devices like this, but Civil War was the only one I could think of at the time. I did like the deaf girl's connection with Kong and the other researcher lady, I think that is the only human sub plot that was necessary for the film.
SPOILER WARNING: Agreed the team Kong human characters contributed a lot to the film's plot. Where as the team Godzilla humans, except Bernie, contributed nothing of significance and value to the film's plot aside from glitching out mecha Godzilla.

Godzilla 2014 had the best tone. KotM had the best monsters and soundtrack. GvK had the best action. Skull Island, John C Riely totally owned that movie.

I didn't liked this scene, lol I cheered for Kong and this moment kinda felt like a slap to my face. Godzilla indeed built a better "brand", quite literally. Kong was the pioneer, but Godzilla solidified the image of "king" better than Kong (after all, the japanese made like 50 movies featuring Godzilla)

And thats why I almost loved it... until Millie Bobby Brown (character in Godzilla vs Kong) and her 2 other companions are on screen...the moment I saw them, I knew this movie was going to take a negative hit....
I thought it could be good, but it was stupider than WW84. WW was worse movie, but got damn this was stupid. I love AJ, but he always initially overhypes these garbage CGI fight scene filled movies. 7/10? This was 3/10 at best, but AJ doing his man of Steal, and BvS and original Justice league, and infamously even Transformers 2 thing, where he loves these garbage movies just because it delivers some action, but if hindsight opinion on that doesnt age well, he comes out with new score like he knew all along these movies sucked, like who are you kidding. I love you AJ, but man you and your movie reviews kill me. We had 2 movies here, one movie about Apex, intriguing plot but incredibly stupid and annoying characters, and the other movie is Hollow earth - somewhat intriguing characters, but incredibly stupid plot. Godzila and Kong are fighting just because of movie title, what was their motivation to fight each other - their ancestors fight in the past, thats it. And these kind of movies just do not work with todays technology, I am sorry. Beside dark neon look that got old after 5 minutes, CGI doesnt sell it, I not once believed 2 giant monsters are destroying a city. To begin with there were only few shot from people pov, but effects are bad. Golden standard for these movies is Independence day - because you believe in effects, they destroyed real models, you were looking at real shit getting blow up. But now everything must be CGI just because its easier, this movie might just be an animated film. This movie tried to be Pacific rim, but ended up being Pacific rim sequel at best.

All I wanted in a Giant Kaiju Vs Film. The Battles were well choreographed & Hype, the monsters showed emotions but not in an overly cartoony hyperbolic way & was just a fun time AND I Loved that there was a clear winner, no beating around the bush this time.

I personally wanted the movie to explore Kong's loneliness he seemed like he really wanted to find more of his kind in the Hollow Earth. Kong doesn't want to die alone and seeing an empty room with nothing but Skeletons would have been an emotional moment for the film.
Ahhh...but because we saw *No Ape Bones* , gives hope in the future that Kong might find more of his kind.

That's not really true, if you've seen the previous reviews they strongly disliked how the movies had excellent moments but were severely lacking in any extensive monster fight scenes
The previous monster verse movies that is, so it's fair that when assessing this movie that would be one of the main things to desire

SPOILERS: I really liked the direction they went in this movie. It was like Rocky I only with monsters the size of skyscrapers. Just like Rocky, Kong is the underdog in every sense of the word. He gets his ass kicked in every single encounter with Godzilla but every time he's knocked down he gets back up again. I especially liked the scene with Godzilla standing over Kong roaring at him, with Kong who has been defeated roaring right back at him before his heart begins to stop. Man, now that Kong is in this universe and teaming with humankind there's so much goofy shit they can do in upcoming sequels. Imagine Kong only outfitted with man made armor and a big fuck off two handed battleaxe.

There is a lot still on the cutting board that wasn't explained and hopefully at some point we will get more of an understanding of how the titans came to be, the rivalry between Godzilla and Kong (maybe in another film) but still, awesome fight scenes, writing can always be better with these kind of movies.

One of my top problems with this movie is how the kaijus were handled. For such large beasts, they were so fast and “floaty” during their fights.
At least they have more weight and impact to them than Uprising Jaegers LOL
@@dmin5782 I agree I was comparing uprising the whole time that's my current worse benchmark with Pacific rim 1 being the best. And it wasnt uprising in my opinion. The only part that was a bit weird was when godzilla started sprinting towars mecha godzilla but other than that it was pretty good.

I’m gonna go out n a limb and say Godzilla was exhausted after fighting Kong so he wasn’t at full strength also before that Godzilla stomped Kong. He only lived because Godzilla showed him mercy. Mecha g always does well vs godzilla. If you've watched the older movies you'd expect that by default to be honest.

It was a great decision to focus more on Kong. Kong has such an expressive face that makes you connect with him and makes you like him as a character, not just a big monster.
You must not have been paying attention, Godzilla was literally communicating with Kong with his expressions and head movement.
Godzilla nodded to ask Kong to submit, he did Godzilla shook his head to the left which was telling Kong to throw his axe down, he did. Godzilla has always been emotive in these movies, I can give you many examples.. is Kong more emotive? Sure.

To be fair, it was said in the film that the Kaiju Podcast was actually pretty popular so other people most have been suspicious about Apex. Yes it is still pretty silly though and I thought the same thing when I saw the movie.
I just saw this last night the CG looked amazing, the fight scenes we're good but I wish there was more scenes with Godzilla vs the other Titans. The only complaint I have is the ending it was too short. aka watching MK tonight I'll give my review

Fucking loved when my whole family all went silent after the fight between kong and godzilla. I was the only godzilla fan and it felt good as hell seeing him go mental.
I was also more biased towards Gojira and was expecting to be annoyed by the movie making Kong to be as strong as him by asspulls. However I liked how the movie made it more like Kong + Humans vs Godzilla. Kong is a baddass monke but by himself he would get wrecked and humans kinda helped even out the fight.

I didn't watched any trailer and the mechagodzilla reveal honestly surprised me. I didn't assumed the movie would go that far in the goofy, over the top and the ridiculous... but they got it... and it was fun, lol
I knew the entire plot the moment they announced mecha Godzilla even while watching it I was able to predict what was going to come next... That's when you know you're writing is lazy when you can predict the plot and next scene
A predictable outcome doesn't mean it's bad. Titanic and Jurassic Park were predictable also.

I wish the hollow earth was the same as in the film but since all the titans are from there make everything giant like the trees and stuff. It would have been awesome to see everything scaled up to fit the size of Titans so when the humans were there it looked like they were tiny little ants in comparison to everything there and not only the Titans

Movie was everything a fan could've wanted in it. The kong humans made some story sense but the movie would literally be no different without 11s character story. I still prefer king of the monsters and the gadora vs zilla fight overall, better movie.
One thing you didn't mention right away about Godzilla's attack on Apex, there were only 10 people that died during his attack and the humans were like "Na, Godzilla needs to die, he's no longer a savior". If Godzilla really wanted to kill people, he could have killed hundreds during his attack.

Dude the fight scenes in this movie were badass. I also really enjoyed how you felt for kong, and got to see the inner earth stuff. The concepts for the tech shown in the movie also seemed really interesting.
When Godzilla gets his next solo movie people will go back to bitching until the next team up.
This movie was a 9/10 for me 8 at worst, best movie in the monster verse so far and I hope it continues. Ppl will always bitch about every little thing

I always thought it would be super cool to have a Dunkirk or 1913 where they film the monster movie from the perspective of one person as all this chaos is around them. Make it super dark. New York is crazy, people are getting run over and robbed, families getting torn apart, people screaming and jumping off buildings. Just insanely realistic pandemonium in a R rated monster verse

If really like to see Joe’s reviews of the other Godzilla movies because it seems like he’s... never really watched a full Godzilla movie. The humans are just about always a good 70% of the movie-and they’re almost always forgettable. It’s how these movies have worked literally forever.
Not to mention in the original, godzilla only appears for the last 25 min or so of a hour 25 min movie.

@@jfoster8624 He got knocked down. Kong basically only got the one good hit on Godzilla, which was shown in the trailer. Out of the 2-3 clashes Godzilla was dominate pretty much the entire time with the exception of the 1 and only good hit. Kong was made a joke in this movie, he barely beat the Warbats and that was only thanks to help from the humans. They didn't show him as capable at all.
Just watched. I wished there would’ve been another 10 minutes at least (film wasn’t even 2hrs) of them fighting Mecha. Perhaps they could’ve had a second mecha too? So there’s a little 2v2 action
