    • It is just as cynical and arrogant, as the critic, to claim that another person will never know, or has not known victory nor defeat. I think it's fair to argue that every person knows defeat and has, in whatever way they have been able, to dare greatly. Dismissing someone else's triumphs and tragedies as neither true defeat, nor daring greatly, is ironically an extremely cynical, dismissive and arrogant point of view.

    • You gotta make bad decisions to appreciate the good ones, the trick is to make the bad decisions on purpose so to try and control the fallout. You don't want to make the bad decisions when you can't control the fallout, like walking up on your home burning to the ground. You might want to do yourself the favor and take the high road that time. If you never allow yourself to build up to your breaking point it might just take you by surprise when you least expect it. It might be a good idea to try it on some simple shit a time or two before it really counts. If you remove your right arm you would no longer have a left, you would just have one. So too with up and down, daytime and nighttime, right and wrong, in and out, sunshine and rain, celebration and suffering, win and lose. Living without morals is crazy but you couldn't celebrate a grand slam if you could do it with your eyes closed and you just couldn't miss. There is no such thing as forgiveness, we pay as we go; however, there is no need to assess an accident still in progress.

  • The second half, starting with: " The Credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena..." was on a certificate that I received in 1978 at the age of 11 years old, from a football coach that I had in the Pee-Wee Football League. I cherished that Certificate more than any other award which I had received during my life; more than any trophies or plaques. Because of the WORDS that were on the Certificate. I memorized those WORDS, and I've spoken them many times in order to motivate, and inspire others. Thanks Mr. President. Thank you, Teddy.

The place I stood back to reflect was at the very end when you’re telling the “foul-mouthed reprobate instigators” to get away or you’ll “give all of them a taste of their eternal place of permanence”. It’s humbling & a relief to realize that as human beings we are more alike than different. The thing that can separate us from each other comes out of a daily reckoning with how close we are to the values we hold most dear, learning thru trial & error, admitting errors & cutting our losses when it’s necessary for a greater good. I have many different views of the interpretation of Gods Holy Word than mainstream modern day protestant doctrine teaches. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of people who share my perception of Biblical Doctrine, but they are few and scattered abroad, and some right here; We are Gods Remnant. I'm not "better," than anyone, but I'm certainly "BETTER," then I used to be. One of the things that differs in my view of Gods teaching from most Christians is that although many of God's teachings are ABSOLUTE, there are also MANY Dichotomies in Scripture that people would prefer to make into a SINGLE Generalization that applies to EVERYONE ALL THE TIME. By the way, Proverbs says, God has even made the wicked for the Day of Doom.   • A great man with an incredible story. He was a man that inspired men then, inspires men now and will continue to inspire men. He was shot before he was supposed to give a speach and he still deliver his message, talking for 90 minutes after the shooting. Young men need examples to look up to and this man is one of them.

It was a sad, awful time; people of color were safer as property than as free people. Not every slave owner was a monster who thought slavery was right and black people were inferior. I expect he was the sort of man who had no patience for arrogant men, a man who tended to look out for the less fortunate. Obama, Pappi Bush and Jr, LBJ, Truman, Lincoln (his freeing of thr slaves was admirable but not through massive war, debt and conscription which is a form of slavery.) I don't know much about Jackson other than he got cheated out of an election and then created a populist movement that became the Democrat party. I have some history to brush up on.

  • I read most of his books and writings and I came yo admire this man called Theodore Roosevelt. Not because he was president; I know the least about his times as President. I got to know him during all his endeavors out West and all around the world. He lived, traveled and bedded down in jungles with the lowly and uneducated yet treated them not much different then those he had daily dealings with in Washington. He was a humble man and never expected more than was due to the rest of his fellow travelers. In the jungles of South America as in Africa he took his turn hunting for meat when rations ran low and shared precious water with his carriers while suffering the greatest hardship with constant threat to his life! He never asked for privilege even in the face of death. He fought in the jungles of Cuba and stayed with the last of his man if need be. He could stay on his horse an entire day and he often did when cattle was rounded up nd moved north from his ranch out west! He did the job of an able cow man and had the respect of all the tough wild men in cattle country long time ago. He roped cattle, transported cattle and slept with the rest of the cowboys with his head on his saddle under the starts, often under great hardship! Yet, how many Americans know much about this man who was one of our Presidents?

Working hard doesn't ALWAY mean success as described by society. I look back at failure and value hope. With hope now fading I can differentiate between want and need. Somtimes life can be hard and unjust, but if we don't "step into the arena" and take up the fight against the obstacles we cannot win. It's always worth taking up the fight, no matter how hard it might be, even if you don't know the outcome. We all can learn from hardship, which only makes us stronger if we accept it and believe in victory. I really like these words a lot: "The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming." Whoever is reading this, I wish you lots of strength in your battle and that 2021 will lead you out of the arena as a victorious man. Never give up, the sweat and blood are not in vain.

  • This excerpt of President Roosevelt’s speech at Sorbonne in Paris 23 April 1910 is masterful. A young soldier in 1989 wrote it calligraphy and gave it to me on his way to his first duty station. Every day is a day in the arena. You have to look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, “did I do my best?” If the answer is no, then find out why not. Was it lack of motivation? Lack of training? Correct whatever is holding you back and try harder tomorrow. No one can be perfect. The best that you can do is high achievement. I’ve always heard it said, “practice makes perfect.” I say be careful what you practice. Because if you practice the wrong things, then you’ve perfected them.   • This speech changed my life, like really. It brings forth all the emotions a human can feel in less than 3 minutes. Leaving you breathless and empty, full of questions and resentment... Yet it fills you with courage you never knew you had, logic to overpower the most complex situations in your life and it clears the fog thats been building up in your head. After those 3 minutes, you are if you've actually listened a changed person. I would never in my life think that a speech that is over a 100 years old would be the key to change in my life. Thank you Teddy, if you only knew that this would inspire and change people so long after youre gone.

Strive to build yourself into a man of character and strength, a man of discipline and self-control, a trustworthy man who puts his skills in the service of others and you will be fulfilled in life. If masculinity and manhood are topics that interest you, feel free to challenge yourself with some ideas on the Mastery Order and challenge back if you have other points of view.   • this speech is the most heartbreakingly true thing I have ever heard. it's so true that people will hate it fore the sole reason that it will make them think back on who they really are on the inside. thank you for putting these up on KZhead at a time when the lessons of the past and the struggles of our ancestors are being erased for the sole reason of not being modern and woke. I was shocked by each Word, its meaning and the marvelous message that leads you to a better life!! Thank you Teddy for your word. Its strength gives you the courage to face life, fight and keep on trying, whatever results may be!!   • This anecdote, really hits me my soul. Ive been feeling wary of showing up daily, putting 150% in my daily task, the enthusiasm that brews from within me from demonstrating how much i want to triumph, only to be held back by my lack of experience, endurance and surrounded by envious hypocrites...... i honestly was exhausted of the thrashing shoves of participating in the arena..... but no more..... great speech

  • I read this speech out loud in front of our church recently. We had all given ourselves to an important program that we ended up closing down. I knew how we could be tempted to be discouraged and lose the important momentum that comes with a big effort in church. Never give up. Never surrender.

  • man this connects with my life right now so hard. It wasn't until i started doing things to make myself more successful that i realized how many people want to see me fail. Its silly but this two minute video has given me so much resolve that i know i cant let any of them stop me.
