  • I took my future wife to this show and we waited on a long, cold line for hours with friends. We had to pee at storefronts it was so cold and windy. By far the most memorable concert in our lives. This is the first time I’m hearing it since 1973.

  • This show was general admission and started at 1:00 A.M. on St. Patrick's Day. The Floyd used the RCM Hall's rising stage and started with Obscured by clouds bathed in red light. Unbelievable. People had tears in their eyes it was so intense.

    • I was there...4th row center. They opened the doors at midnight and me and my friends, once inside, ran down the aisle and grabbed 4th and 5th center. We waited all that day outside, on line, and could see and hear the St. Patrick's Day Parade one avenue over. Best concert I have ever attended and I've attended shows of many great bands over the years.

  • Wow, I attended this concert at the tender age of 17(tripping on Blue Sunshine). Had orchesta center seats about 2/3 back from stage. This is awesome. So glad it's posted here. Have never heard a recording and thought it was lost to time. It was the very premier of Dark Side and totally wonderous. It was my second Floyd concert. I saw them the year before at Carnegie Hall, yes, tripping again, age 16. Great times.

  • I was at this show, I was a senior in high school. It started at 2:00 AM and we walked out at daybreak. The stage came up through a layer of steam/fog and then came forward and stopped just inches from the first row. I was in about the 7th row and was blown away. Echos was just awesome, and then they come out and unleash Dark Side of the Moon on America. Probably my most awesome concert of my experience, and I have been to a lot of shows in the last 43 years...

  • I was at this show too. It was supposed to start at midnight but they didn't even let us into the theatre until around 2AM. It was brutally cold and windy standing in line. By the time we got inside, I didn't even care if Floyd showed up. I was just happy to get warm. Then the gorgeous music started to play and the group rose up from beneath the stage to cast their spell on us all. An amazing night.

I have to say that their music has had more of an impact on my life and my thinking in the last 20 years, than any other genre or band that I can think off. I count Pink Floyd to be a genre of music because there isn't any other band with a sound like it. thanks for the memories

  • This concert was recorded when I was one month old. Pink Floyd has been my favorite group for 20+ years, and I had the privilege of seeing David Gilmour at Radio City Hall this past April. Even though I had the Flu and Pneumonia and thought I was going to fall over dead, it was still the greatest show I've ever seen. To realize he has played that same venue for over 40 years is just simply amazing.

    • It was mostly Waters alone who wrote the songs, the general idea and the concept of the album. In Dark side actually Wright contributed more than Gilmour as a composer: Us and Them (Waters-Wright), The great gig in the sky (Wright, Torry). In dark side there is not one single song written by Waters-Gilmour.

I had tickets to all the shows, then Pink Floyd goes on sale. If I remember, the RCMH show started at 1:00 AM. I went to see NRPS, stayed to the first brak, then drove to RCMH. I remember seeing Jerry in the men's room. When I got to my seat, Bobby and Jerry were 2 rows behind me. This was the best week of concerts I could ever imagine...

I jumped the line and sat in the third row in front of Dave Gilmore. What I remember is watching this great orange ball rise out of the stage. Then all of a sudden there was the group. Then the stage or the part they were on began moving forward towards me. Great show, great times.

  • Tks for posting! I have been a huge PF fan almost since the beginning and I saw them around this time; don't think we even had our hands on DSOTM yet as it was just released Mar 1, and loved hearing the older stuff, which was current to us, and we were in the right state of mind for. Had 2nd row center seats; gifts from DJ friends. Gilmour was wonderfully menacing while singing One of These Days, his face lit from below, which is the main mental picture I took from that concert. Their equipment had been delayed over 2 hrs that night, and we had carefully prepared ourselves for them to go on at 9pm. So there we sat, house lights on, for hours, unable to do much, not even sure there would be a concert, while a near riot broke out due to the delay with 20,000+ stoned people. Some violence. But they did make it, and worked it out as the city let them play after midnight. We got to hear their state of the art surround sound system being set up (they used the synth intro to Great Gig in the Sky to test it), so not all was lost, as it was very interesting. And they gave a show like there had been no delay. One of the most memorable nights of my life and best PF concert experience of any I saw, mostly due to the great seats.

  • The band's lengthy tour through Europe and North America gave them the opportunity to make continual improvements Studio sessions were scheduled between tour dates; rehearsals began in England on 20 January 1972. They then performed in Japan.After a series of dates in North America, the band flew to London to begin recording the album, from 24 May to 25 June. More concerts in Europe and North America followed before the band returned on 9 January 1973 to complete work on the album.

    • Main reason, it's very expensive, and you only had theatrical distribution. So, you'd someone with deep pockets, to pay for the production, then a huge distribution deal. So, a lot of prints, which cost a lot, and theater soundtracks, were not that good as well. I read Gilmour really hated the decision to shoot the "Division Bell" tour on video, instead of film, and it's 4x3 aspect ratio. That's why you generally only had festivals being shot, where you could attract a much bigger audience, with a lot of different performers.

      @marckroll1409@marckroll14099 жыл бұрын
    • why only theatrical distribution? I'm talking about home video stuff. And, let's be honest, Pink Floyd members have very deep pockets :D

      @MaciekSkwierawski@MaciekSkwierawski9 жыл бұрын
    • There was not much "home video" at the time, and what there was, was bulky, and expensive, and commercial distribution didn't really exist, until the 80's.

In Axe I turned to a friend, away from the stage, saying "Here comes the scream" so I was looking at the audience when the whole floor was blown backwards by two trash cans filled with flash powder. At the time Echoes was my favorite pop song. And it cost about $6.

  • Sounds good enough to be able to restore this bootleg. Anyone else interested in a restored version? Does anyone else have a second recording source?

  • Very good for a 1973 audience recording! With a little EQ enhancement, this could sound even better!

  • They played Madison, Wisconsin a few weeks earlier. Our local "heavy" FM D.J. from Milwaukee made it up to the show. Dude was all over the radio for months about the life changing event he'd witnessed. Me? I suspect some very good acid but, to be fair, probably a series of performances for the ages if this recording from Radio City Music Hall is any indication.I think this tour is where they rolled out Dark Side for the U.S. audiences.

  • As a major Pink Floyd, Waters & Gilmour fan, I have heard most of the work done by them. @38 I wasn't born for 5 more years. But by all accounts this is the best recording of Pink Floyd. The sound is awesome, the set list rock's too. This is something many other Floyd minded people agree with. What a pity that there's no video of it. Definitely a must listen 🎸.. Look out, the spelling police are about... Prat

  • A note to all you Floyd fans who enjoy vinyl....the "Pulse" 4-LP box set is a must-have if you are a serious collector. GREAT recording quality, and a stunning presentation, including a beautiful full-color book. While not exactly cheap (I paid ~ $80-ish for it around 2 years ago), it makes me smile every time I play it....Highly recommended ! 7/21

  • Best show I saw back in 1973 at 1 am at radio city . People were trying to buy ticket while we were on line for $100 back then no one given their tickets had front row center balcony. That summer went to Saratoga springs to see them again. Pink Floyd blew all other rock act away then and now. Both Floyds Rogers & David bands. Hope to see them both again when there in their 70's I know they can't stop making music. Floyd, the Stones who left.

  • I was at this show.Hard to believe it was 40 years ago. I was 17 (almost 18), a senior in high school attending my first concert in NYC with two of my friends. Back then Radio City Music Hall still screened movies along with a live show with the Rockettes. Consequently, all rock concerts started after midnight. This explains why some people think the show was on March 16, but it was really the 17th by the time it started.

  • I wsas in attendance at this show. It was St. Patrick's Day 1973. I was fresh out of college at the age of 22. The orchestra seats were ALL general admission, first come, first served. My buddy Ace and I were packed into the front of the general admission line for almost 5 hours. I thought Ace was crazy. Nonetheless, the doors opened and we stormed the orchestra section. We could have had front row seats but chose to sit a couple of rows in front of the sound boards. More to follow........

  • Thanks for this wonderful upload. I was only a baby when this concert was performed, but have seen 10 post break up shows from David Gilmour solo and Pink Floyd, and Roger Waters. We'll never see the foursome together performing, with Rick passing, but we can always cherish these musical master pieces. By the way, I love how Echoes sounds here, even though it's missing the last couple of minutes.
