Alias Grace is based on Margaret Atwood's award-winning novel. The six-hour miniseries follows Grace Marks, a poor, young Irish immigrant and domestic servant in Upper Canada who, along with stable hand James McDermott, was convicted of the brutal murders of their employer, Thomas Kinnear, and his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery, in 1843.

Alias Grace | Official Trailer [HD] | Netflix
/ netflix
I'm just here to say that Sarah Gadon is one of the most underrated actors working today.
Amen, here's hoping Alias Grace changes all of that. She's astonishing, has great range.
HeyItsMike Suzanne B what else is she in?
11.22.63 and Indignation.
Also Belle and A Royal Night Out, both terrific performances.
dracula untold
the ending of this was so unexpected, I'm still not over this series
Same
Same
Hereeeeee
Yess
It is really touching, at least it did to me, I have been looking for ending reviews/opinion, but online the series is not really "popular", I mean, it is beautiful, but if it was a mediocre marvel movie, it had reviews and opinion videos all over KZhead, I am searching 'a needle in the straw' (Italian phrase)
Binge-watched it in 1 day. It's so captivating.
Me too ,i've watched it in one night
Arbenita Sahini dame. Finished it last night.
same...just finished it now
Watched it in one night. BRILLIANT
@@Dream-ix9eh is it a horror serie ?
all these comments r from 2 years ago wow well if anyone sees this now hiii
i am about to watch it!!!!.....
I have literally just stumbled across this trailer. This looks good!
h
Hi
I'm about to watch this right now! I've first seen Sarah in 11.22.63 (by the way, if you haven't seen that show, I highly recommend ya'll to watch it! It's a great Stephen King book and the show killed it!) finishing 11.22.63 made me wanna watch more of her soo... That's why I'm here. I'm so excited!
Her accent is so entriguing
stingraykatie.... it's rather common.
It's a northern Irish accent. Very hard to imitate!
Grainne Duggan Donegal accent, not Northern Irish.
Puca Power No where in the book does it say she's from Donegal. Just that she's from Northern Ireland.
Grainne Duggan I know it's a Donegal accent because IT IS a Donegal accent and Donegal is in the North of Ireland but it isn't "Northern Ireland" whose accents are much thicker than that.
One of the best series I’ve seen in a while. Even though it was a limited series I need more of it. The ending had me sobbing lol
Her accent is brilliant. Probably one of the best by a none Irish actress but there is also so many talented emerging Irish actresses that could've been cast. Still watching
Hanbl 1696 She has Irish roots, that's why.
I know she's got British roots...they're not Irish roots. I think she's just a great actress
Hanbl 1696 She has got Irish roots also and moved to Canada. The accent she is putting on is Donegal. I'm just disappointed at the amount of non Irish actors portraying what is supposed to be a big ordeal in Irish history. I don't understand why Hollywood is always so lazy, it's not just once it's all the time. And the irony is if you're Irish there is a very rare chance that you will ever be allowed to portray a serious role with your real accent.
I know, it's really frustrating. There are some great Irish actors rising and it's such a pity
Irish actors like who?
This series is so underrated, the actress deserves at least a golden globes/Emmy nomination
Just finished watching it and have been talking about it all day! Great miniseries!!!
*spoiler* but did she kill them or not the ending is confusing me a lot
Spoiler alert!!! Yes she killed them. She had multiple personality disorder. She created a version of Mary Whitney as a second personality. That's why she heard the whisper "let me in". So when she was fainting/having an anemia episode that was when the second personality I.e Mary Whitney would take over.
Actually, it is not as clear cut as that. There was an intentional air of ambiguity that permeated the series to reflect the ambiguity of the real case - the answer as to whether or not she killed them (in reality and in the show) is still unclear, with many arguing that she was just merely an unwilling accessory. During her formative years she was subjected to much trauma (for example, her father's violence, sexual abuse and alcoholism, and the death of her mother). Combined with being embedded in a time where women had no rights, the isolation and lack of depthful connection with others, and the prolonged abuse and subjugation, it is entirely understandable that in order to survive Grace (unconsciously) developed splits within her psyche, which could eventually lead to the development of distinct and separate dissociated identities. (I do think she does, at least in the context of the show, have dissociated identities). However, that does not automatically mean that she did in fact commit those murders. It also stands to reason that her traumas and the resultant disorganised and dissociated ways of being in the world could have meant that she was more susceptible to becoming an unwilling accessory. In any case, it's an interesting series!
i know i'm late but could someone inform me on what happened to Dr.jordan? i'm really confused with his incident i didn't quite get it i feel like an idiot
Just started watching this last night. I know im too late..
Just finished watching the series within 24 hrs (no spoilers), and it's GREAT! The main character is very interesting, I just hope we could have seen more.
David Cavill same, I didn't like the ending at all
I didn't either. I feellike there's no closure. I've been waiting for the truth the whole season but they didn't clear things up in the end.
Yea true i think it was a good ending But i wanted to know if she did it or not Lol
IVAN ON THE BEAT / NEW MONEY MUSIC but I guess that was the point of the series. How much do we want to find out if she’s innocent or not? How much does this girl have to go through, either innocent or guilty for us to be entertained? I can’t lie though, I’m also very curious about the ending, but I think it was a splendid ending!
Abra Kadabra no one knows whether or not grace actually did what she did, when she was pardoned she only had 10 months on her sentence left it’s said it was a gift to her. why we don’t know if she was actually guilty because Dr Jordan wasn’t real, and upon the day of her release (last record of her) in 1873 she completely disappeared from history x
Just finished the movie within 24 hours. Honestly, one of the best Netflix Orginal I have seen so far! I love how unpredictable and mysterious is of every "part" of the film.
It is a miniserie, not a movie!
Netflix returning to make TV shows with quality.
LEO'S WAITING Returning? Where have you been? They always have.
LEO'S WAITING I'm so glad because the last few months have been rough!!
Hannah Chumley Did you watch GLOW?
Lisa Wyndham I did!! That was one of the only things they've made recently that I enjoyed and even that wasn't at their usual standard of quality
You guys need to check Ozark. It's great!!
this is BY FAR the BEST Netflix show I've ever seen! this trailer doesn't do it justice I'm so happy I've discovered it it's such a smart and so well played show
can we talk about how good of a job the cameraman/camerawoman did? every shot in this show is aesthetically pleasing
The snippets of acting in this trailer look compelling. I'll certainly give it an episode or two to convince me further.
1840s Canada. I didn't expect it, but there was actually one black woman, who was also a maid.
Best series I've ever ever watched
@@Foxsuper1 I recommend The Handmaid's Tale
@@casie6609 I watched it.... but although it has the same level of intense brilliance i feel the scrput has been wasted down to fill tv hours or somethung....i could be wrong about that.... its very difficult to watch...imvho
If you want something similar to watch after, try Behind Her Eyes.
Watched it already. Anymore suggestions would be of great help.
@@arushibhatnagar4588 try Servant, starring rupert grint. And then they were none and Ordeal of innocence. Also, The OA and The Sinner.
Thanks!
Don’t forget to watch the handmaids tale
I will watch that one I loved alias grace
Netflix saw handmaid's tale and thought we can do Margaret Atwood too!
Zachary Richard this is nothing like handmaids tale???
+Sam Y Both shows are thematically silmillar, shot similarly, and were written by MARGARET ATWOOD!
This show has been in production for the past 2yrs-3yrs if you do not understand the magnitude of what it takes to get a high level production going then please kindly refrain from posting of things you know nothing of after all if your statement had any bit of merit to it do you not think that Hulu would be trying to sue Netflix? Secondly one is a true story from the past while the other one is a potential future one out of several hundred different potential futures
Zachary Richard did you actually watched the handmaid's tale before you made this stupid comment you mutt
I dont know what you meant by mutt but sure I watched it once via a press copy and then 3 times more once it came out
The main actress is perfect for this role.
Sarah Gadon!
Boa noite . Poderia fazer a gentileza de me contar qual é o nome da série e quando quando capítulo e temporada tem . Agradecida ..
Obviously Margaret Atwood likes to focus on class and societal structures, the divide between the wealthy and the servants etc. Not sure how people are struggling to understand that concept. As for the choice of music in the trailer, I think it works. Some people just have a lack of imagination 😘
@my name is my name Why? And what would be wrong with that interest if it is gay?
the feminism is fantastic though and this is based on a true story
@I N that's exactly why I lived it and it stands out
I finished it in one day. It was so good!!!!!! I wish it was longer! And i love 1800s era. It makes us see how people live before. How grateful we should be right now.
1700's
An amazing TV series, criminally underrated. Can't believed wasn't nominated to anything. Based on the wonderful book by Margaret Atwood
Not my normal type of show but why not give it a shot I am already paying for Netflix.
It is SO GOOD
Yes it is i just finished it now Good ending Bye
you wont be disappointed ,i promis you
Sarah gadon makes me fall in love with every character she plays she's truly mesmerizing cant wait
I really thought the ending was lame as first, then my sister watched it and when we talked about it I realized how much the story is two-sided. a real masterpiece
what did you discover? cuz i finished it and I'm confused
@@Dream-ix9eh Just wikipedia the real grace marks then
True. It's amazing. At first it seems like about finding out whether she's guilty or not. Then it turns out how we react hearing her story and how she plays with our perception. We're not the spectator, we're her antagonist.
@@Nhatlan93 Could you elaborate on that? What do you mean by the viewer as antagonist? I was kind of disappointed in the ending, it felt a bit "tabloid" to simply go for the *spoiler* multiple personality thing, like "Oh so she had an evil part", although I understand the evil/angry identity in this case stemmed from all her trauma. But I feel like I missed something some of you guys picked up.
Just finished the whole series, OMG, really good...It got me hooked...
This show is amazing. Sarah Gadon is a fascinating well accomplished actress. Totally underrated!
just finished watching this and it’s literally hands down the best damn show netflix has ever had oh my god
The story was magnificent! The acting breathtaking! Costumes, filming all great!
This show is still super underrated I know nothing like it
this was such a great show so mad it only lasted for 6 ep and i would have definitely wished for a better ending
I guess they left that space for the audience to interpret what they want to. But I agree that it was truly a great great mini-series!
@@chloe-ev3qk i think he was shot leaving him brain damaged with amnesia but i dont think we are actually told what happened to him
I waited for that doctor and Grace to finally confess love because there's a great spark going on between them.. Hope there's season 2
its a limited series, there wont be a season 2 ahaha. it came out a few years ago.
@@dagheidr yeah i know, sad ending tho
Have watched six times! And gotten quite a few people hooked. Watch it!
People watch this I promise you will love it , good acting , i feel horrible for what happened to women and kids in that era I wonder all the time what happened to her lil siblings oh god .
Can't wait for this, I've wanted to see more from Sarah since "Belle."
you can also check out dracula the untold. She was Vlad's wife
afro curly girl and the 9th life of Louis Drax. She’s great in that!
Belle? Which show was she belle in?
Omg I feel stupid I did not recognize her 😱 She's amazing.
The way that she is talking is mysterious perfect her voice is just amazing for the personnage that she is playing and the story is so interesting in a great way it's refleting the souffrance that women's lived
10/10 would recommend. But of course, def not for everyone. Slow paced but really great acting from all of the cast specially Sarah Gadon. Margaret Atwood is easily one of my favorite authors of all time. Amazing storytelling.
Still hoping for a second season. 😢 Dr. Simon saying "Grace" got me in the feels. ☹😢😭 Shouldn't have shown him if a second season was not intended. 😞
Buddy is there any discord servers related to this show cause i can’t find much discussion of this show, the review are totally limited and so much less to start a discussion on this movie

Seriously this is the best new show out there, I am completely obsessed. BRILLIANT - acting, script, directing - BRILLIANT!!!
Now this is a show! Gadon is a great actress glad to see more of her
I have just finished watching this masterpiece. Unpredictable ending but still worth it. Why is this underrated?????😭
Just finished watching it. Great acting, very disturbing imagery and plot lay heavy on the heart. Amazes me how a person can go through so much misery in life. No wonder she had split personality. The ending made me sad. I did not quite understand what happened to Dr. Jordan
Wounded in the war
I recently watched this, and my goodness, amazing!!! I could listen to Sarah Gadon and Edward Holcroft talk all day. Also love Margaret Atwood's writing. I remember reading her stories in college.
Excellent show. If you didn’t watch it and are wondering if you should, the answer is simple. WATCH IT NOW. Great characters, good plot and the visuals and costumes are exemplary. The lighting and production was brilliant.
POSSIBLE SPOILER I watched this show right after I finished reading the book and I've had the chance to reflect again on certain things. Near the end Grace sees Jeremiah's picture in the newspaper and she says something like 'i know my secret is safe with you, and yours with me'. We know what Jeremiah's secret is, but Grace's? Is it that the Mesmerism stuff was merely an act? Was Grace faking it? Was Jeremiah an accomplice? Even in the book, just before the mesmerism part, there's nothing in Grace's POV that tells us what Jeremiah and her talked about before they came into the room. Or idk I may be wrong
This statement of Grace made me wonder that time before they went inside the room (where the hypnosis took place). Remember both jeremiah and grace were still outside of that room, but the scene only shows jeremiah telling grace that it was time to go or something like that. I think they were somehow rehearsing, maybe? Who knows. It also took me back where jeremiah visited grace at the kinnear home. He told grace that the next time he sees her, he hopes that she will be convinced to allow jeremiah to help her. The last time grace first saw jeremiah in many years (the part where she fainted while bringing the cakes), she understood that jeremiah didn't want people to know they knew each other. This only adds more flavor to the dish that they conspired for Grace to be pardoned. In addition, there were parts of the hypnosis scene where "jerome"/jeremiah looked like he was surprised by grace's act-it was like he didn't knew she could be this good. However, this aspect is left for us audiences to interpret.
I think that Jeremiah wanted to help her with doing like a fake hypnosis, she had the opportunity to said the words that will led to set her free, against his plain the other personality of Grace came along and ended like we see in the series
LOOKS AMAZING!
Your an IDIOT! Suspect also a Hermaphrodite too ... Sad!
Sam Y It does indeed look amazing! 😊
For real - Netflix has some fire lined up!
Well after seeing this trailer I am looking forward to watching it
Great another show from Netflix featuring an all white cast. Can't relate. Netflix pls.
This was so good, and so unnerving. Exceptional adaptation from page to screen.

@@ayeshaaurangzeb6543 why?
this is so mesmerizing, i didnt know who the actress was but she was really perfect for her role! the way tha main character was narrating it the whole time adds more to it
I was so excited to watch it. I admired Margaret Atwood as writer, poet and teacher. I am currently reading her book “ The Handmaid’s Tale”. Thanks to my niece for giving me the book.
Just watched the miniseries. Easily topped my list of fav shows of all time. Bless!
this was so brilliant. shady ending but the acting and the script was amazing. loved it
Just finished watching. Brilliant! Love love love!!!!
It was so captivating . Little ironic talks between doctor and grace were amazing
This is amazing work. But I was left feeling like I was on a cliff waiting to lift off. I kept waiting for a connection to be made between Grace and Jeffrey. I had such a strong feeling the he hypnotized her. Anyone else feel like this? Because the whispers???!!!! Come on!
I'm rarely intertested in anything period but wow this looks good
Totally agree! I don't hate period pieces, but they're usually not for me. Looks like this might be pulled off really well though!
Leilabeth Ledford the book is amazing too!!
You should also check out outlander! I'm the same but I love that show!
Leilabeth Ledford I just hope they don't glamorize too much considering this is quite close to the truth.
Leilabeth Ledford you got to be intelligent to understand. Period movies or TV shows
We want more of Grace Marks!!
One of the great period drama series. I shedded tears watching this😢😢

Mini series or not, this definitely needs a season 2. The ending wasn’t enough!
Goosebumps, Sarah gadon is outstanding here, her subtlety is killing

The Music @ 2:06(give me chills) is enough to welcome yet another quality masterpiece from Atwood's world of novels!
A must watch. Simply beautiful story and actor Sarah Gadon.
It was a decent serie that had me on the edge of my seat. The plot was unique and unpredictable. My rate is 7/10.
I finished the first season a week after it was released on Netflix, now I'm just wondering if there's going to be a part 2. It ended as if that was the only season they're planning to create, but I was just checking. I really enjoyed this mini-series.

I simply adored this mini tv series ,I would love an second season, but even if I dont get it ,its one of those rare series that remain in your souls...
True but I feel that everything was said in the first season
this series is so good. I love it.

Her accents are amazing!!!! Always lol Irish and British she's always brilliant
Such a mind blowing show!!!
this is one of the best tv show i watched but i felt sad for the ending :(
Just done watching the whole thing. I’m telling you guys I’m reading all your comments in an Irish accent and English isn’t even my first language! 🙂 Speaking of languages, sometimes I have dreams where I’m fluent in French but I can’t recall any of them when I wake up so I can’t make sure if I was really speaking French or a language my mind made up! Who knows maybe there’s a French Mary inside of me! قل أعوذ برب الفلق!
Yes, me too, the mini-series frightened me a lot because it made me think of the times I thought I encountered jinnis. It seems most people don't really take her being possessed as an answer since they may not believe in spirits, but I think that was exactly it. Qul a3uudhu birabbil falaq indeed, maybe you need to read ruqya on yourself.
The show is amazingly chilling. Sarah Gadon and Margaret Atwood are goddess.
It's been two years, make a second season for God's sake
It was intended all along as a single season series, because it told the whole story as related by the novel. But I wouldn't be against an original sequel or a similar story starring Ms. Gadon. She is brilliant and immediately captivated with the seeming reality of her character.
I think the ending was perfect I don't know if there's anything else to add
@@boredshrimp9425 Uhmm.. yeah. And Idk why people are so confused with the ending because it's very simple. The thing is she had a split personality disorder. When you have it, you sometimes think of yourself as someone else, act like them and later when your yourself again you have no memories of doing such activities that you did as someone because it wasn't you. No ghosts, nobody's fault and nobody's the killer. Why are people so confused?
*you're.
What you wanna see? Grace having kids and l Is I got a great life...?
sold me with Sarah polley. love her since take this waltz and her documentary
I miss her playing in movies tho :(
