Please compare the Ryzen 7845hx to the 13700h legion laptops. Similarly priced so it would be good to see the performance difference
desktop vs full power laptop 4050. Desktop 4050 is the only GPU this generation that is exactly the same on a laptop, so they should perform the same, or be very close.
3070 vs 4060
At the games where the 4050 is higher, the game tends to be more cpu intensive. With the 4050 laptop having an i9 13th gen, the difference is much lower so I'd say the 3060 is better in games that don't support FG
But keep in mind that these two laptops are similar in price so technically if you're gonna use it for a more cpu intensive application then the i9 4050 is gonna be better
tomb raider is definitely not affected by the cpu
Recently bought Nitro 5 with 12700h and 3060 140 watt, couldn't be happier! It is also possible to heavily undervolt 3060 and get even more fps at lower tempetures. FG increases fps hugely but there are so few games which actually support it. In 2-3 years 4050 would beat 3060 easily with more and more games supporting FG but i would just change my laptop in 3 years with 5000 series perhaps rather than dealing with underperforming 4000 series...
@@tsuukasaaa Those particular laptops are similar in price while you can find much cheaper both 4050 and 3060 laptops! For example Nitro 5 offers literally same performance as much more expensive laptops with 12700h and 3060 140 watt while there is no 4050 alternative at least with decent cpu..
@@ggoddkkiller1342 I considered Nitro vs Helios last year too but went with Helios (same 12700h/3060/140w). Helios is their top tier product line, so you can expect general better build quality, better screen refresh rate, better sRGB rating, better cooling with liquid metal/aeroblade, and other minor things like speakers. Generally they cut cost from the screen and cooling but Nitro will still deliver steady performance comparable to many other brands.

3060 is going to be a killer laptop GPU for a long time to come - a solid i7/3060 laptop is about the same strength as a PS5/Xbox series X. EDIT: AND you get more cuda cores than in the desktop GPU.. so at 95 watts, it's only about 5-10% slower than the full powered desktop variant.
2070 is even better with 8GB VRAM.
I have a MSI GE 66 Raider with i7 10875H, 32GB 3200Mhz ram and RTX 2070 (115W), MUX switch, 1080P 240Hz display and very impressed with it’s performance.
@Garrus Vakarian Not sure that I'd bother running that game on a 3060 period - or in the top tier 6600XT in the ps5 lol, no matter the ram. Although the desktop 3060 has 12gb of VRAM.

Hey jarod, seeing this generation has many intel hx parts and many laptops are available with them too when compared to 12th gen releases. Would it be possible to conduct similar core configured h vs hx comparisons to see how much the power difference really affects and whether the battery life trade off would be worth it. That could make up for an interesting comparison i guess! Keep up with the good work my guy, loving it 🙌

@@JarrodsTech alright, I'll give you that. The views on that video are down to about 43k vs your avg 100k (ig?) but the thing is.. it was an i9 hx part with 8p+16e config. All of the hx parts last year were i9s as far as I remember not even i7s and all of them paired with 3080s or 3080tis but this year there are i5s and i7s too and they are available in price range most people are going to be shopping in. In the 1k-1.5k segment there are 13450hx 13500hx 13650hx 13700hx and they have similar core configurations to the 'usual' 13620h 13700h and even 13900h that people usually buy.. as I myself am about to buy a laptop this year I am getting options of hx and h parts with the lower tier gpus in my budget (4060). For example acer has a 13500hx + 4060 predator neo 16 and asus has a zephyrus g16 (13900h+4060) and (12700h+4060). Now the 13500hx and 12700h have 6p+8e configurations and 4.7ghz max on p cores so this definitely would be an interesting contest of what the power limit difference is actually capable of. Similarly 13900h also has a 6p+8e configuration but it has a 5.4ghz max on the p core so now this would be a contest of power limit vs turbo boost and how feasible it would be to the buyer. Anyways typed out a lot 😅, it was just a suggestion so yeah.. cheers.
The graph with the wattage limit and performance is very interesting but it would be so much more helpful to have the clock frequency as well to see at what speed the performance doesn't increase anymore.

Great content as always. But I have a small nitpick: The Performance Per Watt Graphs dont really show the difference between the GPUs but the difference between the used laptop modells. Since the 13900HX in the 4050 laptop simply uses more energy. I really hope with RTX5000 Nvidia increases the core count and VRAM across the board, since its highly likely they will stay at the custom 5nm node for the next gen, the chips should be cheaper to manufacture 2 years after the RTX4000 launch.
yeah that was my nitpick too, the HX CPU has 55W TDP while the H CPU only has 45W, so the 10W difference is very likely because of this

I recently bought a Lenovo LOQ 15 with a Ryzen 7 740HS and an RTX 4050 on sale for $800 at best buy. It was listed for $1100 originally. Is this a good deal or not? What would the TGP for the GPU be on this laptop?

Hi Jarrod, Thanks to you I decided to go for Legion Slim 7i 12700h / RTX 3060 for a good deal. Solid design and construction and many usb ports in the back that help maintain cables out of the way, I think all gaming/productivity laptops should have ports on the back. One tip for better temps for those with Core i7 is to limit the Power on CPU bellow 70% in Windows Power management configuration. I think for those modern CPUs there is no point on letting it use 100% power and create lots of heat when gaming, let`s just leave the heatpipes concentrate on removing heat from GPUs that really is the component the works at 99% 100% load. CPU using 28 watts and GPU around 100W. Fans a little noisy but not a jet airplane like cheap laptops with cheap cooler system. If you really need a quiet machine than only a desktop com Do that but no mobility at all. The keyboard can get a little toasty to my taste (used to game on desktop so no heat in the keyboard) but for the on the go capability is great. I wonder how a new Legion Slim 7 with all AMD system would perform with 7600s or better. Maybe less power consumption, low temps, better battery life lets see.
Got a L5P 5800H 3060. With the gpu pulling 130w the cpu will do 45w and never go above 175-185F. It'll do 65w with 130w gpu for the turbo timer then step down to 45w. CPU only is 75w. With an undervolt I've gotten the 3060 will pull up to 140w, although the performance doesn't improve much.
Depending on the country, 140W 3060 laptops like A15 and Nitro 5 are now under $1000, definitely worth the money for this price range
Helios 300 is even better and can be cheaper if on sale. Strange times.
140W 4050 laptops are available for $950 now, I bought one and will have a video this time next week!
3060 TUF laptops are the same if not slightly more expensive than when I bought mine 10 months ago in my country. Only countable 40 90 overkill laptops are available as for now.

@@septembersighter You may want to be careful with that one. If something is too good to be true, it's probably a scam or defective. Make your research before spending money on that. 3060 140w will probably never go on sale that low for a very long time. That's about $513 US dollars.

Have you consider adding a section in the video showing the FPS at 144 and 240 or at the screen max fps for us to see at what setting it is on and not maxing out everything especially review with only 1 laptop

I've no idea what the hell NVidia is doing cutting down buses and bandwidths down so hard. This generation so far had possibly the most egregious ratio of amazing technology to horrible products :'(

Agree. If the 4050 is matching 3060 with 50% less cuda, rt, tensor & bandwidth then it just seems that the 4050 was hold back by this. & If it had similar specs then it surely would beat by 20-30% easily.
@@Dolphins_are_our_Overlords I mean you are comparing a xx50 series to the xx60 series. If we are talking gen ongen improvement, usually we talk about the same last 2 digits gpu. Which in this case 4050 smoked 3050 so hard that it's almost the same as previous gen xx60 series.
they are castrating and overpricing the lower end to make the higher end more appealing, plain and simple, sad thing is that these SAME cards with better buses and bandwidths will perform much MUCH better but then no one is gonna pay 1000+ for higher end, and the overprice is so extreme that even if you go for the cheaper ones theyr making more money is win/win for them

This one was actually really helpful ive got 2 from bestbuy right now 3060 legion slim 7i for about 800 and asus tuf 4070 for 1050. Trying to decide if build quality and money savings is worth it to keep the the legion. But if the 3060 is very similar pefromance to the 4050, it seems worth it to pay for the 4070. Its a shame the lenovo is so well built otherwise it would be an easy decision
I think at that price point currently, I would go with the 2022 ASUS G14 at Best Buy that’s still on sale as of today (in US) at $999. They even have them in stock at my local Best Buy form same day pick up. I paid full price for mine when it came out last year and I love the form factor, build quality and screen. It’s my “work laptop” so i have carried it to work in a back pack daily for a year now and it is no worse for wear. For the current price it is a steal!
The 8gb VRAM is also an underappreciated feature that should offset DLSS advantage from Nvidia with how VRAM hungry some games are
December last year I was debating whether to buy a 3060 or wait for upcoming 4050/4060. I can confidently say I'm glad I snagged my 3060/12700h/140w power limit for $857. No better cost per frame out there rn. ❤️

Any updates on the predator helios 16 and the 'newer' predator helios neo 16 the former is all new for this year whereas the latter just looks like a refreshed repainted helios 300 from last year, atleast on the outside. Would be interesting to see them completey disected by your hands 😅😂
As expected every newer 50 series gpu performs slower than the older gen 60 series gpu, that happened with the 1050 and 960, 1650 and 1060, 3050 and 2060 to name a few. However, the 50 ti s usually closes the gap and has similar if not slightly better performance than the older gen 60 cards, as the case with 3050 ti and 2060.
I already have 3060 on my gaming laptop. and I think it's my ideal gpu for 1080p non-RT gaming. at least for games that I usually play, it's more than enough. although I tempted to buy 40 series rtx card because of their Frame Generations. making it viable for RT gaming on low-end cards. and from this review, it's really that good!

If you already have a 3060, there is not point to upgrade. But if you are newcomers, surely pick the latest available with the budget you have. It would do but should have picked more VRAM for the future. Even on 1080p.
Yeah, I’m going to upgrade my laptop probably when the 50 series comes out because I’m starting to get worried about the VRAM but since I play Overwatch 2 I doubt it’s going to be an issue for now as 1440p at 200 fps is fine for me
Yeah, i have 12700h and 3060 140 watt, i just love it but with ultra 1080p instant 6 gb vram usage. It is completely fine 99% but then sometimes weird fps loss is happening..
In my country laptop are quite pricy and i want a sleak one too so I went for a sale on a razer blade 15 240 hz 16 gb ram 1 tb SSD qhd display i7 and 3060 for 1740 euro steal

The 1% lows are low at 1440p using the 4050 because frame generation uses more vram and the 4050 only has 6gb of it
But the 3060 only has 6gb of VRAM as well.

all differences In temperatures , in 4050 it's low on 20° then in 3060
exactly what i've said, I wanted 4050 because of FG, but I got Lenovo Legion 5 pro 3060 Ryzen 7 6800h and couldn't be any happier, I mostly play single player games and for example played AC Odyssey, The last of us, and now AC Valhalla, i get solid 60 FPS at ultra settings. Like you said, few games support FG now, and after 3-4 years sure 4050 will beat 3060 easily, but after 3 years i will build my first desktop pc with probably 50 series, so it's worth for me to get more performance now with 3060! not to mention the 16:10 display with 1600p for movies 🥰
@@LilAVEVO Ikr, 3060 performance will become even better with dlss 3.5 and FSR 3.0 nvidia did a huge mistake by limiting FG with only 40 series. And allowed AMD to score big time by supporting nvidia cards as well. If FSR 3.0 performs well 3060 can even beat 4060, i hope so lol

niceee I was waiting for this ! Did you noticed that the 4050 never draws more than around 90 W even with the 140W version in all the games ? I saw many benchmarks and the 4050 seems limited in the power draw...
to draw 115w of the max tdp that it say probably you need to oc the laptop
it's hitting a voltage limit. jarrod talked about it before. there's not much point buying more than 100w for 4050/4060

Yeah, it has a voltage limit which apparently is quite easy to hit. If a program/game is particularly demanding (depends on the workload) it can certainly go above 100W, but by the looks of it, I'm not sure it can even reach 140W.
Note: frame gen(dlss 3) massively reduce cpu bottleneck on 1080p that dlss 2 and game engine caused. No point to select 3060 over 4050 as dlss 3 coming to almost every game

I guess I'll hold on to my 2060 for a while yet. There's basically nothing new, same 6gb vram, similar performance, similar everything, all new increased price. Hold on to it because DLSS 3.5 will be available to 20 and 30 series. Only still the 40 series have fram generation exclusively

If you compare the 4050 to the 3050/3050ti, you'd see there is a good generational upgrade here (as the 4050 is also much more energy efficent) So this comparison shows that the generational differences for these gpus are going great. also believe it or not, but 4050 laptops aren't all that much expensive, since the laptop itself gets the price mostly from having a 12th gen or 13th gen intel cpu, which most 3050/3050ti laptops before had 11th gen 4 core, 6 core, or 8 core cpus (so i5-11300H, i5-11400H, or i7-11800H) Like in my country, a 3050ti/i7-11800H/16GB ram/512GBSSD laptop would go for $1100, while a similarly spec'd out 4050 laptop would be 1400 instead because of them having 12th gen i7s instead, while a i5-12500H would be the same $1100 price.

I have 2 laptops, one with a 3060, the other with a 2070 and depending on the game, sometimes the 3060 is ahead, other times the 2070 - I prefer the 2070 since it has more Vram

RTX 4000 Series is a big joke. Prices are crazy. All tech reviewers told us massive performance game changer and other sh€t. Many people said twice better 3 times better and now what? It's not worth at all to buy new laptops. Better to buy full power RTX3070 ti

Get the 4050 guys, frame gen is a beast and you won't notice the difference unless you play competitive games. Look at the performance it produces, it is like a 3080 already. DLSS 3 adoption rate is extremely fast as well.
Can i ask which laptop better. Planning to get a tuf series laptop. Either the TUF i5 11400h 3060 or the new A15 ryzen 7735HS 4050 laptop?
Why dont you review performance laptops (the normal laptops with dgpu) its interesting to see how it compares with much larger laptops
Takeaway - the 40 series is a giant middle finger to everyone. Frame generation IS NOT A FEATURE... it is a software addon that tries to mask the fact they made a SHIT product.
So nvidia created an amazing chip with the 4000 serie but divide bus sides by two, so it would be just above the prev gen by 10/20 %. So the 4050 should heve been as fast as a 3070 without frame gen, if it had the right bus width, money is all that matter for them, not progress...
Is the new lenovo ig3 2023 7535hs 4050 a good laptop? Would you rather choose that laptop or asus tuf a15 2022 6800h 3060 that only has 62,5 sRGB display? I will be using it for gaming and programming.
What's the TDP on the $1000 Nitro 5? If it's like 100W it should be decent value (although the screen is terrible compared to the Helios 3060).
I would love to see your fantastic analysis for the Arc770. I always hope I'd find one posted one day, but no. Its been many months since launch and after MANY driver updates Intel has pushed out, it time, and would make for a compelling and no doubt popular video! PLEASE! While there are many Arc videos done, many were done too early and the more recent comparison are usually from Intel's fanboys. You are the ONLY reviewer I really do trust implicitly.
I think Jarrod is a gaming laptop reviewer. Maybe I miss the news, is Intel going to implement Arc GPU to laptops?
@@user-ts9uk9kj3z eh, they've already done that some time ago. I remember seeing Acer (or Dell?) ultrabooks/business laptops having Arc GPUs (more specifically, the A750)
between the bottom-3 40-series laptop GPUs, the 4050 seems to be the only ones that gained pretty significant performance bump compared to its direct predecesor (3050/3050Ti). Being able to be noticeably better than a 3060 Laptop in most recent games at 1080p high at a lesser power consumption is gonna make it a Full HD champion for quite a long time.
It is because of the cpu difference, do you know how much of a difference core i7 is to core i9, not to talk about the 12700h to 13900hx
but it's not really noticeably better?
With 6gb of ram, this "quite a long time" will be quite short
It's a great card for old games and e sports. New games ported from the latest consoles will be painful on these lower end laptop cards.

Is there any way to increase the voltage for the 3060? I have victus 16 2021 and it is limited to 95 W
But what about the problem from 4050/4060/4060 GPU's not going higher than 100W? I watched some videos, where a full powered 4050/60/70 didn't go over 100W because of a setting of nvidia. Could that be the problem why the 3060 beat the 4050?
This has been discussed many times already. The new GPUs are voltage limited and they hit that limit at around 100 Watts. Blame Nvidia.
Only 4090 laptops are worth it in terms of performance compared to previous Gen but they’re too overpriced.

Very surprsied they are basically matched since the 4050 has 96bit bus memory which is just insanely low.

When testing at Ultra, these laptops get around 40 FPS, which makes differences appear small. These GPUs should be used and tested with Medium settings, which will provide a bigger gap.
In terms of a percentage difference it's actually not that different. The goal here is to load up the GPUs hard, not show you what FPS to expect in normal scenarios.
Last week I picked up legion 5 5800h 3060 130w QHD 165hz 15.6inch screen 16gb ram over asus tuf a15 ryzen 7735hs rtx 4050 144hz 15.6inch 16gb ram which was slightly costly and I was getting good freebies with legion like wireless mouse and gaming bag pack and 3 years warranty too. Hope I made right decision.

@@ChardTv Obviously depends on what you play and what resolution you play on. If you're playing only the latest games, the 3060 could still cope well at 1080p. At 1440p, you'll have to lower your game settings not to max out your VRAM. Even 8GB of VRAM isn't enough for 1440p higher settings in recent games.

So we can unanimously agree this is the worst GPU generation in recent memory? Every Lovelace laptop GPU has been disastrous in performance/dollar, performance, performance/watt or a combination of the three. Frame Gen might become a bandaid if things get worse. And I don't expect much better from AMD (before anyone calls me a fanboy)
I hope 50 series is better, or these 40 series GPUs all get updates that give them better cost per frame.
Well, 3060 is just the buy right now since 4050 laptops cost about the same. That's to be expected since the xx60 s are usually better than the xx50 next generation. It's sad that they increased the price on the 4050 laptops so much this generation. It would be a very good buy with the efficiency gains at lower power..

For 1080p gaming 4050 and 3060 will be on par on many instances due to accompanied CPU differences. 95W 4050 will beat a 95W 3060 outright but both have 6GB of VRAM which will be their biggest drawback. If both laptops are the same price, get the 4050 because it's base framerates are good enough to not be hampered by frame-gen which adds latency. AV1 encoding will help for aspiring streamers as well.

Yeah everything you said is true and the 4050 has really cool perks like frame gen and AV1. But I’m still shocked that the 4050 laptops are priced so much higher than the 3050 laptops were last year. It’s kind of crazy how much of a price jump there is for xx50 series laptops this year. The 4050 is still good relative to the competition, but I guess the idea of getting a decent budget gaming laptop at $750 like last years IdeaPad Gaming 3 is not possible anymore.
@@MoChuang343 ideapad gaming 3 with 5600h and rtx 3050 came out around 1000$ in 2021 (at least in my country). It becomes 750 after 2 years. So saying that the new laptops with 4050 (even the bottom specd 45 watt 4050 is still way faster than the maximum watt 3050) which came out at around 1000 dollars is expensive, it is not necessarily true.

I’d love to see a low power battle, as the 4050/3060 both often come in super thin and light lower powered designs. For instance something like the ASUS z13 4050, I would expect to absolutely destroy a 3060 at the same wattage

I find 3060 laptops to be better built than 4050 laptops at the same price over here, like a Ryzen 5 7535hs 4050 IdeaPad Gaming 3 is the same price as a Ryzen 7 6800h 3060 Legion 5 here. It's kinda a no brainer to get the Legion.
The 4050 is a great deal and new people should invest in frame generation as the future of gaming! Now that I've said that, I hope more people buy the 40 series so the 30 line falls in price because it's obviously a way better deal already.
