So I Finally Flew on the Airbus A350...

The newest addition to Calgary's airline lineup is German carrier Eurowings Discover, which is Lufthansa's vacation airline.
They started seasonal flights to Calgary in August, supplementing Air Canada’s existing flight to Frankfurt, and will stop service for the season at the end of October.
I knew this is one flight I wanted to try while it was still around, but, there’s a bit of a catch.

  • As an Employee of Eurowings, I need to correct you with one thing. You always talk about Eurowings, but Eurowings Discover is a different airline than Eurowings Discover... so you either need to say Eurowings Discover all the time or just Discover. But Eurowings is the Value-Carrier, that only flies around Europe ;) 😎😎 Still a great Video

    @carsten2293@carsten2293 Жыл бұрын
    • Thank you, I realized they were distinct from one another but saying the full "Eurowings Discover" over and over again would've gotten pretty repetitive haha. I'll shorten it to just "Discover" instead next time.

  • 14:46 - speaking of the seat width on the A350, it is definitely noticeably wider than on the 787 and 777. There's definitely a lot more shoulder space, and I like that there are conventional windows on the A350 so you won't have to deal with the annoying locking dimming windows on the 787.

    • I just flew Air Turkey 787-9 3x3x3 configuration. The MOST UNCOMFORTABLE EVER. Narrow seats and isles. Apparently Only JAL flies 2x3x2 787s.

    • @@johnfitz2509 JAL's 787's are 2-4-2 in economy, and only on their long range interior at that, but yeah, they're probably much more comfortable than your average 787

    • No doubt! The A350 is my favorite aircraft to cross the Atlantic on, as it is a minimum of 9 hours from Houston to anywhere in Europe. The 787 is noticeably more uncomfortable, speaking from the economy perspective of course.

    • The a350 is in between the 787 and 777 in terms of cabin width, so 9 abrest should be pretty comfy. Some budget airlines are going to try 10 abrest and that's probably going to suck...

  • I was very skeptical about the new Finnair business seats as one of my favorite things in business is to recline close to the "bed mode" , enjoy the food and drinks, watch whatever and let the time fly. Especially now that all the old Finnair's bread and butter routes to China, Thailand, Japan and Korea are often +11 hours. With the two pillows and the large seat area with different gradients for your back depending on how you seat made this much of a less problem on the new seats. Everything else is a clear upgrade with more spacious area in general, wireless charging, better storage space, more desk space, better screen and looking more sleek. By bringing the seat into sleep mode you can close the gap your legs would go and you are essentially in fully cushioned space. I have noticed to quite often having my legs crossed on my seat with pillows on my back. Something that would have never been possible on the old seats being 184cm tall. I would still prefer for the seat to also recline, but in the end it was something I did not think about when flying.

So they have pretty much had 2 years of no asia flights, and this arrangment is clearly a result of that. Shame you didn’t get to try the new Finnair seat. • A couple of thoughts...business class fares can be upwards of 10 times the fare of an economy ticket. There is zero excuse for anything less than perfection from the airline charging the fare. Theres basically 2 opportunities to shine...the seat and the food. The airlines need to get rid of narrow footwells asap as they are awful and make restful sleep impossible. The food should be perfectly prepared and professionally served by a friendly staff. The business class passenger should always arrive well rested and well fed. The aircraft itself was incredible. The xwb makes beautiful music.

    @davidcole333@davidcole333 Жыл бұрын
    • Totally agree on the narrow footwells. It does not give you a full restful sleep on an overnight flight. To me that is the whole purpose of that paying for that upgrade. Back in 1999 I flew on CP Air's DC10 from London to Toronto and the Business Class seat was a full width lie flat bed. Same with the B767 connecting to Vancouver. The new Herringbone configuration I guess allows more seats, but the bed isn't as comfortable. Can say the same on Lufthansa's 747-400 in 2003 & 08.

  • Eurowings Discover is very new. It will be interesting to see if it becomes "its own" airline in terns of Business class product or remains "lufthansa". Consider when Air Canada "rouged" flights and business customers were not happy about losing business class service on their formerly AC mainline route. So curious if the Eurowings Discover business class product will remain an extension of Lufthansa business class (service LH business class customers with same levels of service) or if Eurowings will eventually develop its own differentiated and "leasure travel" level of business class. Also, you really need to see a doctor about your long legs. Since you fly so much, you'd benefit from some cosmetic surgery that shortens them 🙂 You made no mention of in flight noise levels. Curious how the 350 compares against 777 and 787 and 330neo.

Surprised you don't see short-ribs offered more in business class because unlike steak they cannot be over or under done and are more satisfying (at least to me) then many chicken or fish options. It doesn't seem like you drink alcohol? That is a shame because one of the best things of flying business class is the variety of alcoholic beverages offered to you from the moment you take your seat (even before you take-off!). I would wash down those delicious spare-ribs with a hearty red wine followed up with a liquor and coffee to go along with the dessert and then later on a "night-cap".
