The water chip was a reference to Fallout 1. There, it was the player's original mission to find a replacement water chip to secure the survival of their vault.
So far all the reaction channels seem to be shocked about Lucy's treatment/reaction of/to the severed head. Remember, she's from a vault that's very analytical, scientific and dry about the human body ( and reproduction ). She doesn't know to be shocked or disgusted by it, just a body part. Okiedokie.
When they announced the show, I rolled my eyes at the idea that they’d show us the origin of the Vault Boy mascot. But it works so so well in the show! It shows how people like Cooper become commodified as nothing more than a product to sell a brand instead of a human person. Love this show
Maybe the squire carrying things is a reference to having our companions carry our heavy junk and weapons we need
I absolutely love that Cooper Howard was LITERALLY the poster boy for Vault-Tec. And company were such big fans of him they designed the Vault suits after his outfit from his movies.
Falling on your back hurts even if you don't break anything. All the air in your lungs gets pushed out and for a few minutes they feel very raw while you gulp for air. Speaking from experience.

I think Maximus went with that angle because he desperately wants to become a knight and prove himself to the Brotherhood of steel. Yes he should have just told them what happened, but he would probably also look more sus considering they were already sus about him hiding a razor blade in his friends boot.

The broken water chip is my favorite easter egg. Getting a new water chip was the main questline in the very first Fallout and the reason why the Vault dweller had to leave his vault
