2023 Ferrari 296 GTB Review // Guilty Of ONE Crime

2023 ж. 28 Ақп.
989 104 Рет қаралды

The 2023 Ferrari 296 GTB ($444,287 USD as spec’d) is a hybrid mid-engined V6, capable of an astonishing 818.6 horsepower and has an electric-only range of up to 15 miles (25 km). This may not be Ferrari’s first foray into hybrid power, but it is the first road-going Ferrari to sport a V6. The 296 GTB aims to be both playful and practical, but does the hybrid V6 live up to the Ferrari name? And to its price? Thomas and James spend some time to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. • Your reviews of Ferraris are the reason why I trust you more than literally any other journalist. You’re able to fully admit this it’s practically a perfect sports/super car, but aren’t die hard apologists who are willing to pass off the interior UI as merely quirky or “difficult to get used to.” Can’t wait to see you drive the Artura - sounds like it’s less exciting of a car but maybe is actually liveable (assuming it works properly)??

    @AbramPT@AbramPT Жыл бұрын
    • This probably wasn’t provided by Ferrari. It’s probably a customer car. Ferrari would NEVER participate in a truly honest journalistic production. Never.

    • Ah yes.... McLaren's attempt at this. At near as I can tell, it is good but.... McLaren and technology have always been in a bit of a fight and any hopes that the Artura has slayed that dragon are misplaced, since you know the big engine recall.

      @DuvJones@DuvJones Жыл бұрын
    • @@Rodisflawless You’re right - “die hard apologists” is probably an exaggeration, but most journalists I’ve watched/read seem hesitant to risk being blacklisted or are quick to forgive because “but it’s a Ferrari.” In my make-believe reality where I earn enough money to actually buy one of these vehicles, I want unadulterated honesty, which is what these guys provide imo.

  • What's absurd is that manufacturers are ditching hard buttons right as cars are getting incredibly quick and responsive. When you're traveling so quickly and don't have much time to use the use the controls, that's exactly when you want hard buttons you can use by feel. McLaren still understands this, and that is one of their advantages over Ferrari. I remember someone at Audi being asked why the e-tron GT has more physical buttons compared to other Audis and they said because the e-tron GT is so quick and physical buttons are easier to use in a very quick car. Capacitive touch buttons are ok to use when stationary but inappropriate when moving.

  • thank you both for another *well done* and, most importantly, *_honest_* review! I gotta say, it was really refreshing hearing someone *_finally_* call out the Ferrari's interior (namely the controls) for what it is. I fully understand and recognize how good the rest of the car is, however, I'm sick of every Automotive journalist turning a blind eye or giving it a pass when it is genuinely *so bad!* Yet, they will absolutely _roast_ cars like the Corvette, in previous generations due to the interiors "feeling cheap" and in the c8 because they "just don't like" the center button stack. I'm not saying they are necessarily wrong about either point, but it just seems silly to me to hear complaints about an inexpensive sports car having an inexpensive interior and the people who own c8's that I've heard from all say the center stack becomes extremely simple and is quite intuitive pretty quickly. in contrast to the prancing horse here that can cost 5...6+ times as much and is almost impossible to operate without taking your eyes off the road.

Fast is not equal to enjoyment in reality . I will say this. My first car was a 1977 vw scirocco Mars red with 13 inch 205 60. Gti soild head 1.8 g grind cam. S@s header. Fun is different. A car has to have personally. I really like fast cars because of the intensity. I want to experience it, but gosh. Picture this. I grew up with a family friend. 1953 MG td kit car. No vw. Ae86 1600 5 spd in a 1200 lbs car manual brakes steering. To hit the brakes, you have to lift off the gas and place your foot under the gas pedal to brake. Legs pointed to the center. I got married in this car. You can take the good with the bad when it's worth it. Nice car Ferrari made finally. I always thought the Dino was the best looking and I'm glad to see it again. • MRCarSounds was a lovely surprise for this video. Loved it. I'm afraid that I don't get this car. I don't understand why it exists. If it's supposed to be the "entry-level" Ferrari, then what is the use of the Roma then? It just looks like a reskinned 458, 488, F8??

  • I have to say your assessment of the 296 is spot on! I had the privilege of driving one last year during Monterey Car Week and it's an amazing car and works brilliantly! That said, I much prefer my 458 I picked up this past December lol, because as you said, the 458 is perfect

    @LifeatSpeed@LifeatSpeed Жыл бұрын
    • …hm, I did drive the 458 a couple of times and I wished I liked it more than I actually did… I stayed with my 512TR instead and added a GT4 which made me never look back to 458… I guess I am not a fan of cross plane V8!

    • @jogu123 it's all personal taste. For the longest time I wanted to add a Porsche or two to my collection until I drove a GT2RS and between how disconnected and numb it felt and the exhaust sound of the flat 6, I decided it wasn't for me. Which is really unfortunate because O love the looks of the 911s.

  • I think you just perfectly highlighted the chasm between RICH, rich and the rest. You can have ONE Ferrari 296 GTB OR; 1 x Porsche Cayman GTS, 1 x Lotus Emira, 1 x Corvette Z06, 1 x Range Rover, 1 x GR Corolla and an expensive holiday in France. The rest of us would be happy with the Corolla.
