When Victimhood Leads to Genocide - Prof. Jordan Peterson on Dekulakization

In this excerpt of his lecture series “Maps of Meaning” psychology professor Jordan Peterson talks about an especially bleak and horrifying but relatively unknown episode in the history of the Soviet Union - the Dekulakization. He points out how enhanced victimization and the concept of class guilt ultimately led to genocide and the starvation of millions of people.

    @vsander09@vsander093 жыл бұрын
    • Maybe, but in reality they made the borders of identity so vague any person can claim to be any identity, so its not exactly going to work. Also the identities in question do not have the capacity to commit genocide because they are not influential enough. It's hardly likely for example that the LGBTQ identity group for example is going to massacre a bunch of gun toting republicans. Yet for some reason the gun toting republicans think this might be the case. Honestly what are these "identity groups" going to do, shout you to death? It's laughable hyperbole at best.

    • Мой прапрадед тоже был кулаком (kulak). У него было пару лошадей и коров. Все отобрали. А потом был голодомор. Прадед знал, что так будет. Он пытался спрятать мешок зерна. Но соседи узнали об этом и доложили. Ночью за ним приехали, чтобы его сослать или расстрелять. Но он успел сбежать. Прабабушка осталась одна с 3 детьми. Младший умер от голода. Остальные были пухлыми от голода. Прабабушка по ночам искала рядом мышиные норы - в них было до жмени зерна. Но таких нор было мало, прабабушка поняла, что они все умрут и нужно уходить в другое место за едой. Они пошли из села в город. Практически всю дорога прабабушка несла 2 детей на себе, они были слабые. Они застали ночь в чужом селе. Люди раньше пускали путников, вот они и постучали в крайний дом. Но на стук открыли дверь в другом доме и силой их втащили к себе. Оказалось, в тот доме куда они стучались жили каннибалы. Много людей бежало от голода и в крайний дом все и стучали. Их пускали, но никто больше оттуда не выходил. Соседка каннибалов увидела моих предков пожалела женщину с маленькими детьми и буквально их спасла. Они дошли до города, там был прапрадед, которого раскулачили. После того как у него все отобрали он начал жизнь с нуля и смог спрятать еду. Когда он увидел внуков с раздутыми животами, он спрятал еду и давал им есть по чайной ложке каждый час. Прабабушка не понимала, зачем он так мучает детей - есть же еда. Но он видел, что после голода люди умирали от обычной порции еды - это слишком много для них. Моей бабушке было 4 года. До самой смерти она нервничала, если в доме нет еды. Обязательно должны были быть запасы муки, сахара, круп, консервов и хлеб. Она была просто помешана на хлебе. Если в доме не было пару буханок хлеба про запас она нервничала.

(Also, it was Stalin, not them, who tried to conceal knowledge of it and their relationship with him was, to say the least, remote.) Also, there's nothing "semi-false" about the fact that they've been victims (but if there were, there would be more emphasis on their presence in the Ukraine around the time of the Holodomor genocide, but as is evident from this conversation, it's rarely focused on).

    • A profoundly keen observation. Let's paint a comparative picture. God had already shown Adam and Eve how to offer a sacrifice. This knowledge was handed down to their children. Suppose Gods instructions for a sacrifice are the laws, and Abel and Cain are citizens living under said law. Abel is a conservative who conserves the way of life as it was handed to him. He works diligently and does exactly what is expected of him. Cain is inquisitive, he loves to question and do his own thing, he is a liberal. Both are asked to offer a sacrifice, but only one gives the sacrifice God actually wants. Cain had the resources to give the appropriate sacrifice, but gave in to his apathy. He figured he could reinterpret the laws and come up with his own form of justice, so he offered up fruits and vegetables instead, which I'm sure were quite perfect. But it wasnt what was asked of him. When God accepted Abels sacrifice over Cains, he played the victim. Abels character and work ethic acted as an open rebuke to the folly of Cains philosophy, character and attitude. This sense of judgement he felt upon him, that pointed out the fault wich was solely his, seethed into murderous desires which he then acted upon. Cain always felt he knew best, and questioned everything instead of just doing what was needed. When God confronted him on the murder of his brother Cain replied, "Am I my brothers keeper?" We must learn to know when it's the right time to be the liberal, and when it's right time to be the conservative.

He said that they were cheated by a NGO about the nature of the project, and that the NGO promised help and resources if they opposed the project. To make the story short, after the project was rejected by the angry mob the NGO didn't fulfill its promises and go away, leaving a village with 90% children malnourishment. The small village was located FAAAAR away from everyone else, it produced lumber, grain and a few minor things, the owner of the general store was the riches person around (but at least he wasn't a greedy person), he was the one who bought the things the village produced and once in a while, send a truck driver out into the wider world with the resources, and it came back with goods. Then one day, a group of people, wearing red armbands, came to the village and started preaching how terrible people with more money than yourself was, and so they got a bunch of the people in the village (mostly, like the example Peterson made, the "misserable drunks") turned against the store owner, it escalated into them hanging him as a "thief", and distributing his possesions, but a few months later, the village faced a problem, they were in need a lot of goods, that they normally bought at the general store, and none of them knew how or where to get them, outside the village (the family and employees of the store keeper had fled, and nobody wanted to go to and open a store, in a village where your neighbors would kill you and steal your stuff), this included things like medicine and gasoline, so at one point. The majority of the people in the village ended up packing their things and move, because they just couldn't live there any more, one of them included the great-grandpa, his family decided to travle west, so far west, that they ended up leaving the country, and he said that "the dumbest decision the village ever made (turning aginst the store owner), forced his family to make the the best decision ever (to leave the country), but he belived that had they not made the first, they would never had needed to make the second". How I understood it, it happened in the northwest part of Russia, around 1918-1920, and he travled west to the Scandinavian countries. The "victims" ended up killing, the one who was basicly their lifeline.

The similarity of Communists in Russia, China and now western world is the elitists (and intellectuals) look for a group of people who are socially or economically disadvantaged, and turn the group against the authority. • Peterson raised a *really* important point near the end. The fact that most of Soviet history is not popular knowledge is a really troubling thing. Our society exists in permanent contempt against the concept of the alt-right because we have incorporated the history of Nazi Germany and the events of WWII into our culture as an empirical defense mechanism against its reprisal. There's nothing wrong with that, since it actually works. The problem is that, since Marxist history is not as widespread, our societies are not as equipped to identify and weed out the potential for the alt-left as they would be to identify the potential for the alt-right. And that's weird, since the Soviets were about as bad as the Nazis, if not potentially worse, so it baffles me that only people within intellectual circles are the only ones who are aware of this, despite the information being as readily available as it is. I mean, can't we get our hands on the Manifesto quite easily this days? I've definitely seen it more in libraries and bookstores than Mein Kampf. Legit, try asking anybody about the Nazis. They will tell you with relative ease, because its *that* embedded in our culture. Now try asking about the Soviets. Weird, right?

But I'm very skeptical of BLM since those on top of that group openly state they're "trained marxists" and "versed in ideologies" and other theoretical nonsense. No data, no research... Just anecdotal. They use intimidation and force and soon label you as their enemy for if you're not with them, they decide that you must be against them and thus you become an enemy in their eyes that should be dealt with sooner or later They do not tolerate certain questions. Same old typical tactics: Use of weaponized mobs The more chaos, the more success Declawing the authorities that stand in their way 2 + 2 = 5 mindset (read the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four) Juggling with words to win arguments and if they can't they'll try shut you up Victimhood as fuel for the downtrodden are their useful idiots and future shocktroops They need the situation to be as shitty as possible to further their goals It's a slow process and they have time... The boiling frog. So yeah, I'm pretty skeptical of those who call themselves "trained marxists" for this isn't about your average socialism here. It's about an ideology that murdered millions of innocents in the name of a dream that never came to be... And it never will.

Stalinism was only worse because people actually wanted to take things away from people by force against their will and willing to kill to do it, well capitalism has that too but they try not to overtly kill productive labour units. the only way to avoid that would be a tax free society and no govt, but that doesn't work because thats anarchy and then no one would 'fix the roads' (metaphor) and there would be no rights to speak of except for the point of a gun.
