#refrigerator #fridge #compressor #inverter #r600a #old
in 1993 I was 30 and I changed the motor-compressor to r-12 in 45 minutes ... and my knees did not hurt)))
Very clear annunciation, no distracting background music - this helped along with your clear step by step replacement process.
Satisfação por ter instalado um compressor fabricado no Brasil
I'm amazed it's cost effective to replace the compressor and re gas with hours of labour on a very old freezer. I note the old gas was let into the atmosphere. That's not allowed in many countries.
Yes Inverter compressors work on variable frequency drive, which makes them to adjust the speed of the compressor using control boards. Also they can be smartly Used with thermistors to control the refrigerator temperature, Well I checked one of your video too. You are doing good work to. Appreciate your work too.
in their country it is much cheaper to repair the unit rather than buying a new one.
Yes it do is..
what he does is illegal everywhere on this planet. He MUST not release the R134 to the atmosphere
@johgude5045 you can give him recycling machine, he can't afford it
Last week my fridge totally gave up. I figured it would be the relais and compressor like in your vid. But since i didn't have all the equipment and knowledge you have, i figured to buy another fridge and let them take away the old one. In contrast to the fridge in your video, mine was pristine from the inside, no filth or stains or anything. I actually hope they refurbish my old one at the depot, since there is already enough waste. Also i am glad there still exist simple fridges that don't have bluetooth or other of those electronics inside. (Unfort. not with washing machines. I can't find a single washing machine anymore with a mechanical clockwork cylinder inside. All bleep bleep electronics now). Keep up the good job!
You can rip the beep beeps out and replace it with older system, or an Arduino
Check out Speed Queen washers.
You are a perfect candidate for the carbon felt pad used to protect from welding and I'm sure brazing. You'll still need the regular wet cloth to cool. I was amazed it was able to protect whatever I put under it when Arc Welding.
This retrofit would never fly in the US. The EPA requires the R134A to be recovered ($10,000 fine for venting) the maximum R600 charge allowed by the EPA in any household appliance is 2.4 oz (68 grams), a retrofit of this type would void the UL (Underwriter's Laboratories) certification creating a serious liability risk to both the company and the technician performing the repair. When I was R600 factory trained and certified by Whirlpool, we were only allowed to use newly developed special crimp connections made specifically for R600, never solder connections. The only R600 units I worked on that were solder connections were manufactured by Liebherr.
Hey @ironman .. Please elaborate on why R600 would create a liability risk? He did say the extra charge was for the extra tubing. Would 20 grams make that much difference?
The only reason we allow R600 in the US is because the amount of flammable product is so small there is no chance for a leaded product could make a burnable mix due to the minute quantity of product. By adding the 20 grams more than allowed should a fire or explosion happen withing a mile of this appliance dozens of lawyers would be lining up to sue and likely win million dollars @@TheBlairHouseProject
@@waltahlgrim5508 I understand the point, but it seems highly unlikely. Pretty much unprovable in court. Plus most houses are filled with flammable things. I just don't think 80 grams of butane is going to make that much difference unless you release it all quickly in a tiny closet space and immediately light it. 😉
The EPA made the rules what you or I think about the rules is irrelevant. I for one will follow the rules. If you chouse another path all I can say is good luck with that plan. @@TheBlairHouseProject
If you are measuring the temperature, then go closer to the object. Many sensors have a 30° opening, this means that the sensor-area is around 30cm if you have a distance of 30cm. The laser there is only good to see were is the center-point of this circle. Some sensors have a focal point of 1:12 (2.5cm point at 30cm distance) or some very good with 1:60. Many people are doing it wrong, because they think that the laser itself is the measurement-device. And the surface what you want to measure should be black. If I measure a aluminium surface of a heat-sink, then I paint the surface black with a permanent marker before the measuring. If the black area is only 1cm in diameter, then I use only a distance of 1cm.
Oh that's a new thing, thanks man
@@forevertechenglish IR thermometers are pretty neat. The one I have uses 2 or more thermocouples to measure the temperature-one exposed to light from the outside and the other not. The temperature difference indicates how much IR light is hitting the sensor. Lenses focus the light, so there's a focal distance where the measurement area is smallest, and getting closer or farther away makes it bigger (think of a magnifying glass focusing sunlight). The manufacturer generally tells you how large the measurement area is for each device. You're measuring the 4th power mean temperature of the measurement area, so if you measure something half hot and half cold the thermometer will show a reading closer to the hotter temperature. The IR emissivity of many materials is >0.9, but certain metals are a common exception. This pretty much means that those metals with low emissivity emit a small percentage of the IR radiation an ideal black body with emissivity 1 would. Such materials often reflect IR, so you're likely to measure the temperature of the reflection and the IR mirror you think you're measuring.
Instead of using that type of sensor use thermocouple - simple :)
@@Optimuseq - Yes, this would be more easy, you only have to get a contact with the other material.

Yesterday i convert R600 fridge/ freezer to R134a. Had to change condenser, compressor and filter drier. Also shortened the capillary tube, now freezer compartment is at -25C and fridge compartment at 4C. Pressures when saturated are 5psi on low side and 120psi on high side.
Thanks for the info
@@el1Mundo on what basis??
Can you explain why you shortened the capillary?
to reduce restriction, with tube in original length the high side was getting too much and the low side went into vacuum@@kareemhameed4042
Extremely good video, I have old rounded fridge or cooler, what ever it is and want to use it it, but old compressor is working, but for sure, no forever.
Checking for excess oil in the evaporator is a very in important step. Good he emphasized that
Great point!
Всё правильно, ты молодец! Very good 👍
I had several old fridges that had rusted compressor pipes and all the R12 had gone years ago. The compressors still started and ran okay. I replaced the rusted bits with brazed copper pipe. I the pressurised the system with fuel grade LPG (propane butane mix). I then let all the gas out again and did this several times. As I refilled I watched the compressor current which did not get up to the rated current on the compressor label. Ice started to form on the suction side so I bled gas off until it stopped and then a bit more. After the fridge had come down to temperature, a little ice was forming again so I bled off a bit more. Two of those fridges are still okay ten years later,.No vacuum pump, no gauges, no oil change, no capillary change, no problems, lower power use, shorter running cycle just LPG highlighted on the label. Not illegal to bleed LPG to atmosphere. Most domestic gear chucked out can be home repaired.
problem is, that the fridge maybe become a BBQ one day.........
Use a pressure regulator for the N2. In Romania these are delivered with 200 Bars. I would really not feed the circuit with this pressure. Regulating pressure by tapping on the valve is just insane. You are only regulating the flow, if the system is not open you can build up that pressure in the circuit....
This dude know what he is going.. Appreciate your efforts in sharing us this video.
I appreciate that!
No he is wreckless and dangerous. He built a bomb.
wrong...not supposed to vent refrigerant to the atmosphere. This guy should be fired.
OMG the amount of dust in that fridge is totally off the charts. I cleaned out my desktop gaming PC after 2 years of daily use & it had only a fraction of the dust that fridge had.
No he does not. Dude let straight up refrigerant into the atmosphere...
Nitrogen regulator or you may no longer be with us
I use it everytime, but I knew no high pressure was required in this case.
😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂
Ahahahahahahah. You think safety is on the list for overseas guys. He probably doesn't have one. Things are not easy to get don't forget.
He works like someone who has no fucking idea , saw someone doing it and did it
@@forevertechenglish your confusing of flow and pressure is dangerous.
That final part, about condenser length and refrigerant type (and their boiling points) you mentioned at the end is not clear to me. Maybe you could prepare another video about these fluid conversions and the impact their properties could have inter original installation. Thank you!
great video again mate , thank you for the knowledge
Thanks
we still have compressors from Zil Moscow refrigerators, produced in 1971. I installed it on the freezer and filled it with freon R134a. video can be watched on my channel, there is even with English subtitles.
El desplazamiento volumétrico debe ser similar para ambos compresores ,de otra manera puede quedar una presión de succión muy baja lo que dañaría de forma prematura los flappers....no se si aplica para un inverter
This my best work that I learne for three years in school please any looking for a job in this settle..
Is the change compressor a higher one or the same 1/6 of the danfoss?
thank you for your good explanation
Glad it was helpful!
Muito bom esse serviço. Pra fazer a nova carga de R600 poderia ter calculado 40% da quantidade original de R134. Isso é o que usam em média. Abraços do Brazil.
Obrigado, meu querido irmão. Agradeço seu comentário do brasil
Not only the comments but also the compressor is made in Brazil 😂

2:01 It is not legal to discharge the refrigerant to the atmosphere in most countries ! Replacing R134 with R600 is not environmentally friendly unless you pump the old gas into a cylinder for disposal. In the US, illegal since 1995, the fine is upto $37,000 and there may also be a bounty of upto $10,000 for reporting the offence Your KZhead appears to say United States...
Sir, you are practical as well as theoretical,,and thinking person, perfect tidy job, perfect job done, awasome job sir,
Thanks
R134a has an gwp of 1430. 3,50kg of r134a is equivalent to 5t of co2 👌 A car dose 380 kg of co2 in one year
more globe warming I don't think there's that much in it. So he only filled it with 80g of R600 maybe a double or tripper would have been there. think 200-300g r134a (my car only contains 700g r134a)
Thanks a lot for this, really cool explaination ! Quick question: Don't we have a simple equivalent factor between R600a and R134a ? Basically we are not extending or shortening the length pipes significatively so why can't we just use "original manufacturer R134a weight" X (standard_equivalent_factor) ? Cheers !
انك مبدع حقا استمر فنحن نتعلم منك الكثير 🤍
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Keep it up
My pleasure
Great video! Very helpful and a good explanation of the process. I understand English is not your first language, so some future help for your English translations 🙂: It is not "smoke" coming out of the vacuum pump, it is moisture/steam. Smoke in English is just associated with something burning. The "Pinching Pin" would be better called the "Piercing Pin". It is penetrating a hole or piercing in English. Pinching is just to squeeze something together. Keep up the great work! You have a new subscriber!
Thanks it will help me alot🙏☺️
Yea.. The gas is not 0ne hundred thirty four A... You could shorten the video if you just said 134a. Are you using a translation to engrish ?.. oops i mean English.
Very instructional video. Very well done. Sir, about charging the system would have a different way so we dont have to wait this long? In our field, we cant spend so much time on one call. Thank you
Good video but please recover the old gas don't dump it to atmosphere!!! It makes so much damage to the environment
And where do you think the "recycling center" is in those places?
The gas can be resold to customers.
@@markae0no, it can't, there is ambient air in the coolant recovery line, so the recovery cylinder has air-moisture-coolant mixture, not pure coolant, you can't sell that to customers, it will ruin their appliances, and you can't flush the recovery line without releasing coolant to the atmosphere. One could've vacuumed the recovery line, but it's essentially open-ended, the pipe tap is unlikely to hold the vacuum. The recovery center could've ran a cryogenic drying and separation of the gases, however, the volume is unlikely to be large enough to make it economical.
R134a is used in many spray cans as the pressure (hairspray used lpg) like in keyboard air sprayer. So 134a gets blasted into the air all the time. Keep in mind, all these domestic refrigerants are less harmful than throwing chlorine in your pool, or the chlorine in your tap water...

A bit more info about wiring specifically how do you control the temperature inside the compartments. Did the new compressor come with a control board? Good explanation! Thank you. Would be good if there would be a way to prevent the old gas from escaping to the atmosphere as ist is hazardous for the environment. Greetings from Germany.
You need a nitrogen gas regulator, but you still did a fairly good job.
Thank you
There are no subtitles in Hebrew.
You might require a regulator and pressure guage to be able to show the pressure supplied to the system, something around 15-18 PSI should do
@@NzelumChukwuebuka only industries na em dey use this nitrogen flush system. For naija here, we make use of cooking gas (LPG) very good than nitrogen.

Measure other similar refrigerators. Some refrigerators heat up the windings in this way for about 1 minute, while the motor stops, if the refrigerator was not connected to the mains for some time, and this may not be a fault but a normal operating mode. Other factors decide whether it is also a mistake. Then the power factor of the inverter converter is practically 1, it cannot be 0.6, since the inverter consumption is exclusively active. This is then either wrongly measured, or it is a different misunderstanding in terms.
This is the first vdo I am watching of yours... Very well videographed AND explained. The voiceover does not sound computer generated at all. Loved and subbed 👍
How does the voice not sound CG? The tone emphasis is all wrong
@@mickwolf1077 as is the timing and several word choices. Understandable, but obviously very CG.
Either you are a liar or a thief! You can just like that change a "System" from one refrigerant to an other. There are factors that you Must keep in mind. There is a big difference in pressure between R-134a and R-600. Stop fooling people. No any time you have Not shown the pressure. Don't give me no "Damn" temperature, give me pressure. Why have those who invented the refrigeration system used 2 guages? ? ?
What about reclaim of the refrigerante first
If you recover the old R-12 or R-134 refrigerant, could you reuse it again (after filtering)? The old refrigerant is very expensive now?
Good tutorial
Unexpectedly informative video.
Please add more detail on the differences in the drier/why you are changing it, where and how you purchased the compressor/drier, what tools you are using. what kind of torch, type of flux and solder, how to safely use the compressed nitrogen, etc. Perhaps a video especially for that?
A very helpful tip to extend the life of the compressor is to add 50ml of sulphuric acid to the compressor before regassing. This reduces corrosion
After frig compartment meets 34 degrees do a frost-line adjustment charge on all small converted critical-charge cap-tube systems needing more or less gas than data plate indicates.
Did you know that venting refrigerant to the atmosphere is a crime? It is required to be recovered per EPA 608.
Yes, that's true.
Yes, this is horrible advice and you should not show this in a a video, you inspire others to do the same, amount of environmental damage from venting that refrigerant is more than you'll ever save from installing the inverter compressor. At least rent a recovery unit and recycle the r134A
Hope To get one in the future, And yes I would not recommend anyone to vent the refrigerant. As I don't have one. I had to vent to fix the unit.
It seems to me that there was not much R134a left in the unit, since there was only a very brief hissing noise when the line was cut, so comparable to the 'minimis' release allowed by epa, even if technically illegal.
EPA has no jurisdiction in India, just saying 😂😂😂
I literally do the opposite here in the United States and replace r600a with 134a. I'm thinking about using r401a (yes 401 not 410) It was made as a replacement for r12 . R12 is about 30% more efficient than r134a so that should lower head pressure.
Bro super can I fill r134a in R12 compressor for single door fridge.old compressor r 600a is fault so I have R12 compressor and can I recharge r134a gas to R12 .how much gas I want to install old 600 a is 37 grams
VERY NICE
Does inverter compressor use significantly less energy to cool the box? How is inverter compressor different from regular compressor? (Other than the type of coolant?) If inverter compressor can save much more energy, WHY aren’t these standard in all fridges & freezers now? If I take my fridge to a shop, can they do this?
Had you ever replace a constant speed compressor with an inverter one with all electrical and control circuit?
try cleaning the coils too, sometimes it helps
I hope this variable speed compressor is better than the one LG manufactures, as they are still having problems with them failing.
Have you ever thought of converting to an old school 134a compressor,,relay start....these lg Compressors are shit😂
So you just release the gas to the atmosphere. Good to see you care about environment. You deserve a medal.
134a has been used as a propellant in aerosol cans for years up until recently when it was phased out and replace with 152a. You're "canned air" was 134a until 2017.
Don't even try to communicate or reason with a climatard, they're brainwashed beyond any hope.
There are some countries where they just don't give 2 fks about the planet at all!!! This ID10T proves that by giving your comment a heart. I've added this "channel" to my "don't suggest" list.
I do care about the environment, The problem is that human creates an invention and then blames it himself. So we humans do have this nature. And I venting the refrigerant in the air is a mistake. Let me tell you a fact. In most of the Asian countries I have seen most of the people are unaware of the recovery cylinders, which is very bad. They on daily basis vent the refrigerants in the air. No regulations are made to stop harming the environment. Blondie SL its your opinion you put this channel in a no suggestion list. I will Humbly Respect that. And I in my opinion giving heart to the comments is too respect their opinions.

This is part of the bigger problem on this planet! People do crap to destroy it, all the while KNOWING what their CHOICES/ACTIONS are doing. NOTICE THE CLIMATE CHANG, especially in certain countries KNOWN for massive pollution, being hit with crazy temps 45C and above!!! So please don't try to say it was a mistake. It is not. I don't buy into people's excuses and BS. Each one of us has the responsibility to do everything that we can to LITERALLY save this planet. -EXCUSE- .... *CHOICE*
