I get you have limited time and you need to crank out content, but i learned almost nothing. this would have been a great time for an assistant to actually film the truck driving off road and through obstacles. i learned nothing about its capabilities off road i couldn't already have guessed. I will certainly watch the red cone video, but maybe this video should be named something else, since the other two trucks weren't in the video and you didn't really take this 'off-road' in any real sense. • It is cool, if I had more disposable income maybe. But I'd rather have the lightning I think. I like having a somewhat usable bed for HD runs. I thnk an XLT with extended battery to keep that price down a bit. Kind of absurd how much they charge for the larger battery though. Battery density isn't quite there yet for me on trucks. I'd rather have my XLT 2.7 ecoboost back if I were to get a truck again at this point in time, it worked well for what I needed. Even my Model 3 I get a bit of range anxiety in the winter, especially here in MN. I travel all over the state for work so having that piece of mind in cold temps with a gasser would be nice again. But I certainly like not having to worry about changing oil and other maintenance checks anymore. When battery energy density gets about 25-50% better and charging locations get closer to parity with gas stations, I'd love to get a truck like the lightning. The northern half of MN is pretty sparse for charging options right now.

      @sipher3516@sipher3516 Жыл бұрын
    • @@sipher3516 what you describe is one state of torque vectoring. If you have the ability to do that why not send different turning speed and torque levels to each wheel for improved high speed handling on the road, and tighter turning as well as better control off road. I don’t know, but if the Hummer could do dynamic torque vectoring you would think they would be advertising it instead of saying they have the much less capable rear locker.

      @larry4fire@larry4fire Жыл бұрын
    • @@larry4fire I think it is doing that when the locker is not engaged. What I meant was, when you engage the real locker, it locked the two motors to the same speeds.

      @sipher3516@sipher3516 Жыл бұрын
    • @@sipher3516 I don’t know more about this than anyone else. Hope you are right. But it strikes me as odd if you can individually control the two motors on the rear for speed and torque, why do you need a locking mechanism? One possible reason for a mechanical locker is to transfer the torque from the motor turning uselessly in the air to the other wheel, that wouldn’t happen with an electronic torque vectoring system. It would just shut down the motor if it sensed the wheel spinning in the air.

      @larry4fire@larry4fire Жыл бұрын

  • I thought the Hummer Ev came with the larger 19.2 KW level 2 onboard charger. With an 80 amp home circuit, overnight charging should be doable.

    @bradfordjhart@bradfordjhart Жыл бұрын
    • For the cost of installing an 80 amp circuit and custom outlet/plugs, you might as well spend a little more to get a high voltage level 3 charger installed and then use wires that won’t require She-Hulk to carry over and plug in to the truck.

  • A 37.1 foot turning circle is impressive for a railroad car like this, but its not all that impressive for off-roaders. A 4Runner does it in 37.4 feet without rear steer. This is one of those technologies that isn't so much about making it more capable as it is making it acceptable given its size. As for consumption. Yeah, its shit for an EV, but even 1.1 miles/Kwh is nearly 34 MPGe so still pretty great if you compare it to MPG.

    @PatrickRich@PatrickRich Жыл бұрын
    • @Frugal Family Living No question. My comment was in reference to the conspicuous consumption comment of the Hummer EV. Yeah, its a wasteful EV, but its really not that hard on energy compared to ICE, in fact its pretty great. I couldn't care less when Hummer EV owners run out of range. Even still, a 6 gallon tank at 34 mpg is still 200 miles. Still, anything that can off-road for 200 miles on 6 gallons would be amazing. Its too bad that you can't put a few more "gallons" in with Jerry cans.

  • “This trail doesn’t need a locked diff”…”the torque is jerky, and the tires spin if I don’t force it to go faster with momentum” I feel like you are stuck in a mindset of how the truck should be driven, and contradicting yourself in the process. You don’t remove two tires off a dual because it isn’t hauling/towing heavy, and you shouldn’t avoid locking the diff when the tires slip because the trail isn’t extreme.

    @nevada4086@nevada4086 Жыл бұрын
    • They were able to raise enough capitol by selling other vehicles in the TFL fleet that they didn’t need to consider selling the Lightning, even stating as such in a couple videos because they didn’t want to rush the review of the Lightning. I think they are finding the Hummer hard to acquire quickly with so many back orders, so GM lent them this unit to be able to compare directly to the Lightning while both are still hot topics for the KZhead algorithm.

  • Since the steering wheel isn't mechanically connected to the wheels it doesn't need to be a wheel at all. In fact theoretically you could drive an EV with something like an Xbox controller. The car doesn't care where it gets its input data from.

    @markdwill@markdwill Жыл бұрын
    • It’s 11500 ft-lbs at the wheels. Traditionally, torque is measured at the engine, not the wheels. However, when you measure it at the wheels, it’s multiplied because of the gearbox and the wheel itself. The bigger the wheel the higher the torque. Just like when you use a longer wrench, torque goes up.

    • That's the thing right? Eventually it's going to cost like a hundred bucks every time you need to charge this thing up. I wouldn't be surprised if the oil companies start branching off into the electricity industry. As far as the grid, I have little faith that there is any will anywhere to spend the necessary money to upgrade. On the other hand, maybe setting these aggressive goals for Evie adoption in 2035 will be the motivation that's needed to get the grid in shape. Instead of just kicking the can down the road, they have a solid date for when they will need to be able to make this happen.
