  • As a samoyed owner, I can tell you that they have different types of barks. The high-pitched bark is usually used when they want something and are not getting their way. The lower more bass bark is used when plastic bags fly through their backyard. They also howl and sing at 6am on a weekend.

    • Years ago, one of the members of the samoyed mailing list came home and his samoyed didn't run up to greet him like normal. After a bit of searching, he found his sam in the backyard with the patio door closed. This was strange since he'd definitely left him inside the house. Then he noticed that his TV was missing. Where the TV had been was a circle of dog toys. He eventually deduced what had happened. A burglar had broken into his home, and decided to steal the TV. While he was unhooking all the cables for the VCR, cable box, etc, his sam thought this was a new friend. He'd brought his toys to the burglar one by one, hoping he'd play. Eventually the burglar got tired of this, put the sam out in back, closed the door, and finished stealing the TV. So yeah, terrible guard dogs.

I used to bathe my dogs on a Friday night, walk them for about 4 hours, so they were just damp, sleep, get up the next day, comb them out a little bit, take them for another long walk, sleep, and then finish combing them out. They sure are cute dogs, and they have a very good personality for me anyhow, but they are an awful lot of work to have.

  • I had a privilege of having a samoyed when I was a kid. Was my first dog and he was specifically given to me to take care of, he was about 1,5 years old and could no longer stay at the kennel where he used to live as he was bullied by the other dogs, he also had cataract so he couldn't see that well. But he was my best friend growing up and I took care of him all by myself, all the brushing, washing, nail clipping and all that. I swear when he had his annual undercoat brushing, was this huge pile that could easily shape into another dog the same size. :D He lived a happy life till till the age of 12 after which he passed. I know it's a silly thing to say but when I pass away someday, I hope to reunite with all my dogs, past, current and future, and have that long walk with them all together.

  • Lol watching him refuse treats reminds me of the time we brought a dog trainer to the house to see if we could work on some issues. Our dog was NOT having it. At one point he offered a real nice treat, she took it, and then carefully spat it out on the ground. She did not refuse treats, we'd never seen her do this.

    • I had a Spitz who did this!! When he was pissed with someone or this one time my uncle bought him this brand of treats he hated, he'd take it when offered because courtesy and then spit it out elsewhere in the house 😭 One time when the uncle was visibly upset he didn't like the treat he ate one just to oblige him only to throw in up in the garden Lmaoo

    • Yeah its a stress thing. My girl is scared of absolutely everything and frequently refuses treats of all kinds. We finally had a break through with her car anxiety when we discovered that DQ fries were good enough that she would eat them instead of just flat out refusing or spitting them out. We have come a long with car anxiety since then xD

    • One time our yorkie was out of this treat flavor, so we got her a different flavor and gave it to her, and she grabbed it and then immediately set it on the ground and just looked back up at us like "so where's the ACTUAL treat?"

  • My Samoyed loves the sound of his own voice, but it is controllable except when he’s really excited. Most mornings we get big stories in the form of woo woos
