2 minute sequence where A.I. - Artificial Intelligence (Kubrick/Spielberg) goes past great movie to true masterpiece. [mild spoiler alert] Note: I do not own the rights. Simply posting in true appreciation of Stanley Kubrick's vision.

  • The atmosphere of this movie has something so unique to it. Something i never saw in any other movie. Something i can not explain. It's like watching something from the future and something from the past at the same time. It's maybe something about what they've done with the lightning and the way they post-processesd it. Everthing seems to be so sureal, like in a dark dream you once had as a littlte child but can't quite remember. I can't put my finger on it, but i love this atmosphere. Besides the unique atmosphere, this movie also delivers thought provoking questions like: What does it mean to be alive? What does it mean to be human? At what point can something be seen as a being, that is truly alive? Where do we draw the line with that? I will never understand why this movie gets so much hate and so little recognition. If you ask me, this movie should be an absolute classic.

    • Dont forget that Kubricks was the inventor of this movie, he and spielberg worked together for years on the script and plot it but was kubricks baby, based on a 1969 short called 'super toys last all summer long' by a different writer. Kubricks started thinking about making a movie out of it, roughly based on this in the 80's and spielberg beeing his friend communicated a lot about the idea for several years etc. Spielberg just finished his idea and work:) And the result was great anyway:) Kubricks waited and waited as he didnt think the technologies at the time was mature enough to visualize it. And he was probably right too. He died in 1999 and spielberg made the movie 1-2 years later. 2001, it would probably have been difficult to make in till example 1995. Kubricks was talking about this as future plans from late 80's. Im pretty sure that the 3 acts was kubricks idea+ several other things. but its not a contest i love both directors. Probably they contributed 50/50 on the script and plot But in some ways i consider this Kubricks last movie, since followed the development in mags and whatnot of since the 80's, waited a decade for it to be made but the idea was expressed by kubricks a decade before etc:)

  • For me, "A.I." is Steven Spielberg's masterpiece. I remember watching the movie on the theater. When this sequence started, the audience was in absolute silence, not sure if because of the beautiful cinematography, the haunting soundtrack, the intimacy created by Ben Kingsley's voice..., or because we were being aware, perhaps unconsciously, of witnessing one of the most magical moments in the history of cinema. Thank you very much for the upload.

    • @@TwilightLink77 I seriously doubt that "cgi in it's infancy" was the reason, because that didn't stop him into doing 2001. He passed it to Spielberg because he knew that, the way he indended the story to be told, it would work better with Spielberg more emotional skills of filmmaking, to bring balance to his more skeptical view.

  • Stunning visuals in all scenes for 19 years old, they spent a lot of money on this film due to the digital visual effects. These are not the earth robots mechas that are unearthing David. The take from the film is these mecha robots were sent to deep space missions and have evolved over time. Notice they were curious about David as if they found their beginnings like they found their missing link. For 2000 years there were no Mechas on Earth, so these Mechas clearly evolved away from Earth. We can suspect from this that an alien race who also evolved into a machine biological hybrid also helped the Mechas to achieve that goal. They then headed for Earth to see their beginnings as they are explorers.

Not devoid of life are those open spaces of heaven; There are hundreds of other caravans in them as well. Do not remain contented with this sensible world; Beyond it there are other gardens and nests as well. If thou hast lost one nest, what then? There are other places for sighing and wailing as well. Thou art an eagle; thy business is to soar in the empyrean; Thou hast other skies in which thou canst range as well. Be not entangled in this world of days and nights; Thou hast another time and space as well. MUHAMMAD IQBAL, Bal-e-Jibril

  • The scene where the highly advanced Mechas are traveling in that box shaped craft over the frozen city as the ethereal music is being played always made me trip out. Would be a perfect cover photo to have on a Pink Floyd album.
