People don't realize he wasn't trying to fight guys at there best cotto, Mosley ,Manny Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya but Oscar was bigger so I'll give him the benefit of a doubt there.. he fought Canelo when he was young drained him made him get down at 152... And then there's guys like Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez that were fighting at 147 to 154 at the time ..he flat out didn't fight them.. so yeah that's why people that watched him give Mayweather his respect but won't say he's the best of all time and put a Astrid next to his name

    • Nobody is saying this fight was not close, i dont think. Any fight with Shane Mosley is trouble. He was the real deal. His two wins against De la Hoya were close too. The only time i saw Shane give up was in the fight with Pacquiao. He suffered a knockdown (first time ever?) in rd 2 or something. Look for interview clips of Shane sitting next to DLH talking about Manny's legacy.

  • Sugar at 135 was a Cheat Code. He just couldn’t put the extra weight on his frame. Cotto is the only Spanish fighter that I liked. He was game for anyone and everyone. His skill level was ridiculous.

    • You are completely+moronically wrong. I consistently was able to spend time with Sugar Shane from 1998-2007. He regularly came to a gym I was a full time trainer at. He is a amazing person!! Went to his fights, private gatherings after fights, such a generous man. He killed himself to make the 135lb. lightweight division. He really likes to do hard resistance/weight training.He could not do any weight training to make the 135 lb.! None! After his big move to 147 he could finally resistance train! He went through a time of too much resistance training, slowing himself fighting at the 154class for a few years. He brought a trainer with him to the facility that I worked at, Daryl (?) . This 'trainer' wanted to train Shane to much like a bodybuilder, I know the training was dangerous for Shane.

  • Pretty much dead even, which is really impressive considering Shane was proooobably juiced to the gills. Cotto had so much more snap in him in those days, and his punch resistance was actually really good, much better than at 140. Mosley was a big puncher at 147 but Cotto took everything pretty well.

    • Margarito took a lot from Cotto after delivering that beating with cement-reinforced gloves.

      @Radrook353@Radrook353 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Radrook353 yepp,, he was never the same after that fight with Margarito's loaded gloves. And Pacquiao finished the job. Took a terrible beating from Pac-man to the point that Pacquiao stopped hitting him. Went to body shots with very few shots to his head in the last rds. But.. Pacquiao did punish Margarito for the full fight. Payback?? Probably was a little bit. It's no secret that Cotto and Pac-man where and prolly still are good friends.

    • @@keithcraft6697 the poetic justice was that Pacquiao damaged Margarito's orbital bone so bad that it made it easy for Cotto to break it again in their rematch. Cotto broke it again so no state athletic commission in the U.S. granted Margarito the right to fight on U.S. soil for safety reasons.

  • The love triangle between cotto, Mosley, and margarito is so interesting to me. Cotto beats Mosley. Margarito potentially cheating tkos cotto. Margarito definitely not cheating gets smoked by an even more aged Mosley. Makes you wonder how things would’ve went for Miguel if he never had to trade fair punches with plaster
