This video covers how to convert a static mesh asset in my scene over to a destructible asset. There is a lot you can do in Unreal Engine with destructible creation and simulation and this video is a simple beginner setup of a smaller asset.
I hope you find this helpful and let me know down below if you have any questions or topics you would like to see covered in future videos!

  • That was really helpful for someone who used to use Apex Destruction in UE4. Works awesome.

  • Hello, do you know how to convert the fracture to mesh while keeping the explode amount? When i convert a fractured sphere to a mesh, it goes back to a sphere not exploded

  • How do I add sound do I just make a bp and add it? I also want it to disappear after a few seconds so it’s not just lying there all game. I’ll have to try this in a bp and see how it operates

  • When I make a new geometry collection and save it, the model disappears. I don't get the new material. Fracture does work but when I switch back to select mode the model is still gone. I've also used the default cubes that come with the first person template, and that doesn't work either. I think it's a problem with the attributes or some setting, but I don't know where to look. Is it the materials not having the geometry collection flag set? I did that and it still doesn't work. I want to use this feature.

    • Same. Any news on this being/getting fixed?

    • @@SaltGrassStudios No news yet. But I have been able to do some work with chaos. I started a clean 5.x project and I was able to get the chaos stuff to work. I have a feeling with not that much evidence that the problem might be the settings in my 4.x- 5.0 project but I moved on to other issues. Thanks for asking.

  • This tool has potential but in its current state is just too broken in how Epic have implemented it; you can't have more than one material on the object, it carries over fractures into new iterations even if you delete the geometry collection and it permanently destroys the mesh (forces it to read the collection) once you do it once, meaning you can't apply new layers of breaks. So I'll be sticking with Apex for now, but great tutorial regardless and I do see the potential. They just really need to clean up the ridiculous implementation of those collections. Using a material slot and overwriting all the others is never a solution.
