  • it would be interesting to see how much the maintenance costs in comparison to the v10 r8!

    @sesto194@sesto1946 ай бұрын
    • Based on the recent video of car throttle on everything wrong with their s6 v10 - the maintenance can be scary - think they mentioned plugs and coils being like £800 + VAT and labour. I am always torn on whether the supercars are worth it, considering the performance you can get from something like an rs3. I do think the Gen 1 V10 Manual cars will hold value and be worth something in the coming years, as there is a generation of people now that have grown up with that maybe being a dream car and now have the money to buy

      @sexualsteve@sexualsteve6 ай бұрын
    • Unsure of the engine parts like camshafts and valves but coil packs and injectors don't cost that much for 2 extra cylinders. Pretty much the same reliability with the v8 and v10 but the v10 is more tightly packaged so harder to work on. Both are solid choices but I've heard an r8 v10 with a racing manifold and custom valved exhaust, sound alone is worth it.

      @VexxedSR@VexxedSR6 ай бұрын
    • @@VexxedSRyou're wrong mate the v10 that's found in the r8 uses different components entirely and are found on much more limited cars such as huracans therefore price tag goes up. The v8 in the r8 can be found in loads of cars on the other hand and much more readily available. Coilpacks for example are only £25 a piece

      @MikelDog@MikelDog6 ай бұрын
    • The V8 is also considerably lighter, and you can easily get it up to the same power figure as the v10. Sure, the v10 has a pretty incredible soundtrack, but you can get the v8 sounding pretty great too. @@MikelDog

      @txl420@txl4206 ай бұрын
    • V10 R8s are no more expensive to maintain than the V8s and likely will end up costing less than early V8s due to things like the rear control arms and the engines not coking as badly. The important thing when buying ANY R8 is to get a proper pre delivery inspection done as the difference between a good and bad one could mean 10k+ in maintenance and repairs. R8s are now at that point to where early models are getting cheap and bought by people who don't do the necessary maintenance which means as time goes on there's going to be a massive delta in quality between cheap ones and ones that are properly loved by their owners.

    @TheMacleod1972@TheMacleod19726 ай бұрын
  • Good video unfortunately Chris seems to have fallen into a couple common R8 traps. The first is Audi main dealers. Just don't. They're beyond usless. @REPerformance is where you should take it as Ricky and his crew are the best there is when it comes to R8s. As far as suspension you can get magrides rebuilt by Nagengast in Poland for a fraction of the cost of new units and the turnaround is much faster than ordering Audi OEM. Whlist being cheap and common standard BC coilovers ride terrible. This is mainly due to them have reversed the spring rates. If you go that route you can order different springs from a company like Swift but even then they need to be properly set up to feel good. By the time you've invested that much you're roughly at the same price as OEM passive dampers which is really the better option.

    • Yes.. bc coils are like some of the worst. They also rust…

      @dylan-nguyen@dylan-nguyen6 ай бұрын
    • @@dylan-nguyen That's a load of shite. BC coilovers are some of the worst? So you're just going to act like JOM, MaxpeedingRods, FK, Raceland, Stance, AP etc don't exist? BCs are nowhere near the worst. There's a reason why so many motorsport professionals use them. They're a very good coilover for the price.. Sure, brands like Eibach, H&R or Bilstein are maybe better quality or comfort in the same price point, but with the trade off of not having the adjustability. And there are superior coilovers for track use like Nitron, KW, Ohlins etc. if you want to spend 3x the price.. But for what they are. BCs are a very good coilover for daily driving. Also, I've had BCs on my daily B7 Passat for 6 years and they haven't rusted. Maybe if you never clean your wheel wells they'll rust, in which case, any coilover you buy will rust.

      @shona5512@shona55126 ай бұрын
    • @@shona5512 a) I was talking about for Audis and the key word was *one of* not *the literal worst* 🤦‍♂️ b) there is enough anecdotal evidence for them rusting that I will never use them

      @dylan-nguyen@dylan-nguyen6 ай бұрын
    • @@shona5512 for R8s the only way you could do worse than standard BC coilovers is knock-off magrides from China. Like I said above they literally reversed the spring rates.

      @dirtygrill@dirtygrill6 ай бұрын
    • @@dirtygrill If you're buying BC's or any coilovers and you're not changing the spring rates to suit the car that you're driving, you're a bit of a moron in the first place. It took me three attempts of changing the spring rates on my Passat to get something that was a good combination of comfort and handling. If you can't afford a super car, the added expense of having to change spring rates shouldn't be too much of an issue.. especially considering the amount of money you are saving from not having to pay for Magride.

I looked at coilovers and in all honesty I should have done that and kept the car rather than sell once it was out of warranty. Also had similar (the same?) brakes. They warped a lot- did a full replacement (£1400 the fronts) and then they started going again. Any high speed slowing would just warp them. You can get ceramic- only a £7k option lol.
