  • This video demonstrates what I've learned from the Economist in 30 years of reading it: the definition of political Conservatism (or Liberalism in the classic/European sense) is having an endless set of statistics on hand that vindicate the left yet sticking to your guns in truly comical and anal retentive intellectual contorsions. Superb writing and data collection to be sure. Ideal for quick reads of single articles while on the toilet.

  • When you say Alabama legalized interracial marriage in 2000 some viewers might be misled into believing that interracial marriages weren't allowed in Alabama before this. They were legalized nationwide in 1967. The vote to change the Alabama constitution was only symbolic, but of course not unimportant.

    • Congrats: most jingoistic comment here. And coming from the country whose middle name is meddling.

  • So basically you learned how to become even more of a neoliberal. Congratulations. The Economist is the Pravda of the Corporatists, I encourage you to read it as though they may have an agenda. Because, surprise surprise, they do.

    • Also, Merkel's response is pretty rich, coming from a country that has tried to crush Russia multiple times. They brought desolation to Russia in the 1910s, a second time in the 1940s, and both times paid the price for it. Her statement is classic Russophobia, at once trying to portray the slav as a pitiable figure, while trying to pair this with making Putin as dangerous as Hitler.
