@@0Synergy True as
@@0Synergy I'd like to correct you here, Godzilla has a screen time of 8 and a half minutes in Shin Godzilla. Godzilla 2014 has a screentime of 10 minutes and a half, which is more then most Japanese Godzilla movies and is the least screentime he gets in American Godzilla movies. I get why some people dislike the american movies and the 2014 version was absolute dog water but screentime isnt a good reason when every American Godzilla movie has more Godzilla screen time then almost every Japanese Godzilla movie.

the moment in Godzilla 2014 at the Honolulu airport when Godzilla takes the first step and the whole airport goes silent is still *chef's kiss*
Just that whole scene is beautiful, from the tsunami to the flare guns to the airport just all amazing. It literally brought a tear to my eye when I saw it in theaters. Little did I know how much I'd be teased the rest of the runtime lol.
They absolutely nailed every scene where Godzilla showed up, when he comes ashore to battle the male MUTO, to him arriving at San Francisco, to the goddamn jump scene. The only part where I will criticise is about the Characters. I love their personality and their acting, but I do not like how generic they are and the timing where Joe Brody dies is astonishingly infuriating. The only one I will give pity points for is Serizawa, for reason I can't explain.

@@UpFromTheDepths88 Here's a question. With this running time of almost 3 Hours & 20 minutes, how many various combinations of Godzilla movies can be watched in or under this length of time?
It might be the nostalgia talking but I always really enjoyed watching Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. I liked the slow build-up of the story and that godzilla wasn't front and center right away. It was a nice change of pace for the series and it focused more on the character story than anything else. Ebirah's introduction at the beginning of the movie was very ominous for a kid. And I will never forget the look on the guys face when they find the sleeping godzilla
Right that film while not as good as the others it still a classic and fun Godzilla movie in my book
I remember the American Version of that was called Godzilla vs The Sea Monster😂
Kiryu, for me was always my favorite design for Mecha G. His bulky yet streamlined look felt like it was more armor like than a robot designed to mimic the likeness of Godzilla, and it was armed to the teeth. Maybe not like Mecha G1 armed, but it was something different and i loved how some of the metallic elements looked muscular. Almost like a Samurai Godzilla in my mind so to speak.
Possible hottake ahead: As for the anime trilogy: I will admit wholeheartedly I absolutely hated it. He says it would be to get you thinking but frankly they were so on the nose and preachy with a lot of the themes and tone of the films that it didn’t require much thought. The characters who grew died. The main character died accomplishing nothing as he didn’t get his world back. He didn’t live to grow above his desire for revenge, dying for nothing and wasting everyone else’s previous sacrifice. The fact all 3 films work to a goal, only for the goal to mean nothing or accomplish nothing but accrue loss can be fine but questions what the point is. Their technology lost. Mecha G city - lost. Their spaceship/station, lost. All important characters - Dead. Just harkens the question of “why bother making stakes if in the end all the struggles, tribulations, and triumphs equate to absolutely nothing and it essentially ends as it began if not with less as again almost all of them, if not all of them die”
The scene where the boulder hits Minya in the face will always make me laugh.
Hot potato
You have to admire Toho's determination on keeping the Godzilla franchise going. And kudos for Up From The Depths for this bio great work!
Wish they would make more currently. The American Godzilla movies are ok but they just don't reach that itch like the Japanese ones do
@@Revealingstorm. Godzilla vs Kong and 2014 were good tho
Whenever Americans attempt to make a godzilla movie it hurts my soul because of the awful job they do and don't represent godzilla anywhere near as good as the Japanese do. Toho should stick to making godzilla movies and Americans should stick to remaking movies of past best movies that genuinely brought joy to the audience and shit all over them just like Hollywood has been doing for 20+ years at this point. Seriously how many woke movies and awful remakes do the american people need before they realize oh hey we can't make a good movie anymore even if our goddamn lives depended on it.
@@NinthRomance you done venting? Anyway of course they don’t do it as good as the Japanese, they didn’t create Godzilla. Which is why they are going for a completely different theme.

REALLY glad he brought up how KOTM is at times muddled by the weather effects and darkness blocking out the Kaiju fights. I work at a theatre, and when I stood at the back to wait for the movie to finish so I could clean up after the audience, I was disappointed by how it all looked like Godzilla and Ghidorah were just sloshing around in muddy concrete.

I didn't mind
Never in my life would I have ever thought I'd hear the phrase "meta complexity" used to describe Godzilla's Revenge. Never mind the fact that it's use would make sense.
As a Godzilla fan, I rate the original and Shin Godzilla the highest. They both have meaning to them that involves the Japanese political and social climate on top of man-made disasters that affect more than just people. The original Godzilla and Shin Godzilla both touched on the side effects of humans playing God and not caring about other forms of life. Shin Godzilla, especially, took on a more realistic approach with Godzilla by making his body unstable, in constant pain, nonstop evolving and having him form powers out of self defense/will to live. As much as I love monster fights and destruction, the other Godzilla movies was loosely base on the original where they was a giant monster dinosaur with safe nuclear powers that did not harm the environment for humans to live.
I was shocked to find out that the original Godzilla came out only 9 years after the war. The uncensored Japanese original was unavailable in the U.S. until the 2000s because of its metaphor of Godzilla as a nuclear bomb (Hiroshima/Nagasaki) and its strong anti-war, anti-nuclear message. There's an eye-opening documentary called "Theaters of War (2022)" that explains that the U.S. military has a say in what Hollywood can or cannot include in its films, and one of the examples they mentioned was Godzilla, in which a monologue by Ken Watanabe explaining a victim's suffering from nuclear weapons was omitted. That angered and saddened Japanese fans, because the anti-war, anti-nuclear message was the key point of the film.
Honestly the original Gojira and Shin Godzilla almost feel like they're from a different film series. They're just so tonally and thematically different. Every movie that came out between these two is just a big dumb movies with giant monsters fighting (the American ones included, which are even bigger and even dumber). They're ever entertaining and fun, but that's exactly it. I'd never describe Gojira or Shin Godzilla as "fun". They are meant to be taken as serious pieces of art with serious things to say, rather than just entertainment. This is why I sort of view Shin Godzilla as a natural bookend to the Godzilla franchise. Aside from perhaps Return of Godzilla, it's the first one in 6 decades to really even attempt to be something as thoughtful and serious as the original.
@@chiprahnI totally get where you’re coming from and I think those 2 are undoubtedly the best. I wouldn’t say Godzilla (2014) was just a silly dumb romp though. It stayed true to the original in keeping the monster closely tied in with the nuclear themes and radioactivity. Also the tension the entire film builds in teasing your view of him/the absolute size and scale was a form of art in itself. Obviously not on the same level as the other 2 you mentioned but a very strong entry
Thoughts on minus one? That's my all time favorite one now

Honestly Godzilla(2014) is my favorite despite having seen all the new ones(2014-2021). And that's because everytime Godzilla appears it makes it obvious he's the king and he's in control of the situation. Almost if not every time he comes on screen all music and sounds get cancelled out by his arrival onto the screen. For example: At the air port where his massive foot appears, the moment it hits the ground every sound goes away except for him. Almost every time he's on the screen everyone stares and very little don't look. And he's just so menacing compared to the other movies. He appears almost entirely in the dark making him even scarier, and having the scariest(imo) roar amongst the new movies too. Sorry for the paragraph just wanted to let that out:) Edit: I haven't watched Shin Godzilla yet
Just stumbled on this. Fascinating and a lot of fun! Thanks for all the effort you put into this. Some of the early video took me back to my childhood.
King Caesar is one of my favorite Kaiju, but I love how he’s seen as this all mighty being who would defeat Mechagodzilla, but until Godzilla shows up, his just gets his butt kicked for the entire time!

For those of you reading this comment and are big fans of Godzilla, I'm not a fan but I loved the 1970's cartoons from Hanna Barbera and my 1st Godzilla movie was that 98 mess. I misunderstood the 2014 Godzilla so watched it again before watching the King of the Monsters. I actually enjoyed the 2014 Godzilla the second time I watched it but felt let down by the last Godzilla movie King of the Monsters. Perhaps I should watch that again as well. As a whole to this KZhead video, I grew up thinking Godzilla was our friend because of the 70's cartoons, so to learn Godzilla is in fact an enemy to human life came as a genuine shock to me through this video. I have to admit though, I do love Godzilla's roar. Thanks for this time line. It has been a genuine learning curve.
Godzilla King of the Monsters was dog****. I'm shocked he gave it a 4 star review. The human elements are insultingly nonsensical, and the special effects are a step down from Godzilla 2014. Worst Godzilla movie of my lifetime
This video is so long it makes Zach Snyder’s justice league look like it’s one minute, love how you took your time to make this, LONG LIVE THE KING #TEAMGODZILLA
Enjoyed this so much! many thanks for creating it. Excellent, clear writing and narrating style (i so appreciate the lack of repetitive verbal mannerisms so common to film bloggers), good analysis, and we have a lot of favorites in common. A real treat.
lol, I like how watching the Showa era Godzilla is basically watching the suit wear out :D Also, kudos for making a frickin 3+ hour youtube video with less ads that most 10 min videos!
Magnificent work! I have seen these all individually (and occasionally returned to some of them when I needed a quick G fix), but the option to have them all in one compilation is just great. Thanks so much for this!
I will always remember seeing Destroy all monsters at the Drive-in in Redwood City Ca in the 70's I was maybe 10 at the time. I saw the Black and White Godzilla with Raymond Burr. My Favorite is the Latest Godzilla Vs. King Kong ! Great Job !
These are really wonderful reviews. I have never been that interested in godzilla, but you're way of relating it all really drew me in
3 hours!!!! Yes!! I know what I am watching while I make breakfast this week!!! 😎😁
Same
Hahah same
Now I can’t wait to get home from work and watch some of these. Thank you for truly bring my love of these movies back
You mad man actually did it. You just have my deepest respect for ehat piece of art you made here with this Video.
Epic Godzilla film documentary from Up From The Depths. I've been a Godzilla and Kaiju fan since the mid/late 70s. This is the best breakdown of the films history. I salute you sir 🍻
I've already watched every single one of your reviews, but I'm gonna watch this anyways!
Thank you for all your wonderful reviews. They have been truly instrumental in helping me get into and love Godzilla and other kaiju films in general.
I remember being IN LOVE with godzilla when i was a little kid and would always go to hollywood videos and blockbuster every friday, to put my dad on another godzilla movie. And at the same time. I was watching Cinemassacre’s monster marathon, so this is where my love for horror movies began. A great collection of all your movie summaries is great to watch and brings me back!
By the way. Every time you say you’re name I start singing the song 😂 Up from the depths, 30 stories high 🎶
Quality work my friend. Lovely to see such a intelligent and knowledgeable breakdown of Godzilla's history. Genuine passion.
Now THIS monumental upload is a gift for a Sunday! Love it
Awesome compilation and Being a child of the 60's, I had a fondness for the big guy... You really break down the previous installments, many of them, unseen here in the U.S...I loved the 1998 Godzilla, for its effects...The 2014 was the first time my desire for a BIG Gojira was satisfied but, it was too drama-ee for me though...The Shin Godzilla, is an amazing addition to the franchise. The government ramping up departments to deal with the social issues, was an interesting slant...And When he charged up and let loose; i was actually flabbergasted. It was perfectly modern. Thanks for the upload...subbing etc...:)
The character arc of learning how to pronounce Ifukube's name is beautiful
Yay, now I have an excuse to watch all of these again! All jokes aside, this is going to help immensely whenever I want to watch a specific review. Dealing with YT'S playlist system was not very fun, because they keep switching around. But now, thank you for making it more convenient :)
Right now, were on a marathon with my brother, we're about to start Biollante, enjoying everything so much so far
Your review style along with thoughtful commentary are very refreshing. You've earned yourself a subscriber. Looking forward to viewing more of your content.
The 1992 Godzilla vs. Mothra has a special place in my heart, because it has BY FAR the greatest version of that tiny twins song in it.
I just wanted to say I've always really appreciated the name of your channel. My first exposure to Godzilla came right at the end of the Shows era. Just as I was first meeting Big G he was taken away from me, and without cable I had no way to see any more. The Hanna Barbera Godzilla was all I had during the long drought.
YES IVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS
For all the reviews I've seen about Godzilla, this is definitely the best!
Godzilla vs Gigan is my favorite Godzilla movie. I watched it in middle school and the human story is actually enjoyable for me which a lot of Godzilla movies get wrong. I usually just skipped to the monster scenes. I never noticed the fight scenes being stock footage because I was limited to watching the few Godzilla movies that my blockbuster store had whenever I had the rare chance to find it available to rent at all. And biggest of all, Gigan was a badass and my favorite rival monster from the whole series. When blockbuster was shutting down, I was able to buy the copy that I’ve rented so many times before. I was never any happier lol Side note, I watched the 1998 American Godzilla when I was 10 on vhs tape. Except for the monster scenes I found it very boring and didn’t really understand what was going on. Watching it again as an adult tho I was very surprised and actually really like it. Is it my favorite Godzilla movie? No, but definitely a lot better than people give it credit for. If you don’t take it seriously it’s pretty fun to watch. When Shin Godzilla came out, I just graduated high school and was in an incredibly deep depression. I didn’t know it was out until I randomly decided to go to the movie theater and saw the movie on that day’s schedule. This was my very first time watching Godzilla in a real theater. I bought my ticket and was the only one in the theater. I sat in the very front seat and I became a kid again as I sat there watching the film. It was the first time in years where I was truly happy.
Golly! Willikers! That's my afternoon settled. I _was_ going to play video games, but now.... I need another cup of tea!
Invasion of Astro Monster is usually the one I use to introduce the series to new people. I think it’s fairly approachable and understandable. It’s a true slapper!
Shin Godzilla was the only Godzilla film I had to watch twice in a row... it blew my mind so much!
Easy the best godzilla movie
@@whtunderdog5378 Maybe the best movie in the series, but not the best Godzilla movie.
Doctor: you have 3hrs19 minutes to live Me: *begins playing this video *
LOL, me
Sorry. You got an add
Extremely well done, great memories of my childhood and my friend GODZILLA!!! Thank you 🙏🏼
I've watched the entire set twice now, and about to start on the third. Great stuff. Wish they'd come up with some new ones.
I remember the holiday marathon of these movies that always came on around Thanksgiving day. I used to watch for hours. I still find them once in a blue moon playing on Freeform or Rey networks. I've seen them all including the newest versions.
All of your G reviews in one giant marathon! What can I other say than THANK YOU! ❤️
wow! stomped movies?!
@@ShinZprime yes sir🤙🏻
I watched the first 4 minutes the other day when uploaded and knew my day was going to be interrupted too often for me to sink in and watch this as it should be. I am so happy I waited and kept it in my notifications and marked watch later so it would stay on screen every time I opened YT. I had a migraine today so it was ringers off shades drawn and I enjoyed every minute along with your soothing voice and as it ends I am actually feeling better. Thank You so much for combining all of your reviews and thoughts on one of my childhood staples. (50+ here)
Godzilla's givin me such joy and wonder throughout my entire childhood to adulthood! I can give him three hours of my time!
The amount of work you've put into this! Respect bro!
You are one insane man for this, I legit thought this was a Godzilla ranking. Glad I subscribed
