When the price is "Please Call", you know it's too much.
It turns me off when a seller doesn't list price. List the prices sellers..... And don't say if one has to ask can't afford it. "A fool with their money, soon depart".
Soon as i win the big lottery, i will let you know.
I wish Van Bortels actually understood that. I'm actively looking for a FEW different aircraft, but every one of their ads is "please call". That is immediately a warning sign. I've got money burning a hole in my pocket but if you aren't going to list a price in the ads, my money goes elsewhere.
That is Van Bortel's MO. They never publish prices unless it is an older used or non Cessna model. They either want you to connect with a sales person so they can establish a relationship with you (called 'forcing sales through contact'), do not want their competition to know their prices, or remove the 'customer disqualifier' psychology element whereby a potential customer can't just shop price. Those really interested will call. Those that are not (tire kickers) won't.
Craig Libby unfortunately as someone who’s entire world is retail pricing and customer acquisition, this is counter intuitive and is costing them way more sales then it’s making them. Long gone are the customer relations components of sales people. In the modern world, people need instant gratification when it comes to pricing. Could you imagine car dealerships with no advertised pricing? This is an failure of epic proportions. It doesn’t create tire kickers, it invites them.
I knew Darryl would be involved when I saw a video from you on the TTx! Good to see his expertise on the airframe captured for the audience here. Keep the videos coming. You've got a unique channel among the hundreds of aviation channels here.
Just subscribed a few days ago! All your videos are great! The set up and production of the videos is spot on. I like getting to know each airplane and the people flying them.... then you get to go flying!! They are very entertaining/ informative to watch!
I sold my Beech Travelair 7 years ago and watching your flying brings back great memories. Thanks so much. Dave in Phoenix (KDVT Airport), and "YES", I miss flying so much!
Love the Columbia I prefer it over the Cirrus, pity they stopped production. I like the new camera with air speed and heading data. prefer to see the speed in knots instead of MPH. In Australia MPH is old hat. The only thing that is annoying is the GIANT Clip on the centre of the dash, It looks HUGE. Keep the videos coming
I found VanBortel great to deal with when I sold my 400. Miss that plane - shrinks distances very comfortably and wonderful to hand fly if you're a stick/rudder fan.
I traded my 182 for a 400 in 2017 with VanBortel. Great people, easy transaction, I love the 400. I'm a cessna guy. I fly round trips regulary between cape cod and south florida. 175 hours last year...
My thought exactly. Houston to South Florida for me.
Next time ya go to south Fl can I come with ya???
I too am a Cessna Guy. Do you think Cessna should replace the 172 Skyhawk with the 177 Cardinal, to include properly rated HP, Jet A power-plant/T-handle throttle, push button start and optional BRS? Just makes sense as far as I'm concerned...for what its worth.
how does the 400 ride compared to the 182? Is it a lot smoother and easier to fly?
@@raybowles8587 ride is much better. it's easy to fly. the engine management is more complicated being a turbo. it's very fast and flies really high which i love to do. loved the skylane too, great airplane.
It is great to see you fly Bobby!
Very nice ride and it seemed fairly quiet in the cockpit. The avionics are awesome and I felt it is very similar to the Cirrus. Used to live right near this airfield but my has that are grow! Thanks again Bobby!
Nice aircraft - I enjoyed learning about the plane characteristics from the Pilot's perspective and the comparison between other aircraft. Like the performance and really impressed with TTX. Great knowledge from Darryl at Van Bortel.
I worked at the service center in ICT... I loved seeing these come in
Loving this channel Bobby! Seeing that you're from DFW, and so am I, it's cool to see all the local airports and fly in neighborhoods. I have a teenage daughter who wants to be a pilot and is about to get involved with the Young Eagles program thanks to your channel. P. S. Where's Laura and the puppies?
A ttx with retractable gear would be cool. Especially if it wasn’t the same price as 700 copies of my car.
@Sal Vastola A thousand lol
Total neophyte here, as a kid my uncle would take me up in his Tri-Pacer and let me point it around the sky. Fast forward a LOT of years and with my kids grown and gone I'm looking to go for that Private Pilot license I've coveted for many years. I'd love to see your take (And possibly interviews) on how to select an instructor/flight school. Love your videos BTW!
Very impressive plane and I liked how the pilot explained everything very well done thank you.
what a solid aircraft thanks for the video and Daryl pitch nice flight.
Nice plane and good test flight. I really liked the salesperson Darryl. Seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy. I'm not in the market right now, but I'd definitely buy a plane from him. I've never spoken with anyone from Van Bortel, but after "meeting " Darryl and seeing their hangar, I feel much more positive about that company. Thanks for the video.
Great plane and review, I ended up going with a 400 last month but purchased through HPA since they are more transparent with pricing.
Great video Bobby. Been looking at these pretty seriously so I was psyched for this video.
My wife and I almost bought a TTX last summer. Someone got their deposit in right before us though. : ( Anyway, it was a fantastic airplane! Easy to fly and not overly complex compared to our Cherokee 180. In many ways it was easier due to lower pilot workload. It was FAST, slippery, and had amazing climb performance. For me it was as easy to land as the cherokee also. It’s the best airplane I’ve ever flown, hands down! P.S. Van Bortel needs more videos like this! The quick walk-arounds are nice, but this is fantastic!! Still in love with the TTX!!!! (Also, please include prices in your listings! We are not going to call about every aircraft listing. Seeing a price right away helps potential customers refine the list of potential aircraft they may purchase. Please include prices!)
Sorry you are so rich.
John Collins you’re watching these videos because you like these things. You’re a little upset that you can’t afford them, and maybe wish you could, but since you can’t you just spit venom at people who can? Despising others for having something you yourself want to have. I’m guessing if you had more financial means you would just give it all away so you weren’t “the evil rich guy”. Few things are more pathetically hypocritical than envy. Don’t be that guy. My brother-in-law owns an Eclipse 500 and a Citation. Do I make him out to be an asshole because he can afford something I can’t? No. Because that would make me the asshole.
I do like your videos! I love flying. Only 38 hours into it though. You are a classy guy and I appreciate that. Sorry about my comment. After a few beers, I shamed myself.
John Collins it happens. So you’re learning to fly, that’s awesome! Keep plugging away. Every hour counts! You should be getting close to that check ride! Unless you’ve already checked that box, then congrats!!! If you have any questions I have tons of resources and recommendations that got me through! I kept at at and got my private in airplanes, and instrument and commercial in helicopters. And I’ve flown a fair diversity of aircraft. My mission has changed so I’m no longer in the market for a Cirrus or TTX. Getting a light sport weight shift trike instead in a few months. Light sport is a much more affordable avenue as far as training and day to day costs go, but the aircraft can be pricey compared to some of the perfectly good but aging Cessnas and pipers out there. However, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel... there is currently a proposal being considered by the FAA to expand the light sport category to include aircraft up to 3600 lbs, so you would be able to exercise sport pilot privileges in smaller GA aircraft. That would be a big advantage to aviation giving access to less expensive aircraft to sport pilots! And nice Camaro by the way!
Keep these videos coming Young Man!
Lancair IV to Columbia 400 to Cessna 400 to Cessna TTx. That original Lancair aircraft design has certainly evolved over the past 20 years. Nicely done Bobby!
Not a Lancair IV. Not even close. The original idea was to take the ES to certification but even that needed a complete rework.
I test-flew one of these, it has better controls than anything I’ve flown before...with the exception of an Extra 300L. It’s pushrods, not cables. Loved EVERY moment.
I own a Columbia 400 and everything Darryl said is true. I love this plane.
how much did they cost when they were called Columbia?
That thing looks like a Lexus in the sky! Congrats
Love the displays on the video! Great job!
Very well done video. A joy to watch. Thank you.
Great video i loved the dash cam with the HUD and the under tail cam is a must do now. It was cool seeing the air brakes in action. 👏🏼🤠👍
Very pretty plane. But at the end of the day, I think it sadly didn't make it due to the Cirrus. And for those of you that say the Cirrus is the best because of the parachute, yes it is nice. But if I'm not mistaken the reason they originally added the parachute was because the CIrrus could NOT get certification for spin recovery. So keep in mind most accidents are pilot induced so you need to fly the plane and not rely on a parachute.
I was torn up trying to decide between the Columbia and the Cirrus G2. Wound up purchasing a G2 mainly because of the rarity of the Columbia 350 (I didn't want a turbo) and I found a very nice G2 right at my home airport. I still feel a tug of (Oh Damn-it) every time I see a Columbia or a TTX or hear another pilot announcing his aircraft type "Columbia", "Corvallis", or "Cessna 400". The parachute did play a part in my choice, and you could say it was the "straw" that tipped the balance in my choice, or to be more honest, made me not regret getting the Cirrus instead of the Columbia. The Columbia/TTX is an absolutely beautiful aircraft, I love the large tail with the swept shape, the long nose and swept shape of the windshield, and the cockpit structure styling. I think the side stick might be a bit more fun to use vice the side yoke of the Cirrus. Doodles, Did you wear that "Columbia" shirt especially for this video?
Bought my first aircraft from Van Bortel. Randall (Sales) and Daryl (Service) have been great! Own serial number 2 of Lancair Columbia 350. The plane is awesome!
I’m always surprised when people don’t let you feel the controls a little bit, this one was an exception.
Cool video, and nice plane, but man, $700k for 1000lbs useful sure seems like a lot of cash for not a lot of capacity.
yes must be only 30K ¤ plane this capacity and stufs, and range.
This plane isn’t Made for hauling, it’s for traveling
Get a cirrus
This plane isn’t designed for making large hauls. It is designed to get you distance very fast. The plane is worth the money.
Compared to the new DA50RG (1.3 Mio. USD) it’s a bargain!
When they don't put the price and say, call I immediately go somewhere else
EXACTLY!! One wonders why they need to HIDE the price. It enrages me to no end when they try to play this game!! Even if the price is "negotiable" they can put a price, and then say "$_____ or best offer" Just like you, I *_NEVER_* respond to these "call for price" ads, and I also encourage everyone I know to do the same!
It always drove me crazy too. The sellers do it to make money. For example if the owner says that he wants this plane sold for $350,000 the seller is going to try to sell it for $370,000. It is just for them trying to make more money
I do the same with job advertisements where the wage is "competitive". Imagine if on my resume for qualifications and experience I simply put "competitive". Anyhoo, the price of an aircraft is easily resolved with google. This dreadful aircraft is an eye-watering $750,000. I'd be getting a DA42-VI for that kind of money and staggeringly the twin with retractable gear is just as fast and MORE fuel efficient. Anything with a Continental engine needs a swerve. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_400
@@sparta3d229 offer 10%-15% less.
I love all the features of the Cessna TTx. I haven't seen a single engine airplane with speed brakes. Pretty cool feature for speed reduction. In my opinion, it is the complete package in an airplane. It can handle a variety of missions with relative ease! My preference is a center yoke but the side stick gives you more room in the cockpit. It would be easy to transition to a Cirrus from the TTx. Love your shows with the interviews and documentary!
Sure plenty of single engine planes have speedbrakes: F-16, F-86, T-6 Texan ii, etc haha
Mooney…
Sailing doodles to the flying doodles. You must never get bored.
Wow that's an awesome aircraft along with an incredible video like always. The Cessna TTX is pretty much the Shelby Mustang GT500 of the aviation industry. A twin-turbo engine and based on what you're describing the performance is, it is definitely the sports car of Cessna.
Bobby, I have watched your sailing channel as well as your flying channel and it just hit me that you’re the same person for both!😂😂
I went to their site. You have to call them to get the prices on their aircraft. They sell cars, all the pictures you need to see, but the airplanes I liked have no photos!
My favorite certified single for metropolitan airport operations. The Mooney is a beast too, but I’m not sure the Mooney has twin carbon fiber wing spars capable of g-locking the pilot.
Definitely a nice plane. Like others have said "Call for Price" translates to "Beyond my Reach". I'll hold on to my 172N for now.
Having owned one I agree the GFC 700 is super good.
Nice video and very nice plane. Thanks for sharing Bob. Thanks Darrell as well.
Great Review of the TTx. Well done
Great video! I could see this aircraft as an alternative to upgrading to a Vision Jet. Patrick from Albuquerque
Another great video of an airplane that's hard to find quality video of on KZhead. I'm curious about the rudder hold vs having a yaw damper. Any idea why Lancair originally designed it with the rudder hold other than cost? To have a hot rod like this with no yaw damper is curious to me. Also, for those complaining about not stating a price, you can find the average price of these aircraft with one Google search. And by the way, this airplane sold two months after this video was posted.
Nice airplane, cool video! I like that view from under the tail. Not a lot of these plane on my side of the Atlantic (Europe), too bad, I'd really like to try one. Thanks !
There are a handful. Where are you? I have some good friends that own a maintenance shop specifically for this type about an hour north of Frankfurt. Feel free to email me if you want more info. I'm sure I could arrange a flight dtaylor@vanbortel.com
Annnnnnd another airplane that I will never own. But seriously, I enjoyed the ride. I'm surprised that a plane capable of that speed and altitude has fixed gear. Keep them coming!! If y'all cruise to Alaska, you could do a hell of a series about bush planes, their pilots, and the spectacular scenery. Plus you'll make the other half happy. One of them double wins!! Just saying.
I’ve owned a 400 for 5 years... I bought from van Bortel and I’m currently buying a TTX from them now... I highly recommend the 400/TTX and buying from Van Bortel. Blake is a great salesman, Jeff is a great mechanic, George is a great owner and Darryl is extremely knowledgeable!!! Don’t buy a bonanza over this plane. My mission is 900 miles and I make it with a headwind nonstop...
Love to see that new Rolls Royce turbin , it would be way lighter than the piston version but the problem with that swap you need to build the plane around the fuel tanks
Awesome Airplane...out of my price range. Love to fly one someday. Cheers.
Great video,,, makes me want one!
Nice job Bob!
What an awesome alternative to a Cirrus...!
Great aeroplane video 👍🏻 love them 🛩🛬🛫
When I worked for Columbia this was an awesome plane, then Cessna bought this plane and killed it. They moved the build to Mexico and had instant problems. Two aircraft had wing de lamination. They had no clue how to build a carbon plane and it showed when they took over. They did everything wrong you could. Buy a Columbia 400 before you think of buying a Cessna version.
Can you source information for this?
Gorgeous aircraft! I wish Van Bortle would list their prices. Might be a "if you have to ask you can't afford it" thing I guess :o)
Not really! I know people who can afford to buy a FLEET of these *_cash._* One of them is my own cousin. He would never call one of these "call for price" places. People like him are very busy, and their time is very valuable. He is not going to waste an hour calling and chatting with someone, if he does not think the price is "in the ball park" of what he considers REASONABLE! And just FYI, people did not get wealthy by just _"paying anything a person asks for"_ (rollseyes). Just because someone has a ton of money does not mean they are willing to just THROW SOME OF IT OUT THE WINDOW, just for the heck of it!
Wow! I like the engine sound
I'm surprised it came in so slow. I was thinking approach speed would be around 75-80 knots. Then again, that stall example almost didn't happen. Very nice and stable.
MojoGrip Love your videos with your Sling. I own a 2008 Columbia 400 purchased from Van Bortel and at KPIA if you want a flight.
Great little plane! Like the Aston of the sky 😎
After watching the older aircraft on the channel, it’s cool to see one of these new, composite aircraft. Maybe Cessna & new aircraft manufacturers should really begin to work on getting the price down. If this thing was $90k-$100k it’d be a real winner. Idk 🤔 Great video nonetheless!
This G-2000 system looks awesome.
I love the HD quality video
Hi Bobby, don't mind my asking, how's your medical now, will you be able to fly again, as a pilot, soon..? here's wishing you all the best. Great aircraft video.
What did you think of flying with the bose standard headphones with the mic attachment? How was the quality say to a bose a20 or Zulu 3's?
My all time favorite single engine plane. Was sad when they shut down production.
and factory support shut down, so why even bother with this plane.
@@tropicthndr Not true. Factory support is alive and well. Plus, we have a whole team dedicated to the support of the airframe.
Great airplane but will struggle in the used market due to the end of production. No way around that.
@@bkrone2 Resale as well if one decides to sell it.
That's awesome!! Very nice avionics.
Great vid. I will surely look them up when I]m ready. I have been researching a few, Cirrus, Mooney, Diamonds and Colunbia's/Cessna's 300/350, 400 TTx
Great pilot, love the 240, want one ..
Beautiful plane. Would love to own it if I was in the market to buy a plane.
18:48 Pilot Handbook 101 Rule No.1 - Casually talk about death
I, too, can't deal with "call for price". Controller is full of those. If you're priced right for the market and the plane's condition, what are you afraid of? I will never call for price, be it car, plane, motorcycle, boat.
It might be close to inspection time and he has some offers to share with you, not always to much.
There is an offer currently. I think around $3.500 monthly with no down payment. BTW: Nice plane :-)
My dream airplane would merge the flying qualities and vernier controls of the TTx with the larger, more comfortable cabin, better visibility, higher useful load, and CAPS parachute of the Cirrus.
One year at Oshkosh, I took the full fuel weight and subtracted it from the useful load, there was enough for maybe pilot and one less than 170 lb passenger. I made the unpopular comment this was a nice 2 seater. This was Cessna's one of several corporate mistakes, giving more ammo to short sighted American executives that can only see from quarter to quarter, someone wanted a short cut and thinks they can buy one without giving it decades of incremental improvements to create a winner, like what Beech did to the King Air. No changing names is just not good enough.A big company with many to share the blame, did they learn anything? I doubt it.
Wow! beautiful aircraft, will it be fitted with a BRS parachute?
Bought a Corvallis from VanBortel after owning two SR22's, Awesome People at VanBortal.. Darryl and team are top notch..
Thank you!
N43TT@@darryltaylor4157
I really do wish Van Bortel would list the sale price of their aircraft, it was annoying having to call each time and ask; “How Much”!!!
They often do and. Quick phone call will settle it
This is my favourite review of these things. I'm more impressed than I expected!
Absolutely love this plane, wish it had more seats
Wish I had more money... !.!.! ( :
A T-lever throttle quadrant and optional diesel power-plant with full fadec (like Diamond offers), would have been a very nice touch and possibly saved this model, imho.
Nice airplane, well worth whatever they wanted for it. Own opinion, this'd also be a good transition from a Cirrus.
My cfi has a columbia, I got to sit inside it once and it was really high tech, just like the video says
Who is your CFI? I know a few guys that own one.
I bought 4 planes from VanBortel. Including my TTx. Hands down-best place to buy an aircraft. Darryl is awesome. George is awesome. Blake is awesome.
Thank you!
I've wanted one of these ever since I discovered Cessna selling them about 15 years ago. Were I financially able this would be my plane.
Do you think this aircraft is approachable for low-time pilots? I don't want to jump the gun on getting an aircraft that is too much for me but I also don't want to outgrow an aircraft in 6 months and wish I bought something like this from the getgo. This has all the performance characteristics I'm looking for an is much more stable than a cirrus. Thoughts?
Nice Job,,,,,And Great Airplane !!!
Excelent video! Where did you buy the adapter for the bose?
Uflymike.com
In my opinion, It’s much better and more beautiful than the cirrus
20:10 - I can see my house from here :)
With plane pricing info all over the internet, I don't understand how anyone could omit this data and think that the lack thereof is not a red flag....
I bought 2 last year! One for each leg of my trips!😂😂
For that price go Laneair ES. Faster and less expensive.
The IV-P is pressurized, too! And a bit faster
@@lizzsszzy7800Strictly a kit plane or did Lance build some in Oregon?
Strictly a kit plane or did Lance build some in Oregon?
The design's production came to an end in February 2018. Sales of the model had been poor, with only 23 examples sold in 2017, compared to its main competitor, the Cirrus SR22, which sold 309 models that same year. For between $300K-400K your money could be better spent elsewhere....nice but very pricy
Where does synthetic vision get it's input? Are there sending units on the runway?
Great plane!, excellent video!
You can tell he’s a salesman😊
Hey, how do you record your speed and direction on the camera looking out the front window???
I think I saw one of these near Alliance/TMS the other day. It was haulin ASS!
1:52 ''wings to 26 g's'' , I would assume that means the wings are not breaking off of the fuselage as well, at that pressure? Sounds pretty bullet proof, so in other words it would be pretty difficult for this plane to come apart (at least the wings) if inadvertently over-speeded? Sounds pretty bullet proof, how is the recovery in a flat spin? I realize this was probably sold a couple years ago, still , would like to know though.
