How A Striker Who Refused To Dribble Outscored EVERYONE (Literally)
Hugo Sanchez was such an excellent striker with such incredible aim and touch, that he didn’t need to be fast nor did he even need to dribble the ball, because all he truly needed to score was a literally a single touch. So dominant and efficient, that it only took that one moment of contact with the ball for him to lead la liga in scoring for nearly 5 consecutive seasons in a row. Because if you combine the Pichichi Trophies of Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Karim Benzema, and Samuel Eto’, you still won’t surpass the number of goal scoring awards that Hugo Sanchez had.
But as legendary as he was, it’s a shame just how criminally underrated the man is. Because perhaps, had he been European or maybe even South American, his name would be coming up non stop in goal scoring conversation simply out of pure respect. But despite growing up all the way in Mexico City, Hugo Sanchez was destined to be a goal scoring artist.

The only reason they never wanted to openly accept he was the best player in the world is bcuz he's Mexican (bcuz Mexicans are proud of their Aztec n indigenous past n their accomplishments, including their being much more cleaner ppl than Europeans..lol) Reason why European teams always side more with Argentina's players who's ppl tend to say they descend from the Europeans.. (So who do you think Europeans are going to favor more??) Even the elites in Mexican political power n Mexico's soccer think this way n make policy to justify their racist way of thinking.. To prove it, less than a year ago, they had an 8/3 rule where they allowed each team have more foreigners than Mexican players in their starting 11 lineup.. Hugo Sánchez is a Mexican football legend. No Mexican player has ever come close to what he could do on the top club stage. He left more to be desired on the international football stage but 99% of his teammates didn't train in Europe so it was hard for them to utilize him at his best. He's now a sports analyst for ESPN deportes and that alongside his underwhelming coaching career have kinda made people forget what a brilliant footballer he was for his time. Real Mexican fans of the sport still appreciate him and what he did for Mexican footballers going overseas.
In terms of goal scoring no Mexican comes close to what he did in Europe, in terms of achievements Rafa Marquez is right around the corner, however there’s no doubt Hugo is still the best Mexico has produced
A #9 like Sanchez needs equally good midfielders to succeed. That’s why he was lethal in his club but average in his national team, unfortunately.

Well said!
Nobody has ever landed a bicycle kick gol like Hugo's multiple bicycle kick goals. He is the absolute king at it.
My dad, father-in-law and some of my friends’ dads were in the same Youth team as Sánchez. All of them said that Sánchez was always the last one to leave the pitch. He’d stay behind after everyone was gone and he’d practice his finishing. Also, I heard that he would learn the names of his opponents’ wives and girlfriends before each game and whisper sh*t in their ears to mess with them. Legend.

You need to make more videos about him and put them on KZhead.
Issue for Hugo Sanchez in México is that he was a pretty huge dickhead to almost everyone and isn't well liked by people from his generation for that reason. His arrogance was out of this world and in Mexico arrogance is one of the most disliked traits. He was also blamed for some bad Mexican teams, and his lack of individual success in those teams. WSo essentially, he was never beloved in Mexico, and I think that's the main reason he is underrated even somewhat forgotten. If your own country doesn't love you...
If you talk to fans of futbol from that generation in Mexico you'll find they are all much, much bigger fans of Pelé than they are Hugo Sanchez.

@@RaymarFootball*please make video about Emilio Butragueño and La Quinta del Buitre* one of the most underrated Real Madrid squad of all time
Big men are usually the ones who thrive on tap ins. Van Nilstlelrooy comes to mind. These players used their bodies to shield the ball, their strength to shove defenders away, and their heads to sky over their defenders.
Zidane played similar to Van nistelrooy. But the difference is Van nistelrooy is better in scoring goals.

@@Rubrasileiro he is one of the most over rated midfielders of all time. His vision is poor . His skills are very nice to look at but pretty useless can't even get past a defender. The only thing he is good is free kicks. Beckham, Ballack , Pirlo and Rivaldo is better than Zidane in free kick.
Haaland the tap in merchant for example
Not surprised he was dominant in the air at 174 metres tall 😯 in all seriousness though, a truly great goal scorer!
Yeah, that cracked me up, too. It would actually be basically impossible to get your head down to meet the ball at that height.
I scrolled through comments until I found someone else who caught that 😂
In the end, it comes down to execution. How many times have we seen great dribbling display just to miss the goal. The man is a legend.
In Mexico we called him "El Niño de Oro" (The Golden Boy), and also "Hugol". I was made a Real Madrid Fan because of Hugo back in 1985 when I was 17. Enjoyed every moment watching Hugol. There was a Joke back then, where the Goal Keeper from the opposing team was scolding the player barrier when Hugo was going to shoot a free kick because they were facing the goal instead of Hugo. "Turn around" he would tell them. Then they told him: "No, we'll miss Hugo's Goal" :) Greatest Mexican Legend Hugo Sanchez.
Forget about Sanchez, anybody who cries about "tap-ins" have never played football or at least in a decent level. Even in tournaments albeit not at the same level of course, I have seen players including me at occasions have struggled to score these "one touch" goals but have scored worldies after a one or two touch from distance or even after some dribbling at occasions. We always appreciated the finishers including being happy when we do it, and understand how important, useful and tricky it is.
He’s the perfect striker for modern football, one touch finish monster
he would be worth easy 200 mil in todays game
38/45 goals with single touch is insane record! anyway, Hugo Sanchez was the perfect choices for La Quinta del Buitre of Real Madrid, Which dominated spanish football in the 80's
Great video as a Mexican I didn't know all this - Hugo is criminally underrated
He's been done dirty by the Mexican media. The guy was a world class striker of the highest caliber. Very few have had better years than Hugo's peak, and they're all much more recent. In his prime, he was next to no one. Shame Mexico's corruption scandal prohibited them from attending the 90 WC, he was in the best form of his life, literally the most lethal striker in the world at the time, proven at the highest level, and could have made a difference.
This guy is so underrated in Mexico, while in Europe they sing songs about him, people see him and make way, applaud him, ovations... truly nobody is a prophet in their own land... killer on the pitch... he was a beast!
Mexicans were too poor to see him play in Europe, plus Mexico's elites hate this man for being the best to ever play the game back then.. He is a strict Nationalist, like today's Mexican president AMLO, n Trump but of soccer.. He was the Jesus Christ of soccer, if you look at his gol scores, most seem impossible..lol
Despite his well earned merits as a striker, he had some attitudes when he came back fro Spain. Like talking in a Spanish acent and lingo. This didn't sit well with the mexican audience.

Tap in merchant. Always shows how little people really understand the game when they use that phrase. Anyone can immediately appreciate someone taking on defenders with their close control. Or marvel at a defense splitting pass. But appreciation for a player's ability to read the game? The ability to outwit defenders with off ball movement? The timing to arrive at the right spot to finish the play. And most importantly the technique and composure to finish the chance when it arrives. Alot goes into to being a first rank goal scorer that we can't immediately see.
Hugo is the best center forward ever. No one like him. Messi knows how to dribble and has a marvelous touch with his left foot so he is a great scorer. Ronaldo is pure power and speed and a great head scorer, but Hugo was all of that combined plus the most exciting and espectacular and athletic player than those two. He didn’t gave a team like Barcelona or areal Madrid with the players that Messi and Ronaldo enjoyed respectively. Yet, he won a lot of trophies and it took a long time for Messi and Ronaldo to surpass his scoring tally.
Hugo was not close to the athlete Cristiano was not near as good technically as Messi. Even during his own time period Romario was better, but he didn’t play in Europe as long to build the statistics
