  • I feel like a lot of the mothers reaction could have been prevented by just one of the officers taking her to the side, as soon as she got there, to explain to her that her daughter is deceased and how they needed to handle the crime scene in order to find out what happened. A little empathy goes a long way. Imagine finding out your kid has been in an accident and everyone who knows anything about it just stares at you in silence or ignores you. Any parent would have been freaking out in that situation.

  • It was incredibly cruel to not pull the mother aside, say “ma’am I am so sorry but your child is no longer with us.” Instead they left her there guessing, wondering what happened and then they just randomly say “she is no longer with us”. • I read a great comment on the original video, from a former LEO. He said that with the Mother, their standard solution for that type of issue would be to give her a task so that she feels like shes in the know, and that shes helping. So have her write down names and numbers of everyone her daughter knows. Just anything to keep her mind occupied and let her feel like shes helping. And that wouldve been a great way to handle things and help that poor Woman through this situation.

I understand they can’t share information about the investigation, etc but they could have said something like “she’s no longer with us, I’m so sorry, I can’t give you anymore answers until the investigation is complete”. But giving her the equivalent of the silent treatment is just going to make her go even harder. Let’s have some compassion for her on the worst day of her life. ❤

  • As DV survivor, it means so much that Bruce continually says "Don't use Violence against Women/Child PERIOD". I swear almost every episode Bruce says similar messaging and I have to say that is so powerful and I really admire it. You would be amazed at the lawyers, who defend abusers and will actually engage in the same abusive behavior as their client (abuse by litigation, verbal harassment). My (female) lawyer and I had to make several motions to the court in order to stop the harassment as my abuser's lawyer was harassing both myself and my lawyer. She was flabbergasted. She had not experienced anything like it and I felt very guilty for bringing her into my hell but it was also validating to have someone else say "this is not right". I just really admire real individuals, who stand up for what is right and helps promote the message that any type of violence is not acceptable in a relationship. Period. Thank you Bruce! 🖤

    • Honestly, for having just found out her daughter was dead, murdered as she had to see the blood everywhere, and she had no idea what happened and wasn't being told anything b/c the investigation can't be jeopardized, I thought she held it together better than most. I expected her to completely freak-out, push officers aside and go inside the car. Remember how the uvalde mother who broke through the police line TWICE and was handcuffed because she was trying to get inside the school? This mother was also clear headed enough to ask about things the police actually needed to do in their investigation like running the serial number of the gun that was found in order to see who it was registered to. Actually, an officer should have taken the mom aside and explained that she would definitely be told everything and all her questions answered but this couldn't be done at the scene because doing so might end up jeopardizing holding the person responsible for what he/she did. THAT a mom would understand. I think the fact that they didn't physically remove her from the scene is probably a good indication that she wasn't freaking out nearly as much as other moms/parents have. I believe a parent freaking out would be aggressive. This mother seemed to be more assertive vs aggressive. Fuck. I think she held it together much better than I would have and I'm rarely assertive and never aggressive (except once and that's when I found out an adult had physically hurt my 8 yr old daughter (broken bones and an accusation of sex assault). I lost it. I didn't own a gun, but I tried to buy one from three places. None of the 3 managers at the 3 stores (2 pawn shops and 1 gun shop) would sell me a gun of any type. I am sure that it was obvious what my intentions were. Even now, almost 20 years later, I am still not sure I should be grateful for those 3 managers/supervisors recognizing that they shouldn't allow me to leave with any type of firearm. I still think the A-hole who hurt my daughter deserves a bullet right between his thighs. I can't even imagine if he'd have killed her.

I put an end to it when I (100 lb female) sent him on a 2 week stay at the ICU. Luckily, a friend of the family told him to not press charges on me or he would pay his team of lawyers to defend me in court. Bastard never touched mom or me again. But I still have PTSD. While I have picked some lousy guys, they've not been physically abusive. Still, took myself out of the dating pool because I don't need any drama in my life. Now it's me, my cat and dog. • There’s a typical way to act and there are complexities of several combinations that blunt emotions and /or logic to a certain influential percentage. Unfortunately or fortunately when a person has been through a series of tragedies in life that have resulted in perpetual loss they may do the opposite and be unusually calm and despondent. It really depends on someone’s personality and how their resiliency or lack thereof shines through in their emotional reactivity. Substances and recent experiences can effect this too. There’s not a true “well” I agree but accusing the police of covering up for someone is off the cuff regardless and may speak towards some ideological fringe or existing paranoia that is not born of the situation. I’ve seen wild reactions from seemingly level headed intelligent people in the midst of tragedy & emergency. I’ve also seen unusual willingness to take orders from those typically opposed to being ordered around. We as a society have an issue with the binary comparison of extremes and discounting that these are on opposite ends of a spectrum. Placing extremes next to each other as an either or without considering the middle causes error in accuracy

If that’s the case, it seems like she’d have good reason to be scared because he’s killed before, was released and continued to harass Montana and later able to run away and had help from others who could have also harmed her on his behalf. • I had to take Rules of Evidence twice. That’s why Habba pisses me off…. I value being smart. I sent your podcast to my law school mentees. My law school professor for Professional Responsibility had us watch a John Grisham movie and cite every violation (federal judge, FL teaching in MI). We came up with 2-5 pages. He accepted 16-31. You are that great and thank you for sharing. 👊🏿 I am white collar, I don’t pretend to know much beyond law school or the rare mediation 😅. You rock ✊🏿

  • I bet it wasn't Montana that the witness saw at the crime scene. It was Cindy, his mom. Here's my theory: Matthew followed Livye in his buddy's stolen truck. Matthew tells Montana that Livye is dead before actually killing her (the phone is in the truck with no blood on the phone or truck). Matthew kills Livye while Montana is telling Cindy about the message from Matthew. Montana doesn't want to go there cause she's scared of Matthew having been recently threatened and choked, but Matthew wouldn't shoot his mom, so Cindy goes in Montana's car. Matthew won't leave cause he's wasted drunk and too heavy for his mom to move.

  • The ppl under EWUs video are ....wow. the way they talked about this mom being like this... the cops dragged their feet with her, left unbearable lengthy periods of silence for this poor mom to stew in. They couldve been sympathetic from getgo and said "listen, we wanna get justice for u and ud daughter, let us do that without the pressure of having u here." The way the man in brown vest came and said. They could've sped up the process not wait half hour for that man to come. They handled it horribly....

But in reality they are doing an already stressful job, investigating the gruesome murder of a young lady, and there comes the mom screaming her head off.

Losing one's child is the most unnatural & heartbreaking thing we can go through as humans! I can tell you that that girl's mom wasn't thinking rationally at all! There is no rationale when it comes to the death of someone's child, no matter how old they are!

Mathew's escalating behavior was apparently acceptable to everyone who witnessed it. And apparently there was no way for Mathew to see that he could be happy if we was willing to do the work to make that happen.
