    • Women who ‘chose’ prostitution as in this interview are indeed rare. Even those who insist it’s OK- usually tell a different story once they’ve exited. Many are vulnerable, sexually abused as children or trafficked. This is a false narrative given in order to justify the unjustifiable.

    • I'd personally rather earn 25k and work outside of the sex industry, but I respect everyone's free will and choice. The morality of the sex industry is entirely arbitrary -- society has decided that selling your body for sex is immoral but selling your time/life or brawn for work, including slaving in the sanctioned workplace of an office cubicle, is perfectly fine and moral. These are socially constructed norms.

I liked listening to the owner-operator, he struck me as quite thorough in keeping his operation safe & none criminal, maintaining a good relationship with the police ( cheers to the police in that area). Lastly, l really found Louise to be refreshingly straight forward & honest, totally agree with her opinion of her work.. l have known for years that fortunately not all women workers in the sex trade are victims, a well known example decades ago being Xavieria Hollander. Also, found it positive to hear from Louise that more & more customers are regular type men.

    @robertbruce1887@robertbruce18875 ай бұрын
    • I agree with all you say, though it did cross my mind whether the `good relationship with the police' might involve a few brown envelopes! After all, it seems fairly clear that this would be defined as a brothel for the purposes of the Sexual Offences Act 1956, so one would have to ask why the owner is not being prosecuted.

  • I'm a software developer, and it's hard on my fingers, wrists, back and eyes. The clients are often a pain. Yet, working in a software company is a career I choose, along with its pros and cons, including working 80-hours weeks in years past, to pay my professional dues to my employer at the time. I'd find it odd if someone interviewing me starts out with the built-in skepticism of "she says she choose to work there" as if I lack agency. There is an implied premise in prefacing the statement with "she says..." Treating a sex worker as such in an interview does not give a neutral start to the interview. It feeds into the whole "rescue sex workers from themselves, because it strains credibility that anyone would choose this line of work" narrative that ends up harming sex workers more than helping them. Even so, this interview is likely to have done more good than harm ... so, thank you for that.

    • @@notwelcome2452 We give people close to 10 years for economic crimes like fraud, being caught manipulating stocks etc. And you want people who actually sell other human beings to get a slap on the wrist? It wouldn't remove such criminals altogether, and the problem will always be in the UK for example the women who have been born there, they are safe. Pretty much a guarantee that they haven't been essentially brainwashed from when they were children to infiltrate legal businesses for those criminals to get a cut sent back to their home country. But having a hard sentence, maybe not lifetime, but 10 years would make it dangerous for that abusive boyfriend who could be taking advantage of her being able to make more money than him in a short time. The ultimate goal should be for making it the safest environment for the seller and the customer. In a perfect world those would be the only two people involved just like regular sex is, but I can understand why it would feel safer for a woman to join a brothel. So instead by having it be completely legalized, regulated and unionized, you would get standards in place. And like we have seen in countries that have done this, sex crimes drops.

In Australia they legalised it years ago due to the shortage of women during gold rushes, so it is grudgingly accepted. There is still the moral stigma associated with it and there would be a lot of shame for someone to be found to have frequented these establishments. But the women and men are better protected for this, because it'll go on whether you allow it or not.

    • Yes I agree in some instances or situation about prostitution! It was not a crime or violation of secular or penal laws because it was a social problem and also for some notion of other sector of society like religions or churches they called it moral problems! I think the best way we can do in order to reduced or illiminate prostitution in our society was to give our female family members, our mothers, sisters, relatives and friends love, care and protection, advocacies of equality of all genders, respect and empowerement of our women as a productive members of our society, that can have equal opportunities of employment, job, carrer, productive roles as a human being equal to men. One good formula was to have a good & strong bond of family as a basic social unit of society!

BROTHEL LICENCE While the running of a brothel is illegal in the UK, in Queensland, an Australian state covering the continent’s northeast area, operating a brothel as a business is legal. But for a brothel to be a legalised trade, you will need a Brothel Licence.

I'd rather have less money and not be traumatised. And not feed into an industry that supports men viewing women as commodities. Louise admits herself that it's hard to make money as a woman, THAT is the real issue that needs to be addressed, not the legalisation of sex work. If there wasn't a financial disparity between men and women in society that leads women into this kind of work, there wouldn't be the supply to meet the demand. There is psychological impact in many jobs and many jobs cause excessive stress or leave people feeling used and exploited.Its all a matter of her having control and choice and if she decides its not health for her or too much then she can leave. She can also presumably refuse certain punters and certain requests.Its all about giving her as much choice and control as possible compared to someone who has been forced or cooerced or who has drug issues etc or feels they have very little other choices. At then ned of the day if it is going to be an option for women who want moeny and men who are prepared to pay is it not better to make it as safe as possible and give the women as much power and control over what they do and not the punters.
