Rabbi Rami Shapiro, Ph.D., has a reputation for being perhaps the most unorthodox rabbi you've ever met! Growing up, his mother thought he might be the Messiah, while his father was convinced he was a luftmensch (air head). Air head, indeed! He earned rabbinical ordination from Hebrew Union College in order to preach his ideas in synagogues, and a PhD in contemporary Judaism from Union Graduate School in order to teach his ideas in universities.
Along the way, he’s taken Bodhisattva vows in Zen Buddhism, become a 32° Mason in the Scottish Rite, been initiated into the Ramakrishna Order of Vedanta Hinduism, joined the Theosophical Society, published three dozen books, has had his poems included in prayer books and hymnals around the English speaking world, and has walked the 12 Steps of Overeaters Anonymous more times than he can count.
His award-winning bestselling books fall into three categories: Biblical translations that make the Bible say what he wishes it would say; spiritual explorations that make spirituality all about practice rather than feelings; and recovery that reveals the central addiction of all humans-playing God- and the way to free oneself from it: realize God is playing you.
Well known for his quality scholarship and sacred spirit, he served for 20 years as the founder of Miami’s Temple Beth Or, where he experimented with new forms of Jewish liturgy and practice, combining his experiences with Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism.
Rabbi Rami currently co-directs the One River Foundation (www.oneriverfoundation.org), is a contributing editor at Spirituality & Health magazine, where he writes the “Roadside Musings” column, and hosts the magazine’s “Spirituality & Health” podcasts (www.spiritualityhealth.com).

  • One of the biggest lessons I learned after my dark night of the soul which ended in an NDE was to love myself above everything and as love grows for me it grows for others and everything around me. We are all One!

  • I had to giggle at not liking the word “higher” power because it connotes judgment, yet preferring the word “greater” because it somehow doesn’t connote judgment (greater-lesser)? In my experience, higher refers to the energetic frequency at which something exists, not better than. But then again, I’m a science geek and the esteemed guest is not. Great conversation.

    @susansnyder2420@susansnyder2420Ай бұрын
    • Greater and higher are exactly the same. Liking one word but not the other is just because of the definition that we give them.

      @theundone777@theundone777Ай бұрын
    • @@joebenzzRight because higher tends to imply hierarchy which means something is lower, but greater just means bigger or the same thing expanded. At least that’s how I think of it and I’m sure that’s why he uses the terms that way.

  • In Sanskrit there's an essential concept often overlooked as conclusions can disguise possibilities. This concept is stated as " Achinta Beta Beta Tattva" which means One and Separate Simultaneously. The Supreme Personality of Godhead certainly orchestrates all the meaning in life and our souls are sparks of The Infinte Whole Divine Being created from the entirety of the combination of Infinite Love and Absolute Truth, adopting roles in The Divine Plan. Surrendering to The Supreme brings forth the knowing granted from Our Divine Source. No one can reveal Krishna. He reserves that Capability for Himself as He Sees Appropriate. May Loving Kindness create Harmonious Unity for All Beings.

  • @16:50 Montras are vibrational declarations... in the teachings of Christ conciousness from Paul Selig/Melchizideck, we use montras, so this is not just Jewish practice. When I speak the montras now I begin to vibrate, when I speak truth of who and what I am; how I serve; I vibrate. Montras are felt at a heart level and give power to the emotional aspects of the words in action as a vibrational tone. They envoke the true power of what we are in mind, body and soul. VERY powerful!

    • Beware of spelling and pronunciation mistakes, especially in sanskrit mantras. Intention is crucial, granted, but also those particular vowels and consonants are important as higher dimensional codes. You don't want to mess it up. And... I'm not trying to be facetious here, but... Let's just say there's plenty of both instructive and hysterically funny stories about people changing just one letter in just one word... 😉
