Horsepower vs Torque | Engine BHP, Nm, RPM | ICN Explains

Power vs Torque (BHP vs Nm) in Hindi - What are Power/BHP, Torque/Nm and RPM in an engine, what do they denote, and how these affect the vehicle's performance? We tell you in this video. We have also tried to explain the physics behind all of that with both some day-to-day examples and of cars. While Torque helps give the vehicle an initial push/acceleration, the power (bhp) helps in momentum and speeds. Though we have tried to explain it in detail, let us know in case we have missed out anything or you have any query.

  • amount of torque is how hard can a car pull amount of power is how frequently you can make that torque. think of it like car moves with several push back to back then torque is how hard is each of that push and power is how frequently i am re applying that push. now this push (torque) defines how much can a car pull like load or against the gravity on a incline which diesel cars can easily do with higher torque but the frequency with which that push is applied i.e. "power" keeps applying that force again and again and increases the speed further and further. now a combination of these two : pulling capacity and pulling frequency is used to achieve different characteristics in engine

  • Hi Mr. Yogi...Let me appreciate you first for putting all efforts to explaining it in a very lucid manner !!!This Torque & BHP has always been mysterious for me.If you could explain one more thing Why diesel engines loaded with heavier Torque than Petrol engines.One more thing I have also observed that BHP and torque don't remain in proportionate in P and D engine. Eg:-If u see the Ford's freestyle P engine having 96 BHP and 120 NM torque whereas D engine of Same car having 100 BHP but difference is huge in Torque i.e. 250 NM. Why this difference of torque is more compare to BHP. Thanks for your Knowledge sharing.

    @DevendraKumar-td7wn@DevendraKumar-td7wn4 жыл бұрын
    • I think diesel engines come with more torque because combustion of diesel is much more complex than petrol and hence it requires more force to compress the air and fuel to extract correct amount of energy out of it.

  • More torque = More weight the vehicle can carry and More Bhp = More top speed. That why tractors and trucks engine have more torque. But see ktm engines they can produce more Bhp but less Torque because they are meant for performance.

    • No..no..more torque is not directly related to top speed..actually it is bhp/ps and the power to weight ratio that decides the top speed of that whehicle.(and ofcourse the traction)
