The FOUNDATIONAL Hockey Mechanic of the Downhill Skating System is the CORKSCREW.
This is the base mechanic at Train 2.0 that serves as the foundation for all skating movements that an elite hockey player uses in-game. In this video, we take an in-depth look at the different levels and progressions of this movement, including aspects such as width, heel pressure, and shin angle, which are all crucial components of the Downhill Skating System. With examples from players like Matthew Barzal, Nathan Mackinnon, and Auston Matthews, Jason demonstrates drills that can be used by any hockey player to accelerate their development on the ice.
By building upon this base mechanic, players can learn to stack mechanics to become even more effective on the ice and conquer any game situation. The more tools you have in your toolbox, the higher your chances of success when faced with a complex situation in-game. While the Corkscrew may not seem like much on its own, using this mechanic will make a significant difference in your performance every time you hit the ice.
The Downhill Skating System is the next evolution of hockey training, developed through insights gained from watching thousands of hours of NHL hockey. By identifying and naming these movements, Jason was able to create a unified system for hockey instruction. Whether you're just learning how to skate for the first time or you're already in the NHL, Train 2.0 can help you achieve noticeable improvements in your mechanics in just a few weeks. We hope you enjoy this hockey mechanic tutorial.

  • I think one of the understated aspects of the corkscrew it that saves energy while maintaining your momentum. By keeping your feet on the ice and not having make lift your leg as with a cross-over you are able to conserve energy for when you actually have to execute a more explosive move. For older players such as myself this is huge.

  • Thank you so much men. I'm from a country where we don't have ice. I have played roller hockey all my life. This technique have helped me so much. It is like always having speed without trying and without striding. Combine with the regular stride it is like having an extra gear. Thank you man
