I am reminded of the old story of the family that owned Abraham Lincoln's original axe. They were showing it to the curator of the Smithsonian telling him how their family had the axe for 150 years and were still using it to this day. The curator noted that it was in excellent condition. They said yes, they took great care of it over the years and only had to replace the handle 4 times and the axe head twice.

@chrispark4310 Жыл бұрын
Growing up in San Antonio in a neighborhood near Ft. Sam Houston in the mid 60's, I would often see a black BMW 507 on one of the main thouroughfares near us. My dad and I were really intrigued by it, so one day when he and I were running an errand we found ourselves driving behind it, and decided to follow it home and check it out. Surprisingly it lived in the same neighborhood as us and the proud owner was a Master Sargeant who had brought it back from Germany when he was stationed there. I always thought it was one of the companies most beautiful designs. Very Italian.

As I watched this video, I realized the philosophical dilemma the restorers faced. Either you restore the original to the best possible condition you can achieve, or you recreate the car by replicating all the parts that are damaged beyond what can be perfectly restored. Since this appears to be the Concourse de Elegance, where they want perfection, I guess they went with the latter approach. And since it appears BMW was behind this very expensive project, I guess recapturing the beauty of the original vehicle was the primary goal. I did sort of expect a red car, but seeing that lower door frame shot, I guess the original color was white. What a very beautiful job by a great team of skilled craftsmen. Bravo.
@crabbyhayes10766 жыл бұрын
i agree completely, these idiots on here bitching about restoring a car don't seem to understand whats involved and/or accepted, if you replace a door, or skin a door, does that make the car a copy, or if you cut the middle out of a panel and weld a new piece of metal in, is that better than replacing the panel, i try very hard to stay away from the comments when watching all the videos on youtube but for some reason im just drawn to them. one of my personal needle in the eye is these assholes that constantly say patina, why the hell would you leave rust on a car, the rat rod crap, we didn't do that shit in the 40s and 50s, us poor boys made what ever we built or repaired look as best we could with what we had, it doesn't take much money to use wire brushes and steel wool pads and sandpaper and spray cans. most of our cars were just as spotless under neath as on top. to me patina, and rat rod, are different ways of saying lazy.

I couldn't stop at one comment so here is another. I must say again these guys are just marvellous. Seen 100's of restorations but the dedication I saw here has no equal.
I should send them my Pinto.
LOVE these detailed restoration videos! Thanks for sharing!!!
Amazing workmanship. Edle Verabeitung. Klasse!
The 507 is one hell of a beautiful car! Fascinating job
That is/was a beautiful old neighborhood. I am fairly new to the area, but have worked out at Ft. Sam a few times, and love the old buildings on base and along New Braunfels Ave and E Grayson.
@@SteakLover001 When heading to the UIW campus, I like driving through that neighborhood and seeing the old homes.

Incredible skill ....from an era when cars were beautiful and had a personality
Congratulations for the team BMW , it's just amazing!!
@ 40:16 "so yun nga ginawa...." from the backround noise, love the restoration and they left discreet areas of the car with the original paint.
Loved the car AND all of the other BMW's that I've never known existed. That ending though...,"Welcome Sondra...".... oh well, Pebble Beach. Beautiful restoration
Absolutely amazing to start off with something so bad and turn into not just better than new. But so stunningly beautiful it should be in a art gallery. Incredible. I must admit the sheet metal work was my favourite part. That is skill and talent.

One of the best restoration ever I have seen.... really great job Thx to everyone work on this project... and really very much thx to camera man
An impeccable restoration, a pleasure to look at how anyone can give a thumb down is beyond me .an absolute work of art and a pleasure to see craftsmen at their craft who are always on the level and square.
There Is always that one person who wants to put a chevy in it.
The thumbs down are because they replaced about everything on the car. So nothing original there anymore. I'd call it a kit car now. It didn't even have a motor or transmission. Nice work though, but can't call it his car. More like this car is like the car Elvis had.
I'm from Brazil, great job!
This is heaven. Archmaster level of craftsmanship. It was a pleasure to watch this content :)
I don't think Archmaster is an English word for what these gentlemen do but I do understand the intention of what you're trying to communicate to us. A truly more awesom group of professionals artisans has has never done this kind restoration work any better.
very profesional... i wish there is a team in Indonesia like this... salute...
Great restoration, love the design!
it s bad
Perfect craftsmanship!!! Detailed perfection!!!
Bravo.
i agree completely, these idiots on here bitching about restoring a car don't seem to understand whats involved and/or accepted, if you replace a door, or skin a door, does that make the car a copy, or if you cut the middle out of a panel and weld a new piece of metal in, is that better than replacing the panel, i try very hard to stay away from the comments when watching all the videos on youtube but for some reason im just drawn to them. one of my personal needle in the eye is these assholes that constantly say patina, why the hell would you leave rust on a car, the rat rod crap, we didn't do that shit in the 40s and 50s, us poor boys made what ever we built or repaired look as best we could with what we had, it doesn't take much money to use wire brushes and steel wool pads and sandpaper and spray cans. most of our cars were just as spotless under neath as on top. to me patina, and rat rod, are different ways of saying lazy.
Yes it was originally white. Women kept kissing the car and leaving red lipstick marks.
Great job and I love the way they did it good worked
Beautiful beautiful car. I wish I could restore a car to this level. Craftsman at there finest. Well done everyone.
Great 45 mins of viewing, when i am on lockdown for the corona Virus. Please produce more clips like this.
You mean the vaccine scam?
*It takes a lot of skill and experience to transform flat sheets into pieces with so many curves and shapes, this can only be done with good machines and a lot of know-how. My congratulations for the video. Angel*
Not sure it's a restoration when it comes out better than factory. :D WOW they did an amazing job. Awesome build
Improvement Restoration Modification. That is critical, because, every factory always cuts corners in order to save money and make higher profits. Many times factories cut horrifically despicable corners to save money.
Technically, they did restore the car. Then they upgraded it.
Its more than restoration, its a art i think
That is what the word restoration means...to bring back to original or better condition. Doesn't matter if it is a car, piece of furniture or art work.
great produccion, thanks 4 share!
I thought it was beautiful even before you restored it. The finished work is breathtaking.
Gosto de restaurações, é uma verdadeira arte!!!!!!
Artsy video and a great deal of painstaking work. Would like to have seen details of the interior restoration, what went into priming, painting and final touches. Finally, a color graphic of what was replaced vs what was original.
They replaced everything, basically destroying history.
Absolute beauty!!!
Splendide !!! Bravo.
Masterpiece, glorious restoration, how lucky Elvis to drive this legendary machine, thank u BMW
All of the parts off Elvis's car were sold as parts off Elvis's car, then the new car was sold as Elvis's car. Nice hustle.
what do you think paid for the rebuild they auctioned of all the bits
Just this beauty ...even if i was not able to do a proper restore ... Would just wash and clean ... Then move her to my living room and just look at her ... Imagine her days of glory... When not a wrinkle marked her perfection ... But who has the means to travel her back in time ... he will be so blessed and rewarded ..! Congrats guys- the clip just starts but we Greek say you are already half way !(Starting is half of everything ) my respect for the hard task you are committed to !

Trabalho maravilhoso!
After seeing the video, I take it that this vehicle is part of the BMW collection. It’s in good hands !
Totally remanufactured and handcrafted to precision perfection. This is not just a restoration - it is an Exaltation of the Marque beyond normal production spec's. Crazy German's.
It's not crazy...I can do things properly or sloppily. We Germans prefer to do things properly. That's why we build the best cars and motorbikes in the past and today and not the Americans or anyone else.
@@HBertacco wow, that's a lot of bullshit you're stacking right there.
@@jamesmiller210 if i were an american, i would probably see it that way too. what exactly is bullshit about my statement?
@H. Bertacco, do things properly? You mean like the way the Germans took care of the Jews?
@@jamesmiller210 very intelligent answer and so appropriate to the topic....
an old BMW made new by BMW with all original BMW parts and craftsmen through and through would still be a 507...of course with an added history of Elvis and time....glorious!
Original BMW parts???? The engine is a chevy. They couldn't get the BMW 3.2 that Elvis had put in after he bought the car....used. Every body was reworked by hand and vast parts hand made. Very from BMW parts.
Surprisingly, it was not possible to find the engine that had been installed specially for Elvis. So, instead of the 150 hp 3.2-litre V8 lightweight engine from Bavaria, they used a large-volume engine from Chevrolet.@@crazyheadgarage2599 www.bmw.com/en/automotive-life/bmw507-elvis.html
@@crazyheadgarage2599 Yea doesn't look chevy to me either. That's why I looked it up. I was so surprised the King had a BMW, I mean the guy known for Caddys had a BMW.
What a nice profession you all have. Thanks for this video.
It's a ton of long, hard hours, frustration, back breaking hard work requiring seemingly infinite patience too. Definitely not for everybody.
Excellent work. Given the intact state of the vehicle pre-restoration, a complete restore for such group of fully-equipped experts would not be too difficult. The BMW 507 is a rare beauty.
…‘intact state‘…? really…? The chassis had been cut out in the engine section to accomodate a V8-Chevy-engine that never should have been there. I‘d say the chassis was quite a mess.
What a great job guys ❤️
Vielen Dank. Unglaublich schöne Arbeit. Wahrlich aus MEISTERS Hand
The most quiet restoration i have ever seen ! In USA garages you hear loud voices-shouts etc although they show more detals about chrome work-dashboard-wheels etc than here.
Americans are just generally loud and obtrusive, but are getting somewhat subdued now that they are a third world country. United they are absolutely not.
@@FondelMikeRotch what an ignorant comment lol.
